5. Deadly Premonition (EU/JP) Weapons, Cars, Suits

Introduction

In this page you'll find a list of the weapons, cars and suit available in the game. Please keep in mind that some of the locations of the weapons refer to locations of the game that are visited in the latest phases. They aren't exactly "spoilers", but (just in case) beware that I'll mention late-story locations.

Weapons

.

In the game there are two main groups of weapons: melee weapons and firearms. The melee weapons usually offer a better alternative to fight, since they are (surprisingly) more powerful and they can stun enemies more easily than firearms.

Some special weapons have are defined as "Infinite". If they are melee weapons, this means that their durability is infinite, and therefore they can't break. If they are firearms, it means that their ammo is infinite, although their magazine is not infinite. Most of the times the "infinite" version of a firearm will improve the size of its magazine, but there are exceptions. For these two exceptions (12Ga Shotgun CQB and .357 Magnum) the non-Infinite version is actually better.

The main "weapon shop" of the game is Panda Bear, which opens in Chapter 07 but is also available remotely from the "Toolbox" menu.

Melee Weapons (Infinite)

There are two big groups of melee weapons: normal and infinite. The "normal" weapons (such as Steel Pipe, Shovel, Mission Knife) are common weapons used by enemies, scattered around the dungeons, and available for sale even at weird locations such as the food store "Milk Barn". They are the least useful weapons in the game, and you really won't be using them, let alone look for them; therefore I won't be detailing their stats and position.

The "Infinite" melee weapons are much more interesting. Below is a list of them.

Wrench (Infinite)
Strength: Medium.
Speed: Fast.
Range: Short.
Location: complete Side Mission No.029 (earliest opportunity in Chapter 02).
Note: best weapon for most of the game. It can easily stun enemies by hitting their upper half quickly and repeatedly.

Legendary Guitar Grecotch (Infinite)
Strength: Highest.
Speed: Very Slow.
Range: Long.
Location: complete Side Mission No.021 (earliest opportunity in Chapter 02).
Note: very powerful, but too slow to be reliable. Really better than the other weapons only against Crawling Shadows.

Light Sword (Infinite)
Strength: High.
Speed: Slow.
Range: Long.
Location: complete Side Mission No.039 (earliest opportunity in Chapter 26, even though the quest in theory could be completed in Chapter 07).
Note: good weapon against Crawling Shadows, though by the time you acquire it you probably won't have to fight many more of them.

Axe (Infinite)
Strength: High.
Speed: Very Slow.
Range: Long.
Location: at the end of the Otherworld Replay of Greenvale Sheriff's Department (Chapter 26).
Note: very mediocre weapon.

Chain Saw (Infinite)
Strength: High.
Speed: Very Slow.
Range: Long.
Location: at the end of the Otherworld Replay of Harry's Mansion (Chapter 26).
Note: to kill a Shadow with this weapon you need to keep holding A after hitting it until the Shadow is cut in half by the Chainsaw. Very unpractical, but it might be fun to try.

Grass Cutter (Infinite)
Strength: High.
Speed: Instantaneous.
Range: Long.
Location: at the end of the Otherworld Replay of G.V. Community Center (Clock Tower) (Chapter 26).
Note: best weapon in the game against regular Shadows. Hold A to make it hit enemies strongly and in an extremely rapid succession.

Firearms

All of the firearms have an "Infinite" version, but not all of them have a non-Infinite version.

9mm Handgun FBI Custom (Infinite)
Strength: Low.
Speed: Medium.
Magazine: 16 + Infinite.
Location: default weapon.
Note: default weapon; can't be too good, can't be too bad.

9mm Handgun Sheriff Custom (Infinite)
Strength: Medium.
Speed: Medium.
Magazine: 19 + Infinite.
Location: automatically acquired in Chapter 21.
Note: better than the 9mm Handgun FBI Custom, though not by far.

10mm Submachine Gun
Strength: Very Low.
Speed: Very Fast.
Magazine: 180 + 720.
Ammo: 270 for 125.5 $ (Panda Bear).
Location: can be found in Moyer's Lumbermill - Otherworld (Chapter 05). Can be bought at Panda Bear's for 2,499.5 $.
Note: not very good.

10mm Submachine Gun (Infinite)
Strength: Very Low.
Speed: Very Fast.
Magazine: 360 + Infinite.
Location: complete Side Mission No.014 (earliest opportunity in Chapter 07).
Note: very good against bosses, but also against regular Shadows. With no bullet limit you can literally just spam bullets in the Shadows' face, stunning them continuously.

12Ga Shotgun CQB
Strength: High.
Speed: Slow.
Magazine: 7 + 70.
Ammo: 14 for 137.5 $ (Panda Bear).
Range: Short, but wide.
Location: Panda Bear, from Chapter 13 (3,499.5 $).
Note: not important.

12Ga Shotgun CQB (Infinite)
Strength: High.
Speed: Slow.
Magazine: 6 + Infinite.
Location: complete Side Mission No.015 (earliest opportunity in Chapter 14).
Note: not important.

5.56 Assault Rifle CQB
Strength: Medium.
Speed: Fast.
Magazine: 60 + 360.
Ammo: 90 for 347.5 $ (Panda Bear).
Location: Panda Bear, from Chapter 20 (10,499 $).
Note: better than the 10mm Submachine Gun.

5.56 Assault Rifle CQB (Infinite)
Strength: Medium.
Speed: Fast.
Magazine: 120 + Infinite.
Location: at the end of the Otherworld Replay of Galaxy of Terror (Chapter 26).
Note: better than the 10mm Submachine Gun (Infinite).

.357 Magnum
Strength: Very High.
Speed: Slow.
Magazine: 6 + 84.
Ammo: 36 for 531 $ (Panda Bear).
Location: Panda Bear, from Chapter 16 (6,999.5 $).
Note: best weapon against all bosses of the game.

.357 Magnum (Infinite)
Strength: Very High.
Speed: Slow.
Magazine: 4 + Infinite.
Location: complete Side Mission No.011 (earliest opportunity in Chapter 08). This weapon is missable since you can get a different reward if you don't start Side Mission No.011 with the correct items! Refer to the Side Missions page for more info.
Note: worse than the .357 Magnum (still very good though).

Wesley Special (Infinite)
Strength: N/D.
Speed: Instantaneous.
Magazine: 100 "units" + Infinite.
Range: Very short.
Location: complete Side Mission No.050 (earliest opportunity in Chapter 09).
Note: one of the best weapons against regular Shadows. You set them on fire with it, then they will instant-die (regardless of their health) a few seconds afterwards. They may hit you with their "kamikaze" attacks after you set them on fire, but these attacks deal so little damage that (combined with the healing power of the Weather Doll) it still makes this weapon the best choice for fast kills against regular Shadows. Unfortunately its great effectiveness doesn't justify the lengthy process required to obtain this weapon.

RPG (Infinite)
Strength: Extreme.
Speed: Medium.
Magazine: 3 + Infinite.
Location: complete Side Mission No.016 (earliest opportunity in Chapter 26).
Note: strongest weapon of the game, but it will heavily damage York if you shoot a missile too close to where he is. This "friendly fire" side effect make it a bad weapon in most of the circumstances. You probably finished every "fight" part of the game by the time you acquire this weapon, so it's more of a tool to mess around than an actually useful weapon.

Cars

.

In addition to the two default police cars (car and SUV) there are three "special" cars that you can get via side quests: York's Car (best car in the game), Emily's Car, George's Car. Moreover, a bunch of cars can be bought at Lysander's Junkyard's.

All of the cars you obtain will appear in the parking lot of the Great Deer Yard Hotel. From then on, as you move around town (fast-travel with the Radio, or simply reach and enter a building and then exit it) you will find the last used car outside the locations you come from.

The best car in the game is York's Car, but getting it is a bit time-consuming. The "upgraded" normal police cars (especially if upgraded after doing Side Missions # 40 and 41) are more than good enough.
