this review is broken into achievements (where the game is reviewed with only achievement hunting in mind) followed by both the good and the bad (where the game is reviewed in terms of enjoyment)

    achievements
achievement-wise this game is a massively long (200-300h but if you are both familiar with and also a try hard at Diablo games it will probably only take you about 100h as that is how long it took me) completion so if you are a completionist you are going to need to invest a good chunk of time to get some of these achievements (and also some time into researching builds online)

there are no missable achievements (you will have to make multiple characters but only two -- one softcore and one hardcore -- of those characters will require longer than a few minutes of investment) but there are two achievements that will really test your patience and are solely responsible for the long completion time (ironically, neither of them actually requires you to be "good" at the game as the first one is basically Dark Souls meets Frogger plus "did you build correctly" and the second is a test of your ability to grind):
Diablo IVEnd of the First MotherThe End of the First Mother achievement in Diablo IV worth 324 pointsDefeat the Echo of Lilith.

Diablo IVDevoted ProtectorThe Devoted Protector achievement in Diablo IV worth 252 pointsReach Paragon Level 200 with any character.

the best resource for the former is https://www.wowhead.com/diablo-4/guide/classes/uber-lilith-t... and for the latter is https://www.icy-veins.com/d4/guides/leveling-tier-list/ (just be sure to switch to an endgame build somewhere in between T3 and T4 so that your leveling process stays smooth.. then once you hit 100 switch to an Uber Lilith build so you can take her out)

    the good
gameplay (as someone who fell in love with Diablo 2 many, many years ago I was able to get a lot of enjoyment out of this action role-playing game)
combat (frantic, fluid and very enjoyable and makes the game hard to put down)
loot system (one of the things i was most nervous about but i think they really did a good job in this game)
character customization (each class has a unique style but you have a lot of customization options within that style)
art (grim, dark and bloody awesome)
fun with friends (still fun solo but i had a blast with my friends and highly encourage you to play this with others as it makes the grind a more pleasurable experience)

    the bad
grindy (at the end of the day if you don't appreciate and enjoy the experience and loot grind then you probably won't enjoy the game)
Helltides (at end of Season 2 these felt boring and slow compared to seasonal events so i'm hoping they improve this experience)
Uber Lilith fight (personally, i loved the challenge of this fight and i think more fights like this could have made the game even more fun but the fact remains that this fight had nothing to do with your ability to play Diablo 4 and instead played out like a Dark Souls + Frogger game so if you are doing it solo to get the achievement it is going to tilt you out of this world)
    4.5
