2. Day of the Tentacle Remastered General hints and tips

As mentioned on the prior page, this game is a pretty straight forward Point & Click game. If you're familiar with classic Lucas Arts games you know you basically need to pick up every item possible, and attempt to use all items together or with other interactable objects/characters in order to progress the storyline. If at any time you can't find an item or something to interact with, use the Object Highlight option cn_up and/or the Snap Cursor to Hotspot option cn_RS. This will highlight or snap you to all interactable items on screen.

There are a couple of instances in this game where you will need to properly time interacting with another item/character/object. I will highlight these timing-required interactions when necessary.

I will be writing this walkthrough using the remastered rendering (game can be played in both the original or remastered rendering), with verb setting options at "Auto" (I believe this is the default). The remastered mode gives you a choice of commands when pressing cn_X on an item/object/character, where original mode requires you to select the proper command. Since multiple command options are possible, I'll be using the following system to specify what needs to happen.

Commands needed will be written in Bold (i.e. "Use", "Talk to", "Open"), and items/objects you interact with are written in Italics (i.e. "chattering teeth", "soggy hamster", "Weird Ed"). "Walk to" is always defaulted when using cn_A, and, since you'll be walking throughout the mansion the majority of the time, you don't need to select "Walk to" before selecting location. Just push cn_A.

There are 2 ways to give items to another character; "Fast Flush" and placing item in Chron-O-John. Fast Flush is done by opening your inventory cn_Y (or pressing the > symbol at bottom left of screen), selecting item, and then selecting character you wish to give item to. Fast Flush is the most efficient way to share items with another character.

While there are 28 missable achievements in this game and 1 buggy achievement, I want to highlight a few missable achievements for you to be aware of.

Mental Patience

Play the whole game without skipping a cutscene

This achievement can be missed if you skip any cutscene while playing the game. Skipping a cutscene happens ONLY when holding down cn_B. You can use cn_A to skip to next dialog as that does NOT negate this achievement.

You must use the Fast Flush option to earn this achievement as the other way to flush items, placing item in Chron-O-John and picking item up with other character, does not work. As stated above, Fast Flush is done by opening your inventory cn_Y (or pressing > symbol at bottom left of screen), selecting item, and then selecting character you wish to give item to.

These next two achievements are obtained by playing a separate game-within-a-game, Maniac Mansion. While this game is accessible at almost anytime during the main storyline you can progress too far and miss these. This walkthrough suggests playing this at your first available opportunity, but will also remind you prior to passing the point of no return. Given that this is a separate game and can be accessed through majority of the game, we've included a complete walkthrough of these achievements on their own page.

This achievement is buggy as it does not unlock right after all other achievements are earned. Instead, after earning all other achievements, you need to force-close the game (cn_guide scroll down to and select "Quit"), then reload the game, selecting any of your save games, and the achievement should unlock a few moments after loading.

There are a couple of "point-of-no-return" moments in the game. What I mean by this is that either you will use an item in your inventory that you needed to interact with prior to using item, causing you to miss an achievement, or you'll progress the storyline too far forward, which would also cause you to miss an achievement. You are allowed 10 in-game save slots (use the Open Menu button cn_start to access the save or load options) and I will note suggested save spots, just in case you accidentally skipped an achievement.

Finally, I'll leave you with some inspiration before embarking on this journey. . .
