3. Dead Rising Playthrough 1: Zombie GenociderUpdate notes

For the first playthrough you will ignore all scoops and survivors. After Case 1-3 you will not complete any other cases and will finish the game by being at the helicopter pad right before noon on the 22nd.

At the beginning of the game, you may either play through the helicopter ride or skip it. If this is your first time playing the game, go ahead and play it so you can learn about the camera controls. You can get upwards of 10,000 PP playing this scene, but it is possible to earn many more times that by playing the first couple minutes of the game; you can safely skip it by pressing cn_start.

Make your way through the security room to the Entrance Plaza for the cut-scene. None of these survivors can be saved and are not needed to get any survivor related achievements. Go to the opposite side of this area from the mall entrance to the security gate which will force a cut-scene. Brad will tell you that you can get to safety by going up the stairs but before you join Brad in the security room climb up on top of the advertisement board in the center of the hallway. From here take a shot of the horde of zombies that are now all over the plaza. Play with zooming the camera a bit if you don't get it on the first attempt. With little effort you'll unlock:

Run up the stairs and after another cut-scene you will be in the security room. Try to leave through the vent and Otis will give you the map and radio. Try again to go through the vent and once you are on the roof, head right, toward the elevator and find Jeff Meyer. Talk to Jeff to get him to join you. Then go around to the other side of the roof and find Natalie Meyer. Be prepared to take their photo as they get near each other, and when the yellow PP icon appears over their heads as they hug take the shot and you should net enough PP to unlock both:

Talk to them to get Natalie to join you. Now take them back to the security room.

For both Jeff and Natalie, and any other survivor you have to escort, you will receive PP when they join you and when you bring them to the security room.

Go back out through the vent, but do not take the elevator down to the warehouse. Instead go to the left through the door near where you found Natalie. Walk off of the top of the shelves to get:

Continue out into Paradise Plaza. Prior to getting to the door, you will trigger a cut-scene where Jessie will give you a gun. After you enter Paradise Plaza head across the way to Child's Play (P102). Punch the giant Servbot to spin its head around so that the swirly eyes match with the frown for a free 10,000 PP.

Leave the toy store and go underneath the stairs into Bachman's Bookporium (P108). Grab Horror Novel 2.

Head upstairs through SporTrance (P111) and into Colombian Roastmasters and fill the rest of your inventory with orange juice. Head downstairs into the bathroom and make a save.

Go across Leisure Park and into the food court and you will get the cut-scene with Carlito. You can try to kill him from where you stand but I recommend that you run through the middle of the seating area and climb up on to the rafters where Carlito is and shoot him or melee him at close range. After the cut-scene, follow Brad to Entrance Plaza. While running through Al Fresca Plaza, when you get to the first umbrella you see, pick it up with cn_B like any weapon, and then press and hold cn_X and you will begin running. Just guide Frank into zombies avoiding anything else. After you knock 30 down in one run you will unlock:

Continue following Brad until you go talk to Dr. Barnaby. After this cut-scene, go upstairs to The Sinister Read (E201) and pick up Horror Novel 1.

There are 500 PP bonuses at each 50 zombie kill count interval, as well as 20,000 PP bonuses for each 1,000 zombies. Thanks to the books you picked up, that is increased by 25% of the original value for each book, for a total of a 50% increase. This means you are now earning 750 PP and 30,000 PP respectively for the zombie intervals.

Go back through Al Fresca to the Food Court then in to Leisure Park. Go toward the clock tower then veer slightly left to the narrow passage way that leads to the parking lot and hop in the red convertible. Head down into the tunnels by turning left through the horde of zombies and then u-turn around the light pole through that group of zombies. Pause and back up to the wall. Now drive forward at full speed and aim to the right side of the tunnel entrance and after you drive through you should get enough air for:

If you do not get the achievement on the first try, you will have multiple opportunities to try again.

Once you are down into the tunnels, take a left and follow the tunnel around to an open area with a bunch of zombies and two cargo trucks. The truck in the back of this area is used for a later mission and is not running. Now go in reverse circles killing the majority of zombies in this area until the red car is destroyed or there aren't enough zombies left to kill to make it worth the effort. Jump out of the car and go to the working cargo truck, the one at the front of the open area, and head directly back out to the parking lot where the red convertible has re-spawned. With this abbreviated route, you should never be in the position of having to make a long trek back through hordes of zombies to a vehicle. Continue to repeat this route and fairly quickly you'll unlock both:

Here is a video of the route to the red convertible and one zombie killing circuit.

As you continue to rack up zombie kills, you will randomly unlock different attributes each time you level up. These are: Attack (seven levels), Speed (three levels), Health (twelve blocks), Inventory (twelve blocks), Throw Distance (five levels) and Skills. There are 21 skills and they are mostly special melee attacks, but include the Zombie Walk and Zombie Ride, which are methods of bypassing zombies without attacking or taking damage.

You should unlock Zombie Ride before you get to 53,594. When you do, the next time you get to the open area where you do the reverse donuts, get out of the car first and avoid the zombies long enough to get them to bunch up, then press cn_A to jump on their shoulders and walk around on them until you unlock:

  • Zombie Road

Walk over 33 feet (10 meters) on the backs of zombies using the Zombie Ride.

    Zombie Road

Once complete get back in the convertible and continue slaying zombies. After somewhere between three and four hours total, when you reach 53,594 zombies slain you will get:

Once this is unlocked, complete the circuit you are on until you leave the tunnels and are outside in the parking lot. Now, get on the motorcycle and head to the small pond in front of the Food Court. Ride through it and out the other side. If you did it properly you will unlock:

If you don't get it, just keep trying, it shouldn't take more than two or three tries.

Head back to Paradise Plaza and save in the bathroom downstairs.

You should be sitting on over a day of game time left before you need to be on the roof. Use this time to get some of the less time consuming miscellaneous achievements.

Go to Child's Play (P102) again and pick up all of the Servbot masks on the floor and start putting them on zombies with cn_X. After you have used all of the masks, you can kill the zombies that are wearing them and reuse them until you unlock:

Now, go to the fountain inside Paradise Plaza and in front of the exit to Leisure Park. In the fountain is the bowling ball, pick it up and head out into the park and over to the door to the Food Court and line up a shot on the zombies in front of the door. Knock down 10 or more and you unlock:

Now go back to Paradise Plaza and save in the restroom and then head up to the helipad. Just wait there until the final cut-scene starts and soon after you will get:
