Challenge Mode

Now we will cover the challenge mode achievements. There are five different challenge modes and each is preset with its own high scores. Scoring high enough to be number one on the high score tables will get you the achievement for the respective mode. Select challenge mode and highlight one of the challenge types. Pressing X will take you to the online leaderboards and pressing Y will show you the "personal best" leaderboards. The online leaderboards DO NOT pertain to the achievement, while the “personal best” leaderboard DOES. Reaching the top spot on the "personal best" leaderboard is what unlocks the achievements.

Sudden Death: In this one, you kill everything in one hit, but die in one hit as well. This is a lot easier than it sounds, since the peon AI is fairly stupid. After I beat the 1st place score (200 kills), I stood still so they could kill me. It took the peons 11 seconds to hit me, however the officers are far more dangerous. They are most likely to use a dash attach if they are running at you. Avoid them if possible, and use a musou attack if you are afraid. Also, be aware that Lu Bu will spawn around 100 kills and come after you. I used Guan Yu for this one and 200 kills was not hard to obtain. Just don’t be careless. Being top will net you this…

Speed run: Speed run is exactly what it sounds like. You start at a base, have to walk into the 7 red bases on the map, and you need to complete this in less than 3 minutes 30 seconds. I am sure there are multiple ways to do this one, but I'll walk you through how I completed it. I used Zhao Yun for this and I finished in 3 minutes and 17 seconds.

You start at the central base. From here, walk directly north and jump into the base. Use the west exit and continue west to the next base. You'll enter this base on the east and leave out the west exit. You'll pass a bannerman. Kill him and get the 10 second speed boost he drops. Go south around the mountain/rock/whatever until you come up on some tigers and a lieutenant. When killed, the lieutenant drops a tome, which would be beneficial to obtain if you are playing a character that has the speed boost special move. If you are not playing a character that has this special move, keep going south to the next base. If you do try to kill the lieutenant, you have to be quick. The tigers and the lieutenant are fairly aggressive AI. You'll need to blitz the lieutenant and get away before the tigers swarm you.

Regardless, continue south to the next base and enter from the west. Use the south exit and continue heading south to the next base. Enter this base from the west, then immediately go back out and take the small path to the south. Go east on this path, drop down and continue to the next base. Enter this base from the west and exit from the same spot. These two bases are not considered "finished". They only have one entrance/exit, where all the other bases have at least 2. Your character MAY be able to jump over the back fence to cut off some time, but some characters cannot do this. I couldn't get it to work with Zhao Yun. So, once you have exited from that base, go north and into the water. Quickly swim to the north coast and enter the next base from the south. Exit out the north and follow the path north, and then west. This path will take you to the final base. There is a wood ox on the way that drops a speed boost. The game also calls it a juggernaut, but basically, it is the siege weapon that shoots fire. I suggest skipping this unless you really need the speed boost. I didn't find it necessary, and found that it knocks you down, wasting a lot of time. Either way run into the last base to end the stage. You’ll get this for being number one…

Havoc: Havoc is all about destroying objects. You need 200 points for 1st. Siege objects are worth 10 points, pots/boxes are worth one point. The dots on your minimap are siege weapons. You want to make sure you get all of them. They only take a couple hits to kill. Again, I used Zhao Yun. I went east, destroyed stuff, then went north and cleared that area out. Next, I went south using the far right path. Watch out for the wood ox though. Their fire breath will knock you down, wasting your time. You’ll get this for being number 1…

Rampage: In rampage you have ten minutes, or until you die, to get 1500 kills. Sounds daunting, but you’ll be in a small area that is always swarming with peons and officers. All you really need to do is mash X for the majority of the ten minutes. After a few minutes, Lu Bu will spawn and if you kill him, a TON of peons spawn. Around the second time he appears, which was around 1300 kills for me, the officers got a lot stronger. They can then kill you in less than ten hits. The officers drop speed/defense boosts and health. I unlocked this achievement once the second horde spawned, after Lu Bu’s death. I died fairly soon after that, but I ended with about 1610. I used Guan Yu for this one. You’ll get this for number 1…

Gauntlet: In gauntlet, you run around a small enclosure collecting pouches for points. You’ll need 1500+ points to get 1st. The catch is the horses that are running around, knocking you down and damaging you. Bannermen and a guard captain will appear from time to time. The bannermen drop random powerups: speed/damage boost, musou full powerups. The guard captain drops a key. When you pick it up, it closes the gate that the horses are coming from for about 10 seconds. The number of horses, and pouches, increases as time goes on. This is probably the easiest of all challenges. I got 1500 points with more than a minute to spare. Being in first will get you this…

Completist

Alright, now it is time to level all characters up to level 50. There are two ways to do this. You can play through a stage with a lot of officers (Guan Du as either Cao Cao’s or Lu Bu’s forces for example), or play through a short stage you can win very quickly. I use a short stage myself. So here is what I suggest…

Battle of He Fei Castle, Wu’s Forces

Use a second controller. The second controller should always be the weaker of the two. You’ll need to turn the second controller to the right and then go down the ramp to the left/right split and then take a right. Jump into the small lake on the right. No one will bother it here. Now take the first controller and run down to Sun Quan. The fastest way to do so is to run up the cliff in the middle of the map and jump off it to the south. Run to the middle boat and grab the musou wine from the pot, then go west to the boat with Sun Quan in it. Cut him down to end the stage.

Choose the highest difficulty you can manage with the chosen character. The higher the difficulty, the more experience you get. You should eventually get to the point where you can control both controllers at once, this will speed things up greatly. I would suggest trying to do it from the start.

Both characters get experience from two things, the clear time and the targets. The experience from targets is split, but the experience from the clear time is separate. You can get a couple thousand points from clear time for both characters for 2-3 minutes max of time spent. Once you get the hang of controlling both controllers at the start and learning the path and such, you can do things very quickly.

The main thing you need to make sure of is that you are using a weapon with flash on each character. Always keep an eye out for weapons with flash after each stage so that way when you finish leveling the first character, you can swap in the second character and have a flash weapon. Then you set the second controller as the next weak guy to level up, and repeat the process until you have all characters to level 50, earning you this…
