4. Far Cry 3 Miscellaneous & CollectiblesUpdate notes

Due to being a rather large game and involving a bit of exploring encouraged outside the main missions there are many things to do as well as many ways to go about them. This page is a pointer to all achievements that can be gained while outside mission (Some can be done in missions as well).

CRAFTING

While free roaming, you will encounter lots of wildlife and that is pretty good since most animals will grant you the opportunity to upgrade your equipment. After fulfilling the requirements to upgrade five things, you will unlock 'Artsy Craftsy'. I recommend upgrading as soon as possible since your wallet or ammunition packs are small at the start of the game. Should unlock:

While free roaming, you will also encounter lots of herbs which can help you during some missions. I recommend picking up a lot of the Green Leaves (that's how they appear on your minimap), since those will help you heal once you're wounded. Should come with natural progression towards other achievements while surviving the Rook Islands.
After crafting 25 syringes, you will unlock:

You will also need to craft at least one Deep Dive syringe because there is an achievement for diving 60 meters. The crafting is quite simple: pick up a few blue leaves and you're done but the location might seem a pain. You will want to lock for a dark blue part of the ocean since that indicates that the water is deeper. The best location to do this might be X = 681.9 and Y = 464.8, just keep diving after you have injected yourself until the following achievement pops. Should get:

After collecting 30 relics (more information below), you will have unlocked a recipe for a special syringe (Untouchable). Go grab the herbs you need (2 White Leaves, 5 Green Leaves and 5 Blue Leaves) and after using the menu to craft this, you'll unlock 'The Good Stuff'. This is quite far in the game and it requires you to explore the Rook Islands a bit.
When above is done you should get:

OUTPOSTS

While free roaming and clearing outposts, you might unlock the following achievements as well. Remember that all outposts can be cleared at any point in the game, but you will need to get to the second island to do the last ones. These can be found on the map by hitting the Back button and finding a symbol in the middle of a red area (Teleport to nearest safe zone for easy travelling). After clearing an outpost, the area will be patrolled by Rakyat Warriors and the enemy will never try to win the outpost again.

For one achievement, you will need to take out the enemies without them calling in for help. When an alarm sounds, you are too late and reinforcements will arrive so to get this achievement, it's better to shutdown the alarm. They appear on your minimap as a small speaker-icon. Weapons with a suppressor, the bow or the knife can be used to take out enemies stealthily. If you disabled the alarm, it's okay to be spotted by the enemies in the camp but for the Fully Inked achievement you need to liberate two outposts undetected.

The destruction of the alarm is not recommended on most outposts as there are a lot of guards patrolling near them, ruining a stealth run through. Suppressors are a late game attachment so either shoot the latch off an animal cage if there is one while patrol guards aren't looking or use the knife takedowns to penetrate the base. Guards on rooftops or in elevated positions are priorities and should be taken out beforehand. Remember if you fail that you can die and start it again from an area very close to the outpost or use the menu option to repopulate the outpost with pirates. Finally the camera can show most positions of enemies if they are marked so use this to track enemy movements.

For the final island outposts there are a much more varied group of enemies and a sniper rifle with a high powered scope plus suppressor will go a long way. There are usually up to 3 alarms in a base so be so sure you can get them all, also be prepared for the Rambo tactics when they get alerted. Finally headshots will down flamethrower or PKM dudes much quicker with the final unlockable sniper rifle.

Either way, after dispatching all enemies, the outpost will be liberated and as a bonus you will receive more EXP if you didn't get detected. The video below shows you how to get the 'Unheard'-achievement.

500All enemies dispatched (non-stealthy)
550All enemies dispatched with no alarm activated (which means that no reinforcements came).
1500All enemies dispatched without being detected by any enemy. Animals do not count.

Should unlock:

Two silent outpost liberation EXP bonuses will unlock an ability to be purchased with skill points to get progress towards the 'Fully Inked' achievement. After the third outpost liberation from pirate occupation you will unlock:

After liberating both islands of enemy held outposts (Before story completion so as not to be harassed too heavily by the second island's occupants) you will earn:

SKILL TREE

The skill tree in this game branches off into three distinctive traits which are The Heron, Shark and Spider, which allow additional skills to be unlocked making you be a better warrior. The XP gained goes up per level and gaining these levels earns skill points to be spent on whatever fits your play style. Just from campaign you should be close, but if not ensure before you do the final mission to do unique takedown kills for large XP gains. Finally side quests, collectibles and outposts garner large amounts as well.

There will be some extra challenges to unlock the ability to use skill points on certain skills:

- Purchase 3 armour items: Can be done at any safehouse or store just purchase one and get damaged then purchase another. Rinse and repeat.
- 10 Mounted gun kills: Can be done easily during the campaign otherwise use the Rakyat Trial on the second island near a bunker.
- 2 Outposts neutralised silently: As outlined in the Outpost section above, follow it to get the hardest requirement done.
- Takedown from above: During the main missions opportunities will represent themselves just keep an eye out for them. Best bet is the one that involves stealthily penetrating a camp after being thrown down a hole. Just proceed quietly taking down only 3 enemies up to this point (Last two can be taken down with double melee for bonus XP). Approach the ledge on the right then jump down and perform an airkill on the patrolling guard.
- Takedown from below: Can be gained when penetrating a secret bunker during the campaign; ensure that the ability to take down from below is bought with skill points before mission start. When you come to an area with the first of Vaas pirates, note one patrolling near a ledge. Swim underwater to avoid detection and when climbing the ledge follow the prompts onscreen for a ledge takedown.
- Standard takedown/melee kills: Simply click in the right thumbstick when near an enemy more often than not this will be a takedown kill, which is seen as an XP reward on screen.
Spend $500 in stores: Can be down when working on the $5,000 spent in shops; below you can find some more information.
- Craft 10 Syringes: Works with crafting achievements, combine them (more information below)
- Collect 5 Relics: Also achievement related, combine with relic hunting achievement.
- Kill a Bull Shark: Made easier with a Path of the Hunter quest on one of the job boards which will provide a bow and arrow to use. Simply bait the normal sharks by swimming around then dash back to the platform to pick them off. Skin for needed upgrades.
After completing a Path of The Hunter quest, you will earn:

You will also unlock:

- Loot 10 bodies: Hold X when a body is highlighted and you should loot it, again natural progression can be made.
- 5 Grenade Kills: Press or hold RB button to throw/cook grenades, should come naturally.
- 10 Handgun Kills: Again should come with natural progression, equip pistol in weapons slots. Use headshots for maximum effect.
- 3 Wanted Dead Quests: These are found on the job boards outside Rakyat controlled outposts just start one up by pressing the button prompts. Then drive over to the location and machete the captain in 3 of these side quests.

After completing one, you will unlock:

- 3 Supply Drops: Once a radar tower has been activated there will be a vehicle with a blue Cross above it use these vehicles and make it through the waypoints within the time limit. Most aren't hard although stick to vehicles you can drive confidently (Not the supply truck!).

Again, after completing one, you will pop:

- 3 Attachments Bought: Can be for any gun but it can be combined with another achievement.

Once all skill requirements are met and all have been purchased using skill points; the achievement should unlock for 5 unlocked skills:

And finally after purchasing everything with XP:

COLLECTABLES

Simply buy up the relevant maps on both islands and just pick them up as you go about other achievements and quests. Note some have underwater entrances marked by blue lines on the map and a line of underwater plants on your mini map. Dead Letters unlike Relics are hidden in WWII ruins for the most part although two require climbing down shafts using vines and recovering them. Look for shrivelled up skeletons and hidden entrances which look slightly cracked these can blown up to get the relics. Some might be hard to find, so use the video below if you are having problems.

At some point after chasing after the remaining ones both of these should pop:

After you have earned the role of Island Liberator, you should have busted into each safehouse at each outpost so you might find some laptops containing memory cards. Not all safehouses contain these, so use your store bought map to locate them to earn your last collectible-related achievement. Again, if you have problems locating them, use the video below.

STORE

The store menu is something accessed through sellers or the safehouse vendor this is where weapons are equipped and purchased. Upgrades and custom skins are also found here. Consumables such as syringes, armour and ammunition are to be found in their respective menus. The first achievement you can go for is "Aftermarket Junkie", as you progress through the campaign find a weapon you prefer and spend money on attachments. Custom skins must all be purchased and are a waste of money early on when its needed the most, just find your favourite gun eventually you will have a few fully bought up guns. Otherwise use the following:

The M1911 pistol is widely considered the best for this achievement as it costs the least to fully upgrade with a cost of $1,200 all up. So loot away during the early part of the story to gain a quick cold $1,200 cash. Note that you can only carry $1,000 in the beginning to it might be better to upgrade your wallet (skin the needed animals to do so). Buy all upgrades and custom skins to gain:

You should keep spending your money on ammunition, maps and weapon upgrades to unlock the following achievement:

After having climbed up the first few radio towers you should have the repair tool available for free. Equip it along with an assault rifle, leave the safehouse/store and find a vehicle. Drive it around until you find some island occupiers and weaken them with the assault rifle then try to follow up with the repair tool to get:

I left the 70m bow and arrow shot for the last island as the enemies won't engage you unless you get too close to the outposts which you won't do while going for this achievement. This island has plenty of hills, simply find a convenient outpost near a hill, remember you need grenades to craft explosive arrow tips. Assign them to whatever D-Pad direction you feel comfortable with and equip them with said direction. Now aim into the outpost and HOLD RT (To get the maximum pull) then loose. Further advice is to place waypoint on the outpost and make sure the navigation beacon says 70 metres away or more. Make sure that you mark the enemies with the camera to know their position's. Marksmen attachment is a must and a badass skin seals the deal.
Rinse and repeat by running into the outpost and getting shot (Should respawn nearby) until this shows up:

MISCELLANEOUS

The first achievement you might pop, might be one for luring and killing a predator. Luckily, you don't really have to lure him since they will straight up run towards you. The most frequent animals are the dogs often found defending bases; but tigers, Komodo Dragons, sharks etc. will do the trick as well.

Should unlock after it damages you and you kill it:

*Just be sure to interact with it using the X-button to skin for upgrades.

As you progress through the game all vehicles you drive, plants you pick, animals you kill, locations you find and enemies you face will all add up in a journal. Simply progressing other achievements will net you this:

There are many ways to get this most of the time the opportunities are gained in main missions, for example in Mission 22: Ambush you get the chance to RPG an escort which can net the 'Love The Boom'-achievement. Otherwise keep an eye out for a chance to do this and keep a grenade at the ready. The caves early on in the main missions always cause enemies to bunch up just frag your way through the caves to find Liza and you will get this earlier perhaps. Should get:

There will be a mission that involves burning marijuana fields with a flamethrower to annoy Hoyt during the 1st island's missions, this is a good point to accumulate a good number of kills. Just point the barrel and hold onto the trigger until they are lit up like a candle on the 4th of July, just use it during outpost occupation or while roaming the islands to net 'Heartless Pyro'. Make sure you get your flame resistant injection before going all Pyro on them pirate's arses and also a short burst of flames is enough to set them on fire. Don't spray the enemies until they die.
This should unlock:

Good 'ol Buck will want you to go down into some caves filled with conveniently placed pirates around some ziplines, make sure you have takedown from above before going through Buck's merry puzzle hunt. Upon entering a section of said caves you will see said ziplines, ignore all safety guidelines at this point. Attach yourself to the zipline and once at the other side let go as usual followed by the takedown prompt, this will lead to skewered pirates hopefully. Otherwise die and try again, there are plenty of ziplines and pirates standing under them.
Doing this successfully will earn you:

Earlier, you will recall clambering up your first radio tower and getting a sweet view before ziplining down, this should have revealed a Trial of the Rakyat. This one involves a pistol and a bunch of pirates begging for a knife takedown, after finding the red rock near the tower you can activate it to start the challenge. Simply sneak around picking off with your knife the first few pirates until the pirates are alerted at which point find cover and use headshots until the time runs out. The knife takedowns should have gained you enough points to gain:

While freeroaming the first island, you will get to a beach (coordinates x=620; y=557). You can set custom marks by pressing the Back Button and pressing A once you reach the mentioned point. Once you are near the beach, you will see two bodies hanging and close to it on the beach, there will be a head. Interact with it using the X-button to get 'Say Hi To The Internet'.
Fun fact: The head is an easter egg, which is from Christopher Mintz-Plasse; who played McLovin' in the movie Superbad.

This should unlock:

*Earliest

During the 1st island occupation you should notice poker markers showing up on your big map (Back button) and there should be one near a safehouse. Deactivate all markers except safehouses and poker to find them, then after saving go race to the poker place. Make sure you have some cash on hand (more than 1 grand should be sufficient) and enter the stakes. Now go all in and either you win so rinse and repeat. Or you lose and you quit out to the main menu and go from the top until successful. Shouldn't take long after a few successful all ins you should get:

*Alternate solution for later in the game

When you reach the second island, you will have the chance to do the Father's Burden side-mission closesly to Thurston Town. Once you accept the mission, you will have to follow the marker until you get to a poker table. Because of the mission it is nearly impossible to lose so pick the All-In option immediately. Win the two rounds and this achievement should pop. Also, you can quit out in the first round to make sure you win again when you start this side mission. Should get:
