11. Dark Souls III Road of SacrificesUpdate notes

Head down the road, and you will quickly face a new enemy, Corvian. Try to rush it, as it will begin sprouting wings. They become much faster and aggressive once all four wings have grown. Continue down the path and turn left when you see the caravan to find an alcove with another Corvian inside. Kill it then collect a Shriving Stone.

Back at the caravans, there will be a corpse with a Soul of an Unknown Traveler on it. Across from the caravans is an opening. Walk into it to find another Corvian, and then face out from the opening to the left. There will be two more Corvian enemies, as well as a Corvian Storyteller to their left in another opening.

Use your bow to lure the two Corvians over. If they sprout their wings, they will race over and attack, but you should be able to block it easily. Once both are dead, head to the other opening and rush in to kill the mage. Be careful not to get caught in its poison cloud as you attack.

NG++ Look over the ledge to the left of where the Storyteller was to see a ledge below. Drop down to it and pick up the Chloranthy Ring+2 (Checklist Ring 95/107) before dropping down again

Follow the path behind the mage, and at the end, drop down. Before going under the bridge, follow a path around to the left to find a corpse with a Brigand Axe. Head down the slope here. and you will be attacked by Unkindled Butcher. When she is dead, she will give you the Butcher’s Knife. Continue along the path to collect the Brigand Set, and at the end of the path, the Brigand Twindaggers.

Return to the bridge, and pass under it to take an upwards path on your left. Cross the bridge to find two Corvians. One will be playing dead, and once both are dead, you can collect a Titanite Shard.

Back on the main path, you will see another bridge ahead. Waiting on the bridge is a Corvian with three more waiting behind it, as well as a mage overlooking them all from a hill. How you approach is up to you. You can either rush and take them out quickly one by on, or use your bow to lure the first four over then deal with the mage.

When they are all dead, collect an Ember from beside the mage, and go back to the start of the bridge.

Facing the archway, look down on the right of the bridge to see an area you can drop to. Do so and follow the path around to a cave with two Starved Hounds inside. Kill them both and loot the two corpses here to collect the Braille Divine Tome of Carim and Morne’s Ring (Checklist Ring 11/107).

Follow the path up to find a final Corvian. This one has Red Eyes but is no tougher than the others, and the same tactics apply. Drop down to where the other enemies were, and head into the archway and down some stairs to find a bonfire and two NPCs.

Speak to Anri of Astora and Horace the Hushed, exhaust Anri’s dialogue, and then speak to Horace. He will give you the Blue Sentinel’s Sigil, unlocking:

Rest at the bonfire and travel to Firelink Shrine. Visit Irina and hand her the Tome of Carim you just found to unlock more Miracles, giving you Med Heal, Tears of Denial, and Force for 14,500 souls (Checklist Miracles 5-7/35). It is recommended you buy these as soon as you can to progress Irina’s questline. Speak to Irina again and select Purchase Item to buy the Saint’s Ring for 300 souls (Checklist Ring 12/107).

Next, look for a new NPC. She should be near the bonfire. This is Sirris of the Sunless Realms. Speak to her until she repeats herself. That is all we can do for now. With that all done, rest at the bonfire, and travel to the Halfway Fortress. The next area is extremely easy to get lost in, but I will attempt to direct you as best I can.

Head down the slope, and follow it as it curves around. You will face some new enemies, Lycanthrope Hunters. As you can see, they carry large branches that they will use to run up and thrust like a spear. These can easily be blocked and countered.

Keep going down the slope to the bottom where three more Hunters are waiting. Kill the lot of them and ignore the water for now. Go right, and you will see another Hunter kneeling over a corpse with a Starved Hound. Take them out however you wish and collect a Titanite Shard.

Follow the right wall around back to land where you will find three Poisonhorn Bugs. They should die in about two hits, but make it quick as they can poison you. Move up when they are dead, and on your right will be a Lycanthrope sitting down. These guys can hit hard but aren’t too difficult to avoid. Keep an eye on your left where two more Poisonhorn Bugs should be approaching you. Try keep away from them until the first enemy is dead, and then take them out.

Further ahead, you will see a doorway. To its left are another Poisonhorn Bug and a Lycanthrope hiding behind the tree. Kill them both and enter the door.

Look left through another door, and you will see a Black Knight. Head in to take him on. The Black Knight's attacks are heavy and will drain your stamina quickly, but it rarely seems to combo beyond emptying your stamina bar. Try to stick to its shield side to force it to use the shield to attack. This will give you a good opportunity to get behind it for a critical attack.

Once the Knight is dead, go out to the ledge on the right, and follow it to the end to pick up the Sellsword Set. Head back down to the path the Black Knight was guarding. As you make your way down, you can get the Sellsword Twinblades on your right, and straight ahead, you will find the Farron Coal. Now that you have the coal, backtrack to the bottom of the slope where you first entered.

Follow the left wall along a path with more Poisonhorn Bugs. Kill them and collect a Titanite Shard along the rocks. Continue until the path goes down and curves around. You will see an area with a large group of Poisonhorn Bugs waiting. Use your bow to pick them off safely and then collect another Titanite Shard.

Follow the wall on your left, but skip the path with the Hunters down it for now. Instead, keep going until you find a large archway. There will be a bunch of Hunters here as well as a Starved Hound, so carefully deal with them, and then collect a Fading Soul from a corpse. Next, search among the trees in the middle area (be careful as some Hunters may still be around) to find a Twin Dragon Greatshield. Then head through the opening, and at the top of the hill, turn right to find your next bonfire.

Head back out of the opening and along the water’s edge. It’s time to explore the swamp. In the swamp waters, you will no doubt have noticed the Great Crab and regular sized Lesser Crab enemies walking about.

Head out into the left side of the swamp to take on the first Great Crab. The first thing to know is these guys can hit hard, but your shield, if it has 100% absorption, should be able to take all of them on (I’m using the Silver Eagle Kite Shield for reference). Take the attacks on the chin and bide your time. Wait until the Giant Crab either performs a slam attack with its body or not. When it does, you can safely get a hit or two in. Another attack to watch for is when it sprays water at you. You can defend this easily, but the water spit will blanket you and slow you down for a little while. The spray, though, is easily avoided, and once you have moved to the side, you can get another couple hits in before going back on the defensive.

Once you kill your first Giant Crab, you will get the Great Swamp Ring (Checklist Ring 13/107). Use your bow to shoot the other Great Crab. Do not approach it. Once it reaches you, repeat the same process as the first Great Crab.

Once both are dead, head out into the middle of the swamp. If you have an active Ember, you will be invaded by Yellowfinger Heysel. This Dark Spirit can be a bit tough as they use powerful Sorcery spells and can parry you. Give yourself a medium amount of distance, and when they go to cast a spell, roll out to the side and get behind them to deal some damage. Try to keep up this pattern until they are defeated. Once you kill them, you will get the Heysel Pick and Xanthous Crown.

Now that the way is clear, you can explore the water safely. Head up the back where the second Great Crab was, and you can find the Conjurator Set and the Great Swamp Pyromancy Tome. Throughout the rest of the swamp, you will also find Purple Moss Clumps. Green Blossoms, Grass Crest Shield, and the Fallen Knight Set.

NG+ In the water near the Grass Crest Shield after killing the first Great Crab, you can find the Lingering Dragoncrest Ring+1 (Checklist Ring 75/107)

When you get the Fallen Knight set, go up onto land, and you will see an enemy, the Unkindled Watchdog ahead on some steps. Shoot him with your bow to lure him over. This guy is pretty damn fast considering his weapon, but he leaves himself open very often. Be patient and attack when an opening presents itself, and he will go down quickly. Once dead, you will get the Great Club. Over to the left, you will also be able to find a Large Soul of an Unknown Traveler.

Head back to the bonfire now and rest if you need to. If you are still Embered, head towards the building near you, and then go left where you should find a purple summon sign. Use this if you'd like to summon Holy Knight Hodrick for a second round. This version, though, is fairly tough compared to the first one. Try to deal the most of your damage when he is two-handing his weapon. While he has his shield on, he can parry you, and it is possible for him to kill you in one blow this way. Hodrick also has the same healing Miracle as last time, so keep an eye on that if he uses it. Hordrick can also be prone to using his Estus Flasks often. Take these opportunities to hit him with everything you have. Once dead, you will get 1,100 souls for the effort.

Around the other side of the building, collect a Soul of an Undead Traveler, and ahead of you, a Lycanthrope will come running. Take it down and head towards the fire. On the right will be another Lycanthrope sleeping, so get the drop on it, and try to kill it before it poses a problem.

With the enemies dead, grab the Ember from the corpse, and then head down into the ditch. Kill the Hunters if they drop down, and then collect an Estus Shard. Return once more to the bonfire to rest. Before continuing, make sure you have at least 10 in Intelligence.

Head over to the building once more, but this time, head inside through a broken wall. Kill the Sage's Prentice inside and watch for the Sage's Devout that will attack with Sorceries from above but likely drop down too. Once everything is dead, look in the alcove on the right to get a Heretic’s Staff.

Head up the stairs and over a bridge. In the next room will be a Prentice with a spear. Kill it and then go through the left door, being careful not to fall down, and follow the path up some stairs and into a door on your right where you can find Orbeck of Vinheim. Speak with him and ask to learn Sorceries. Agree to give him scrolls. If you have 10 Intelligence, he will leave for Firelink.

Head around to the other side of the upper area to find a broken staircase with two Blue Bug Pellets. You can stay up top with your bow and take out the enemies slowly or drop in and fight them quickly. Whichever you decide, once they are all dead, heal up.

If you are Embered and have not harmed Irina of Carim, there will be a summon sign behind a pillar in this room to summon Eygon. Do so and equip your best magic defence shield (likely the Blue Wooden Shield). Then head through the door at the end and up the hill to fight your next boss.

Crystal Sage

This is an easy enough fight when you are alone, so having Eygon by your side will make it a cakewalk. To point out the obvious, avoid the floating purple crystals the Sage fires at you. Even with your shield, these will hurt, so it’s best to just avoid them completely. Get close, and hit the Sage with everything you can. The Sage has really low defence, so your attacks will do a good amount of damage. In the first phase, the Crystal Sage will teleport back and forth around the arena. Just chase them down and hit them until they change places.

Once you reach the second phase, the Crystal Sage will multiply itself. This can get dangerous as the copies will launch Soul Spear attacks towards you. Try to watch the closest visible one to you and dodge it at the last second. Hopefully, it will help you avoid the rest of them as well. To find the real Sage, simply look for the copy with a purple glowing orb. The rest will be blue and continue to attack.

Once dead, you will get 6,600 souls, the Soul of a Crystal Sage, and unlock:

Light your new bonfire and head back to Firelink Shrine.

First, visit Ludleth, and have him transpose the Crystal Sage Soul into the spell Crystal Hail for (Checklist Sorcery 5/34). Next, head to Blacksmith Andre to hand over the Farron Coal and Estus Shard to give Andre more Infusion options.

Next, visit Orbeck who sits across from Cornyx to buy his batch of new spells. You should be able to get Great Soul Arrow, Great Heavy Soul Arrow, Farron Dart, Soul Greatsword, Farron Flashsword, Spook, and Aural Decoy for a total of 19,500 souls giving you (Checklist Sorceries 6-12).

Head over now to Cornyx and give him the Great Swamp Pyromancy Tome. This will unlock four more spells for you to buy. You can now purchase Fire Orb, Bursting Fireball, Poison Mist, and Profuse Sweat for 12,000 souls giving you (Checklist Pyromancies 5-8/27).

Return to the Crystal Sage bonfire, and look for a path leading up next to it. As you follow the path, look down to the left, and you will see a Crystal Lizard below you. Drop down and kill it to receive a piece of Twinkling Titanite.

Drop down again, and there will be a second Crystal Lizard. This one also gives you Twinkling Titanite. At the fork, take the path leading up and around. You will see two Manservants below you and an Evangelist. You can use arrows on the Manservants if you wish and then drop down and take care of the Evangelist.

Once they are all dead, loot the corpse behind the Evangelist for the Herald Set, and move across the nearby bridge to find your next bonfire and technically, the next area.
