3. F1 2013 Young Drivers Test

So finally we jump to how to obtain all the achievements for this game. In the Young Driver Test there are 4 achievements in total. The first step is to Select your Name, sub-name (last name) and of course, your Nationality. These are all player choice and have NO effect what-so-ever on your play through. This is only to identify yourself within the position rankings of the game. Next, select the first option, it will look like this:
"How much of a challenge do you want from Formula One" > Select:
> Not too much, I'm New to this and need to get to speed <

The reason for this is that the tutorials will be on and the AI will be automatically set on EASY for you. Next, select one of the 3 teams given, these are:
- Infiniti Red Bull Racing
- Scuderia Ferrari
- Vodafone McLaren Mercedes

This is a personal choice to the player however for this Walkthrough, I will select Scuderia Ferrari. Follow the tutorial once you reach the cut-scene of the garage. To the right, select ENGINEER, then go to OPTIONS. Select DRIVING ASSISTS then your first option is BRAKING ASSIST. Turn it off. This will ensure you that YOU have control of the car and that it doesn't slow down or brake whenever it wants. Back from the options menu, select the first option: YOUNG DRIVER TEST SELECT. This will have a set of selections and test that will teach you the ropes on how to drive an F1 car. If you are experienced with a car, completing these will still net you achievements, so I recommend you complete them. We will try to achieve Gold Medals for all the trials. This allows will give you the achievement:

Going for Gold

You have earned a gold medal in a Young Driver Test.

TIP: When completing these test, on the right side, you will see a blue bar that will let you know if you have either completed the task by either driving over that line or driving at a specific speed. Achieving all these blue bars does NOT ensure you Gold times. But they are however, required to get them all for Gold. So be fast and complete these at the same time.

Here are all the guides, times, and explanations on how to complete all of the YOUNG DRIVER TEST:

TEST 1: STRAIGHT LINE TEST:
Instruction: Drive down the track as fast as possible, stopping in the marked zone (the red floor). DO NOT drive past the zone or you will fail the test.
- You must accelerate to at least 160 MPH / 258 KPH
- Gold Time: 19.500 sec
TIP: Slam the brake right before the 200 METER sign on the right side as you drive. This will stop you in the RED zone.

TEST 2: RACING 101 VIDEO:
> Just watch the video as it is a tutorial on driving mechanics. There is NO way to fail this, but you MUST watch the whole video for it to count.

TEST 3: HAIRPIN TURN TEST:
Instruction: Drive around the corner ensuring you hit all of the apex (the WHITE small boxes on the floor) boxes, accelerate and the stop within the mark zone (RED floor).
- Hit the white Apex
- Accelerate to at least 185 MPH / 298 KPH
- Gold Time: 30.000 sec
TIP: Staring this test, accelerate passing over the first Apex then turn left for the U-turn. As you are turning, instead of accelerating with full speed, tap the gas repeatedly to accelerate. This will keep your wheels from spinning. Once you are out of the corner, continue down the track. The game will then Blow up one of your tires. Press SELECT to rewind to the point where your tire is fixed, then X to continue. These are called FLASHBACKS. These will allow you to return back to a specific time shall you make a mistake. Once this is done, keep going. SLAM the brakes just before the 200 METER sign on the right to stop at the RED zone.

TEST 4: BASELINE PERFORMANCE TEST:
Instruction: Drive around a number of corners hitting the apex boxes. Accelerate down the straight and stop within the marked zone (RED floor).
- Hit all the Apex. Be quick.
- Gold Time: 37.000 sec
TIP: Start by accelerating to the right of the track. Instead of breaking, LET GO of the gas throwing your car to the left, then to the right. Then for the U-turn, drive on the inside to hit the Apex. Remember to TAP the gas instead of flooring it so you don't spin. Again, brake right before the 200 METER sign.
NOTE: If you have completed all the test up to now with gold, MARUSSIA F1 TEAM will be unlocked here.

TEST 5: KERS AND DRS VIDEO:
> Watch the video to learn about KERS and DRS. You cannot fail this test but MUST watch the whole video to count.

TEST 6: KERS & DRS SYSTEM CHECK:
First, RB button will activate your KERS which Y button will activate your DRS.
Instruction: Use KERS and DRS to overtake and then finish ahead of the other car without colliding with them. You can only use DRS when you cross the activation line.
- DO NOT touch the opponent car.
- Gold Time: 17.000 sec
TIP: Start by accelerating and placing your car right behind the opponent’s car. As soon as your car shifts to the second gear, engage the KERS (RB) while accelerating. This will boost your speed. Pass the line to activate the DRS. Once this is on, drive full speed pass the car. Easy gold.
NOTE: CATERHAM F1 TEAM will be unlocked after this test is GOLD.

TEST 7: KERS & DRS PERFORMANCE TEST:
Instruction: Use KERS and DRS to overtake and finish ahead of the three cars, without colliding with them. You can only use DRS when you cross the activation line.
- Use KERS and DRS to overtake all 3 cars without colliding with them.
- Gold Time: 40.000 sec
TIP: Same as last test, start off by placing your car behind the first rival. Past your first gear then engage your KERS. Instead of using all your KERS, only use about 50% of it. This section of the track has 2 DRS activation spots. So to win this one, pass the cars once you activate your DRS, by driving to the left of them. When you get close to the first corner, slowdown between the 200 and the 100 METER board to ensure you win this corner. The key to not crashing here is taking the corner on the inside while overtaking the last rival. The track then does a shark right then an easy left. At this point, tap the gas to make sure you don't spin out before that right turn. Once you have FULL control of the car, use the rest of your KERS to gain speed. Activate DRS on the second section when possible and then FINISH.
NOTE: Toro Rosso F1 Team is unlocked after obtaining Gold here.

TEST 8: TYRE CONSERVATION VIDEO:
> Another video, this one will teach you the importance of all 4 type of available tires. The player MUST watch the full video in order to get credit for it.

Training Day

You have completed all Day 1 tests in the Young Drivers Test.

Here starts DAY 2 of the YOUNG DRIVER TEST. This is similar to the first set of tests. Here you will learn about WET conditions, Tire Wear, and have your final test with everything you've learned so far. The final Test is a FULL lap of the Yas Marina Circuit.

TEST 1 / DAY 2: WET TRACK BRAKING TEST:
Instruction: Drive down the track as fast as possible, stopping in the marked zone (RED floor). Remember that the wet track will increase your stopping distance.
- WET tires and track. Break sooner test.
- Gold Time: 24.000 sec
TIP: Same as the first test in DAY 1. Drive straight full speed and hit the brakes before the 200 METER sign to the right.

TEST 2 / DAY 2: WET WEATHER TEST:
Instruction: Drive around the track while hitting the apex boxes. Cross the finish line within the target time.
- Hit all 6 apex markers.
- Gold Time: 44.000 sec
TIP: The general rule to driving in WET weather is to keep control of your car. When the test starts, throw your car to the left letting go of the gas and lightly touching the brake. Regain control the full speed on the next sector. This track goes to the right twice. Both corner can be done at full speed. Once you pass the 3rd apex, there is a sharp right. Hit the brake either before the 3rd apex or after to make this turn. Here, it is important to speed up ONLY tapping the accelerator. If not, you will spin out. Make the next corner to the left with speed. The following corner to the left after that requires only that you let go of the gas then accelerate. The final corner is the most difficult one. Here, go over the apex and accelerate at full speed. This challenge make take 1-2 tries depending on the player's skill.
NOTE: SAHARA Force India F1 Team will be unlocked upon obtaining Gold Medal in this test.

TEST 3 / DAY 2: RACING LING TEST:
Instruction: Drive around the track, ensuring you keep close to the racing line. Keep within the target time.
- Stay below 100% deviation
- Gold time: 40.000 sec
TIP: Stay on the green driving line as much as possible. The deviation time increases if you drive off the racing line. So be quick. This test is just practice to follow the line. Is easy enough to achieve Gold here.

TEST 4 / DAY 2: TYRE WEAR TEST:
Instruction: Drive around the track hitting the apex boxes. Cross the finish line within the target time. Remember that worn tyres will make your car harder to handle when braking.
- Hit all 6 Apex of the track driving with worn out tires.
- Gold Time: 41.000 sec
TIP: Driving with worn-out tires is basically the same as driving in WET conditions. It is easy to spin out. The main tip in this test is to keep control of your car while moving down the tracks hitting all the apex.
NOTE: WILLIAMS F1 TEAM will unlock upon completing this test.

TEST 5 / DAY 2: TIMED LAP TEST:
Instruction: Drive a single lap of the Yas Marina circuit, ensuring you hit the apex boxes. Cross the finish line with the target time.
- Hit ALL 18 apex markers. Stay inside the track and DO NOT corner cut. Complete the lap within the target time.
- Gold Time: 1:55.000 sec
TIP: This test is all about your speed so here is where you learn to drive in the Yas Marina FULL Circuit. The best general tips are: Use KERS only when coming out of corner (Sharp corners) use about 15% per corner exit. Be quick, but down floor the accelerator, instead, tap it until you have control of your car, then full speed to the next section. Consistency is the name of the game here. Not spinning out will get you gold. Keep trying till you pass GOLD time. Also, remember that this track has 2 DRS sections. You DO NOT need to have another car ahead of you to activate DRS, so use it to gain speed. It is also VERY important to keep in mind that you can use up to 4 FLASHBACKS if you mess up. So feel free to use and abuse of these.
NOTE: Sauber F1 Team will be unlocked upon completing this test on Gold time.

TEST 5 / DAY 2: EVALUATION TEST:
Instruction: Drive two laps of the Yas Marina circuit, ensuring that you finish within the specified target time.
- Finish this lap within the target time.
- Gold Time: 3:35.000 scs
TIP: This is the same as the last test with 2 exceptions. The first one is that you must complete 2 laps instead of one, so the time grid is twice as long. The second exception is that this time, the track isn't all yours. There will be around 4 cars around the track driving with you. This could mean 2 things for you: Either a really good adventage situation or complete disaster. Read all the tips from the last test however, keep in mind that stayinbg behind opponents will create a draft of air, allowing you to gain speed to catch or overtake them. Use your KERS and DRS wisely and surely this will be a EASY Gold medal for you. Don't get too greedy while over taking tho. One mistake can mean no Gold.
NOTE: F1 LOTUS TEAM will be unlocked here upon completing the test on Gold Time.

The Golden Child

You have earned a gold medal in each Young Driver Test.

This achievement is unlocked here. The last 2 test are not requirements for the achievement. They are your choice to complete. These two are: FREE RUN DRY and FREE RUN WET. They are just to practice on the Yas Marina track.

For this achievement, you just need to complete all days of Young Driver Test, it doesn't matter what medal you achieved in any test. But here in this walkthrough I suggest you to get in every test a gold medal.
