2. Welcome to Decay
Although horror-themed, Decay is a classic first-person point 'n' click adventure. If you've played Myst or even the Artifex Mundi games, you'll know what to expect from the mechanics. With that said, here's a brief overview of the controls:
- Move the on-screen cursor
- move / rotate character
- combines items in the inventory
- back / deselect
- slow the cursor (mainly in Part 4)
- speed up the cursor (mainly in Part 4)
- pause the game
Note that to combine items, you need to open your inventory then press over the first item you wish to use. Now highlight a second item and press . If you change your mind, press to cancel the combination.
SAVING THE GAME
Although an autosave is present, you can also manually save by pausing the game and selecting the option. It's not really necessary, as there's only one save slot which is shared with the autosave, and the few instances in the game where you can fail put you right back before you attempted them anyway.
The only missable achievements are one in Part 2, with the rest in Part 4, and are tied to collectibles, puzzles and several different endings. This means you can go ahead and enjoy being surprised by the story and the horror taking note of the one missable in Part 2, and come back to the guide for the final chapter if you wish to experience the game as it was intended. Even the missables in Chapters 2 & 4 aren't really missable per se, as you can select to play through that entire part of the game once you unlock it, as detailed in the overview.
I'll still list them here, however, so you know what you're in for:
Dial the number found on the access card to Oswald Estates.
I'll go over this in the guide of course, but if you're playing blind up to Part 4, you'll need to know this in advance: During Part 2, you'll find several security swipe cards which give you access to different parts of the building. Open your inventory with and examine them. One of them will have a message and a phone number on the back - Note the number, and be sure to dial it on the telephone you'll find in one of the rooms as you progress. You can't miss the phone, as you need to answer it at one stage to continue the story. You get the achievement for calling that number, so make sure you do it before completing the chapter!
Get the best ending in Part 4.
I'll detail all of the above in the guide. Finally, there's a cumulative achievement for reaching all eight ending variants. This will require two full playthroughs of Part 4, and six partial playthroughs from a save point. I will go into detail during the walkthrough and make the options as clear as possible. The related achievement is:
Find out all the different endings in Part 4.
For those who prefer a visual guide, You can follow Billzumanati's video guides, which I will include at the top of each page. I recommend following either the text or the video, as the order of events may slightly differ.
Remember, you can pause the game whenever you like! There's no time limit or silly related achievements in this one, so just follow closely and you'll have your full 1000g in around three hours.
