MULTIPLAYER
In Multiplayer mode you will need to enter three hopper races where you are matched against other players automatically over Xbox Live. Then for all the remaining achievements, you can host private lobbies with just one other racer to grind them out as efficiently as possible. Let's get started.
At the time of writing (mid-October 2015), the online population in the game seems to be quite small. Searching for a Hopper lobby won't always find a session that you can join, and you will need to try a different Hopper mode or try again at some other time. Keep this in mind and search as often as you can until you have these three achievements unlocked. It is possible to invite players to a Hopper lobby once you are in one, so if you are able to team up with one or more other racers and all search at the same time, this technique might improve your chances.
To search for Hoppers, from the main menu select Multiplayer, and then select an option from beneath any of Beginner, Standard or Hardcore respectively. The game will then return you to the main menu, but will flash a message at the top left of screen that says "Searching for Hopper Session - Standard Sprint" or similar. While this is happening, you know that a search is happening. When an open lobby is found, you will be taken into the lobby immediately. From here you can select your car, vote to skip the next track, and even spectate the current race if one is in progress.
The next race in the session will start automatically following a countdown timer, and you will be racing against other gamers and potentially some A.I. drivers to make up the numbers. Note that in Hardcore hopper races no assists are allowed, so if you are not used to it, take it nice and slow, and stay out of the way of others. Simply finish the race to unlock the achievement relevant to the Hopper lobby you are racing in. Do this for all three Hopper lobbies and you will have unlocked...
Hard-BoiledYou have completed an online race in the Hardcore Hopper.
With the Hopper necessities out of the way, you are now back in control of your races. And while you can unlock the rest of the multiplayer achievements in Hopper lobbies if you have no other choice, you will save time and possibly frustration if you can arrange to work together with one other gamer with the same aims. The remainder of this section of the walkthrough assumes you will be working in a pair.
To start up a private lobby, from the main menu choose Multiplayer, and then choose Friends Only from beneath the Custom Race heading. The game will create and load you into a custom lobby. From the left hand menu, select Assists and set up as you would like them to be. Return to the lobby and now select Lobby Options. Configure options within each sub-menu screen as follows:
Session Options
- Maximum Players > 2
- Practice > None
- Qualifying > None
- Race Distance > 3 Laps
- Starting Grid > Random
- Weather > Clear
Race Settings
- Car Performance > Equal
- Parc Ferme Rules > Off
- Vehicle Damage > Off
- Collisions > On
- Return To Garage > Off
Driving Proficiency
- Braking Assist > Allowed
- Traction Control > Allowed
- Automatic Gearbox > Allowed
- Pit Assist > Allowed
- Dynamic Racing Line > Allowed
I recommend that you save these settings by pressing so you can easily load them in future sessions, otherwise you will need to reconfigure each time you create a new lobby.
Return to the main Custom Lobby screen, and press to enter the Track Select screen. Select the Custom Season option, and then press to edit the track listing, and press again to remove all tracks. Now you can scroll through all circuits on the calendar and build up your preferred choice of tracks. If you have been following this walkthrough closely up to this point, it is likely you will not yet have completed 500 laps on European circuits yet, so they should take focus. On this basis, select the following circuits (by pressing to Add Track) for an initial short season:
- Spain
- Monaco
- Austria
- Hungary
- Italy
Now, back at the Custom Lobby screen, choose the Invite Friends option and bring your boosting partner into the lobby. Once you are both in the lobby, select your preferred cars and choose Ready from the menu, then the season will begin. Agree to trade wins for each of the five races, such that one of you wins three times and the other twice.
After either the first or second race (assuming you are yet to win an online race previously) you will unlock both...
Three of a KindYou've won a race in Quick Race, Championship Season and Multiplayer mode.
At some point during or at the end of this custom season, you will also unlock...
Number 5You have completed 5 races online.
And finally, by trading wins, you will both end up with a total of at least 100 points (25+18+25+18+25 = 111 points or 18+25+18+25+18 = 104 points), to unlock...
Boiling PointYou have reached 100 points in an online championship.
What remains is grinding out a total of 25 and then 50 races online along the way to 500 laps on European circuits. You can simply repeat the short season defined above, or if you wish, add the remaining European tracks to lengthen the season by a few more races. Either way, keep the race count ticking over until you have unlocked both...
If you still have not yet hit 500 laps on European circuits, but have followed the walkthrough closely and in order up to this point, then you will be very close (at ~480 laps, probably more). You can stop multiplayer here to save a little bit of time if you intend to pursue 78 laps on Monaco in Pro Season mode, but you can very easily run a handful more multiplayer races to unlock in short time...
