Hunt 20: Shelled Obstruction (Darksteel - Rank IV)

This is available as soon as you reach the Archades. It's recommended to go for this hunt after finishing the Draklor Laboratory and reaching Balfonheim Port. (Even better if Reddas is in your party).

Petitioner Location

Homesick Man, Vint's ArmamentsArchades. It's in the Nilbasse area. He's located near the front of the shop.

Mark Location

Temptation Eluded, Sochen Cave Palace.

Fight

Video

  • Level: 38
  • HP: 111,331
  • Steal: Eye Drops (55%), Aged Turtle Shell (10%), Ancient Turtle Shell (3%)
  • Weaknesses: Holy-Magick does 200% damage

Darksteel is not too difficult to defeat. Use Dispel to remove its buffs. It will start attacking with Dark-based Magicks later on in the fight. You can cast Blind and Poison on it which will help make the fight even easier.

Return to the Homesick Man to receive your rewards.

Rewards

  • 3000 Gil
  • Adamantite
  • Lead Bolts

Hunt 21: Get My Stuff Back! (Vyraal - Rank V)

This Hunt can be completed after completing the story in Draklor Laboratory. You can pick up this Bill in the Whitecap tavern in the Port of Balfonheim.

Petitioner Location

Viera Wayfarer, the Whitecap, Port of Balfonheim. She is sitting on the windowsill on the far side of the bar.

Mark Location

Northsward, Cerobi Steppe.

Fight

Video

  • Level: 41
  • HP: 106,616
  • Steal: Spiral Incisor (55%), Charger Barding (10%), Leo Gem (3%)
  • Weaknesses: Wind-Magick does 200% damage

The Viera Wayfarer will join you and will assist during the fight. She will even buff your party members as well with Protect and Shell.

Make sure to use Dispel to remove Vyraal’s Haste buff, which it will automatically start the battle off with.

Vyraal will flee the battle once it’s HP gets too low. It will then recast Haste on itself and heal itself if it gets too far away. Use Dispel again, and reengage Vyraal to finish it off.

You will receive a Viera Rucksack once the battle is over. Return to the Whitecap and speak to the Viera Wayfarer again. She will take back the Rucksack and give you the rewards for completing this quest.

Rewards

  • 3500 Gil
  • Halberd
  • Crystal Shield

She will also give you a Dragon Scale that she finds in the bottom of the bag which is used to get to the Hell Wyrm.

Hunt 22: Old Legends, Decaying Bonds (Lindwyrm - Rank V)

This Hunt can be completed after completing the story in Draklor Laboratory. You can pick up this Bill in the Whitecap tavern in the Port of Balfonheim.

Petitioner Location

Fermon, Alley of Muted Sighs, Old Archades. He is surrounded by a group of followers.

Mark Location

Garden of Life's Circle, Tchita Uplands. It will only appear during the right type of weather - specifically when the sky is fully covered with clouds. It will not appear when it is raining or sunny. You will need to leave Tchita Uplands completely to reset the weather if it's sunny. Head to the Phon Coast, for example. If it's raining when you get to the Garden of Life's Circle, exit and reenter the area until it's overcast and not raining.

Fight

Video

  • Level: 39
  • HP: 228,468
  • Steal: Pebble (55%), Ring Wyrm Scale (10%), Ring Wyrm Liver (3%)
  • Weaknesses: Wind-Magick does 200% damage

Lindwyrm is susceptible to Blind and Silence, so you should keep those debuffs on it for the duration of the fight. Equip yourself with accessories that will negate Petrify and Sleep, such as Nishijin Belt and Fuzzy Miter and prepare your party with the standard assortment of buffs.

Lindwyrm will use a move called Great Barrier on itself once it falls below 50% HP. Great Barrier will recast Protect and Shell and heal the dragon back up to around 75% of its HP. It will do the same thing around 25% HP, so be prepared for a long and drawn out fight. Its defense will also increase once its HP gets low and it will begin chaining attacks together.

You will receive a Rusted Scrap of Armor once the battle is over. Return to Fermon to receive your rewards.

Rewards

  • 4200 Gil
  • Barrel Coat
  • Hi-Ether

Hunt 23: The Things We Do... (Overlord - Rank VI)

This Hunt can be completed after completing the story in Draklor Laboratory. You can pick up this Bill in the Whitecap tavern in the Port of Balfonheim.

Petitioner Location

Insecure Seeq, who is hiding at the back of Bulward’s Technicks, in the Molberry zone of Archades.

Mark Location

Doubt Abandoned, Sochen Cave Palace.

Fight

Video

  • Level: 42
  • HP: 64,325
  • Steal: Forbidden Flesh (55%), Fire Crystal (10%), Gemini Gem (3%)
  • Weaknesses: Water-Magick does 200% damage

The Insecure Seeq will join you for the fight but will fall quickly due to being vulnerable to Fire-Magicks. Don't buff him with Bubble, as he's immune to it.

Use Dispel on the Overlord, as he does a lot of damage that is only increased with its Bravery buff. Try and spread your party around, as it's Pyromania attack is an Area of Effect attack.

Overlord is weak to Blind and Slow. The aim is to kill the Overlord quickly.

Despite the Insecure Seeq falling in battle, he'll be back at Bulward's Technicks for you to claim your rewards.

Rewards

  • 3500 Gil
  • Hi-Ethers (x2)
  • Teleport Stone

Hunt 24: The Creature Collector (Goliath - Rank VI)

This Hunt can be completed after completing the story in Draklor Laboratory. You can pick up this Bill in the Whitecap tavern in the Port of Balfonheim.

Petitioner Location

Barrong, West Ward, Nalbina Fortress. He'll be hiding in a corner, to the left of the staircase leading up to the Aerodrome.

Mark Location

Before venturing off to find Goliath, make sure that you purchased an Opal Ring from the Leapin’ Bangaa in the Port of Balfonheim.

Goliath is in the Hall of Slumbering Might, Necohol of Nabudis. The easiest way to get there is from the Nabreus Deadlands. Assuming you've already been to the Nabreus Deadlands, warp there. From Succor Midst Sorrow, head north into the Lifeless Strand and follow the pathway around to the Field of the Fallen Lord. Continue east until you reach the Necrohol of Nabudis. Goliath is right around the corner to the left. You may want to clear out some of the surrounding Baknamy enemies as they can cause havoc if they spot you and attack you during the middle of the fight. You can avoid the traps by casting Float Magick.

Fight

Video

  • Level: 47
  • HP: 224,294
  • Steal: Holy Magicite (55%), Iron Ore (10%), Holy Crystal (3%)
  • Weaknesses: Dark-Magick does 200% damage

Goliath will cast an anti-Magick shield on itself at the beginning of the fight, negating any Magick attacks made against it. It will then pummel your party with Magick attacks, including Graviga, Gravity, Aeroga, etc. The easiest tactic to use to defeat Goliath is to cast Reflect on all of your characters (or equip them with armor/accessories that automatically cast Reflect) to heavily reduce the amount of damage that Goliath can do.

Equip your healer with the Opal Ring that you purchased at the Port of Balfonheim. This will allow that person to cast healing spells that ignore Reflect

The rest of the fight becomes a fairly straightforward battle against an enemy with a ton of HP.

Note: Don’t leave the Necrohol of Nabudis if you are completing this Hunt at the same time as Hunt 25: Dead City Watch (Deathscythe – Rank VI).

Return to Barrong once you have defeated Goliath.

Rewards

  • 3600 Gil
  • Save the Queen
  • Einherjarium

This is one of the five Hunts required to complete the Jovy side quest.

Hunt 25: Dead City Watch (Deathscythe – Rank VI)

This Hunt can be completed any time after you have completed the Draklor Laboratory after going through the Imperial City of Archades. The Bill first becomes available in the Whitecap tavern in the Port of Balfonheim. It is easy to complete at the same time as Hunt 24: The Creature Collector (Goliath – Rank VI).

Petitioner Location

Popol, Jajim Bazaar, Nalbina Fortress. He's sitting in a stall.

Mark Location

Deathscythe is located further into the Necrohol of Nabudis than Goliath, in the Cloister of the Highborn. Assuming you are close to where Goliath is located or if you just defeated Goliath in the Hall of the Slumbering Might, travel through the room into the Hall of the Ivory Covenant, through that room and into the Cloister of the Highborn.

You need to reduce one of your character’s health to less than 10% HP and Deathscythe will appear close to that party member. You do not have to enter the Cloister of the Highborn with a party member already at less than 10% HP.

You can do this by pressing cn_A, selecting Attack and then pressing cn_LB to shift from enemy targets to friendly targets. Confirm the action by pressing cn_A again and the character will attack themselves one time. Be careful not to accidentally kill yourself and use Potions if you have to in order to get the HP percentage correct.

Disable your Gambits to prevent your healer from healing them back up while you are dropping their HP intentionally.

Fight

Video

  • Level: 44
  • HP: 125,601
  • Steal: Book of Orgain-Mille (55%), Book of Orgain (10%), Capricorn Gem (3%)
  • Weaknesses: Holy-Magick does 200% damage

The first thing that you should do after Deathscythe appears is to heal up the character that you dropped to less than 10% HP. Reenable your healing Gambits.

Deathscythe will cast Darkga, which is Dark-based Magick, to your party members. It will also cast Doom and Death. Doom will kill your party member after 10 seconds whereas Death is just an instant-death. It will also use a move called Annul which will reduce a party member’s MP down to 0.

Deathscythe will also cast a Paling around itself once it reaches less than 50% of its HP which will temporarily make it immune to physical attacks. The Paling lasts for approximately 2 minutes. Just keep your party alive until it wears off or use Magick attacks to do damage.

This battle tends to be about outlasting Deathscythe while dealing with all of its attacks. MP may become an issue part way through the fight, and it will increase its attack power and defensive power once its HP goes below 20%.

Once you've killed Deathscythe, return to Nalbina Fortress for your reward.

Rewards

  • 2,800 Gil
  • Hi-Ethers (x2)
  • Soul of Thamasa

This is one of the five Hunt required to complete the Jovy side quest.

Hunt 26: Visitor on Deck (Deathgaze - Rank VII)

This hunt becomes available any time after you have completed the story Ancient City of Giruvegan and the Great Crystal. You should return to Balfonheim to speak to Reddas and have him join your party before starting this hunt.

Petitioner Location

The Bill lists the petitioner as a Traveler who frequents the Aerodromes across Ivalice. When you approach the young child, he will be listed as Traveler, but the name changes to Son once you speak to him. He and his family can be found in all of the Aerodrome ports of Ivalice.

Mark Location

The Son will tell you that he saw a Wyrm on the deck of one of the Airships, but his family does not believe him. Once you have initiated the Hunt, you now have a chance of running into Deathgaze any time to take an Airship from one location to the next.

Speak to the on each time you arrive at any Aerodrome (even if you have already been to it) and the chances of you encountering Deathgaze will double:

  • The first time you speak to the Son: 4% chance of encountering Deathgaze
  • Second: 8%
  • Third: 16%
  • Fourth: 32%
  • Fifth: 64%

The chances of encountering Deathgaze will never go higher than 64%, and you must speak with the Son each time you arrive at an Aerodrome after riding an Airship in order for the odds to improve.

When the Deathgaze has been spotted, you'll have an interaction upon boarding the Airship. You'll need to go to the outside of the Airship to fight it.

Fight

Video

  • Level: 50
  • HP: 184,000
  • Steal: Phoenix Down (55%), Charger Barding (10%), Emperor Scale (3%)
  • Weaknesses: Earth element does 200% damage

Deathgaze will hit you with a plethora of negative status effects and its most devastating attacks are all Magick-based. Deathgaze is susceptible to Silence, so ensure you inflict that. It's also weak to Sap, so cast Bio on it. Bubble, aside from increasing each party member’s maximum HP, will also prevent the Disease status which Deathgaze is capable of inflicting, so ensure that is on all party members.

Deathgaze’s regular attacks are fairly powerful and its Crushing Fangs attack may instantly KO a character, so be prepared to have to revive party members.

Speak to the Boy in whichever Aerodrome you land to receive your rewards.

Rewards

  • 3400 Gil
  • Elixirs (x2)

You'll also get an achievement for killing Deathscythe.

Eagle Eye

Defeated Deathgaze.

Hunt 27: The Child Snatcher (Diabolos – Rank VII)

This hunt becomes available any time after you have completed the story Ancient City of Giruvegan and the Great Crystal. You should return to Balfonheim to speak to Reddas and have him join your party before starting this hunt.

Petitioner Location

Miclio, who is in Miner’s End, Bhujerba

Mark Location

You will require the Site 11 Key for the Lhusu Mines. This can be obtained at Hunter’s Camp in the Phon Coast after completing Hunt 38: Antlion Infestation (Antlion - Rank V). At the end of Hunt 38, the kids will drop a key down below which then appears in the Hunter’s Camp next to the Fallen Bhujerban. The map below shows the location of this key.

Phon Coast Site 11 Key

Warp into the Lhusu Mines orange Save Crystal. Head west through the Tasche Span and into Site 9. Head south and follow the pathway, turning right when you can and approaching the large gate. Use the Site 11 Key on the gate and proceed through. Diabolos is located just to the west of where you enter.

Fight

Video

  • Level: 46
  • HP: 93,551
  • Steal: Fire Crystal (55%), Demon’s Sigh (10%), Scorpio Gem (3%)
  • Weaknesses: Water-Magick does 200% damage

Diabolos is a fairly intense enemy to kill. Once it's HP falls below 60%, it will begin building an auto-counter barrier and will counter all of your attacks. So you want to be quick with this fight. Diabolos is susceptible to Slow, and as always, use Dispel on him.

One of the Diabolos’ moves is called Curse. It can inflict the Poison, Disease, Sap and Confuse status effects on all party members. Equip your party members with a Bowline Sash to prevent the Confuse status effect, and set up Remedy Gambits (rather than Esuna Gambits as Remedy is faster to use) to deal with the other status effects.

Make sure that your party is fully buffed before you begin the fight. Bubble, specifically, will prevent the Disease status effect from taking hold. Spread your party members out to ensure that as few of them as possible are hit by Pyromania, an extremely powerful Fire-based Magick spell.

Head back to Bhujerba, and speak to Miclio when you are finished.

Rewards

  • 2600 Gil
  • Demon Shield
  • Zeus Mace

Hunt 28: The Black Sorcerer (Piscodaemon – Rank V)

This hunt becomes available any time after you have completed the story Ancient City of Giruvegan and the Great Crystal. You should return to Balfonheim to speak to Reddas and have him join your party before starting this hunt.

Petitioner Location

Ivaness is located at the top of Mt Bur-Omisace just outside of the ruined Temple.

Mark Location

Gate of Fire, Giruvegan. Piscodaemon is located on the west side of this area. You should take efforts to defeat as many of the surrounding enemies as you can before engaging.

Fight

Video

  • Level: 46
  • HP: 49,660
  • Steal: Potion (55%), Reflectga Mote (10%), White Robes (3%)
  • Weaknesses: None. All elemental damage is halved.

Equip your characters with Black Belts to deal with Disable that can be caused by Piscodaemon’s Pulsar Wave attack. Keep Bubble active for the duration of the fight to prevent Disease from taking hold. Shell can be used to mitigate some of the magick damage.

All of Piscodaemon’s attacks are Dark-based Magick, so equip any equipment that you might have that has a resistance to Dark. Aside from that, the battle is straightforward. Try not to move around too much to avoid having any of the nearby enemies join the fight.

Return to Ivaness at the top of Mt Bur-Omisace to receive your rewards.

Rewards

  • 3800 Gil
  • Dark Shot
  • Scathe Mote

Hunt 29: A Wild Stench (Wild Malboro – Rank VI)

This hunt becomes available any time after you have completed the story Ancient City of Giruvegan and the Great Crystal. You should return to Balfonheim to speak to Reddas and have him join your party before starting this hunt.

Petitioner Location

Rena can be found in the western section of The Spiritwood, Eruyt Village

Mark Location

Redolent Glade, the Feywood (which is where you initially fought Rafflesia).

Fight

Video

  • Level: 50
  • HP: 110,842
  • Steal: Malboro Flower (55%), Foul Liquid (10%), Virgo Gem (3%)
  • Weaknesses: Wind-Magick does 200% damage

Wild Malboro will begin the battle with three additional Malboro enemies. Have your Black Mage buffed with Faith, and then cast Aeroga. This should kill the additional Malboros. If not, cast it again.

Critical spells that you should come in with are Protect, Shell, Bubble, Bravery, Haste, and Faith.

Equip all of your characters with accessories that will prevent some status effects, such as Black Belts or Bowline Sash. Use Dispel on Wild Malboro once all of the smaller Malboros are defeated to remove its beneficial status effects. You can also use Remedies or Esuna to get rid of status effects.

Return to Rena in Eruyt Village to obtain the rewards.

Rewards

  • 4600 Gil
  • Euclid’s Sextant
