The focus of this game is an interconnected world, that you get powerups, with the intent of traversing back to areas you've been before, to previously inaccessible areas that you can get to now using your powerups.

    Metroidvania 100%

Yeah, I totally agree...and not coerced into saying this at all.
    Yes, I know I am.

Yeah I would add Metroidvania genre to the already action-rpg and role playing genre tag.

I haven't played this yet, but from the Steam reviews:

Exploration in this game is done in a classic side-scrolling platform fashion: jumps have large air control capabilities, and in time double-jumps, dashes and other movement skill are unlocked. Many secret areas, concealed behind apparent map limits, are abundant and almost always lead to some additional key, piece of equipment, or just a lot of gold coins: many of them need abilities found only later on to be accessed, promoting "good" backtracking. The global map is divided into several sectors composed by a large number of rooms: before having the map layout players will need to find the actual area map, each hidden in that particular area, somewhere. There is one teleport in each sector, allowing fast travel from one to another once unlocked.

I'm playing this game currently and into the 2nd area. This is absolutely 100% a metroidvania, and a pretty good one at that.

It has all the hallmarks, an interconnected map, backtracking, ability gating, intense exploratory platforming...definitely a metroidvania

Having played a bit more - finished and in cleanup now, I'd have to add that I don't think the RPG genre tags fit this game. Apart from a very basic skill tree and the ability to equip equipment there's nothing else RPG about it. Zero dialogue or quests, no story to speak of apart from a token starting and closing custcene.

Platformer & metroidvania is a much better fit.

Further support for the Metroidvania tag:

Feudal Alloy is a pure dungeon exploration game with ability gating. It doesn’t get much more 'Metroidvania' than that.

Areas loop in on themselves creating shortcuts as new zones become available

Features: Map System, Skill Trees, Leveling System, Equipment System, 2D Platformer, Fast Travel/Teleporters, Sequence Breaking
They have it as a 'perfect fit', one of the purest Metroidvanias on Xbox

Metroidvania is a for sure, but I've only seen one person so far challenge the RPG tag. Fitting tag, or not?

None of these things are clear cut - but - the closest games to RPG/metroidvanias on Xbox that I've played would be monster sanctuary and indivisible. Both clearly metroidvanias with strong RPG elements. Feudal Alloy, with no story and a ridiculously simple skill tree doesn't come close to being an RPG of any kind. The focus is on exploration, and platforming.
