"
Discolored" is a first person puzzle game developed by Jason Godbey. It can be played either free roam (like a typical walking simulator) or as a point & click adventure. It is also a quick completion.
There is no real story in this game, you just start in an elevator that arrives at some abandoned office. There is a bit of a tutorial at the front desk explaining the controls which are a bit unintuitive: You interact with and pick up objects with the

button, open your inventory with the

button, you can combine objects in your inventory and if you want use an object you first need to press the

button to close the inventory. You can also run by holding the

button.
You will find a 3D image viewer and some slide which will teleport you into a black and white image of an abandoned diner in the desert. This is where the main part of the game will take place where you will solve some puzzles to progress. While there are some classic ones like finding an object like a bucket and using it at a well, you will also find 3 different colored triangles (green, blue, red) which will add the specific color to the grey visuals when placed in their intended sockets and unlock objects which are otherwise locked in black & white. The color based puzzles seem a bit elaborate but otherwise the game is just about finding and using objects at the correct place.
The game's 3D design looks fairly "
clean". The 3D objects are kept simple and easy to identify, there is a lack of textures. but the greyscale image with the 3 colored game-mechanic add something unique to the presentation. The chill piano music in the background adds a feeling of tranquility and mystery.
Without a guide the game can take 2-3 hours to complete. The logic of some of the puzzles is a bit far fetched like using a photograph on a TV and change the channel to make an object appear, which might require some time to figure out. Personally I used a video guide to save time, making it possible to finish the game in less than an hour. There are few missable achievements but it's easy to get them since the game is so short.
Discolored is a decent, short & unique indie puzzle game.
