Optional Bosses
While not technically optional if you want 100% completion, these are bosses that you wouldn't face during the main story.
Earth Tyrant - Dalmasca Westersand - Wyrm's Nest
The Earth Tyrant can be defeated once the party has completed the events on the Shiva. However, it's a good idea to wait until your party is above level 30.
There's a whole side quest that needs to be completed in order to fight the Earth Tyrant. Start off by going to Rabanastre's West Gate, and look for a Bangaa called Rimzat. Agree to help him and then head to the Southern Plaza. Find a man sitting on the fountain called Cotze. Speak to him. You'll then need to go to Lowtown's Northern Sprawl and find a man called Northon. He's sitting on the floor, next to a red Bangaa, just south of the entrance to Garamsythe Waterway. He'll tell you that you need to find his half of the Windvane that's buried under a Dynast-Cactus in the Westersand.
Head to the Windtrace Dunes, via the Shimmering Horizons. Search the Dynast-Cactuses on the southern wall to find the Wind Globe. Head back to Rabanastre. You'll find Rimzat, Cotze, and Northon together at the Westgate. Speak to Rizmat, and Northon will give you the Windvane key item. This will allow you to get to the Wyrm's Nest. Now you're able to fight the Earth Tyrant.
Head to the Corridor of Sand, and just before entering the Wyrm's Nest, prepare your party with any buffs you have (Protect etc.) and prepare yourself for a battle.
King Bomb - Salikawood - Grand Bower
You need to defeat the King Bomb in order to access the Nabreus Deadlands and Necrohol of Nabudis. Start off in the Quietened Trace, and save your game. Then buff your party with any buffs you have (Protect, Shell, Haste) and then when you're ready, head into Grand Bower for the fight. Ensure you have a Gambit set up for Ally status = Oil > Handkerchief. King Bomb uses Fire Magick and can inflict Oil, which can be deadly to your party.
Hell Wyrm - Sochen Cave Palace - Hall of the Wroth God
There will be the assumption that you've already opened the Ascetic Door, and that you have access to all of the Magicks and Technicks in the game.
The Hell Wyrm is kind of a Yiazmat-lite. You want to be at least level 70 to tackle Hell Wyrm, and there are a few things you need to do before you can get to him. Try and get three White Masks (I found one, weirdly, to be enough) to make the fight easier.
Start off by completing Hunt 21: Get My Stuff Back! (Vyraal - Rank V). You should have a Dragon Scale in your Important Items. Then travel to the Northward area of the Cerobi Steppe and find Windmill #10. Examine this windmill for a cutscene. Give the Dragon Scale to the Wyrm Philosopher, and in return, you'll get the Ageworn Key.
Then travel to the Sochen Cave Palace, and go through the Ascetic Door. At the end of the path here is the Hall of the Ascetic Door. Before using the Ageworn Key on the door, it's time to prepare your party.
Buff them with all of the buffs - Protect, Shell, Haste, Bravery, Faith, Bubble, and Regen. This was my setup for the fight:
Knight/Bushi - Equipped with an Ultima Blade, White Mask and Bubble Belt. This was my primary attacker.
Foebreaker/Shikari - Equipped with a Scorpion Tail and Power Armlet.
White Mage/Time Battle Mage - for healing and support, equipped with Sage's Ring.
Gambits:
Knight | Foebreaker | White Mage |
Foe: any > Attack | Foe: any > Wither Foe: any > Expose Ally: any > Chronos Tear Ally: any > Gold Needle Foe: any > Attack | Ally: [Knight] > Decoy Ally: HP < 40% > Curaja Ally status = KO > Arise Ally: any > Esunaga Ally: Any > Protectga Ally: Any > Hastega Ally: [Knight] > Bravery Self: MP < 20% > Hi-Ether Foe: any > Attack |
You'll unlock an achievement for defeating Hell Wym, and Montblanc will reward you with 50000 Gil. You also need to defeat Hell Wyrm in order to fight Yiazmat.
In this room is a chest that contains the Zodiac Escutcheon. It only has a 1% chance of appearing, so leaving and reentering the area is going to be needed in order to spawn the chest.
Omega Mark XII - The Great Crystal - Dhebon Jilaam Avaa
Omega Mark XII is considered the hardest boss in the "story game". The only harder fight is Trial 100. Omega can be found in Dhebon Jilaam Avaa of the Great Crystal.
There is the assumption that you've already defeated Ultima, and have access to all of the Magicks and Technicks in the game. You want to have 3 Bubble Belts. You want to be around level 77 to complete this battle. There is also an assumption that, in the Great Crystal, you have activated the Way Stones between A Vikaari Kanbhru Ra (XX) and Dha Vikaari Dhebon Ra (XIX).
This is the route you want to take to get to Omega Mark XII:
- From A Prama Vikaari, go to A Vikaari Dhebon.
- Use Way Stone IX to go to Way Stone X at Da Vikaari Kabonii.
- Go to A Vikaari Kanbhru Ra, and use Way Stone XX to go to Way Stone XIX at Dha Vikaari Dhebon Ra.
- Go to Kabbhru Pis (where the Save Crystal is), then head to Dha Vikaari Uldobi.
- Use Way Stone XVIII to go to Way Stone XVII at A Vikaari Kanhbru.
- Go down to Uldobi Jilaam Avaa.
- Then (depending on which Virgo Gate is open) either go straight to Uldobi Jilaam Praa'vaa, or go via Uldobi Jilaam Pratii'vaa and Sthanna Libra.
- Head to Uldobi Jilaam Praa, and then head to Sthanna Capricorn.
- Interact with the Capricorn Gate, and then take this route: Uldobi Jilaam Praa > Uldobi Jilaam Praa'vaa, Sthanna Libra (Ignore the Gate Switch) > Uldobi Jilaam Pratii'vaa > Uldobi Jilaam Pratii. Touch the Capricorn Gate here.
- Then head to Uldobi Jilaam Avaa.
- Go to A Vikaari Kanbhru and use Way Stone XVII to go to Way Stone XVIII in Dha Vikaari Uldobi.
- Go up to Sthaana Aquarius and interact with the Gate Switch.
- Travel back to Dha Vikaari Uldobi and use Way Ston XVIII to go to Way Stone XVII at Uldobi Jilaam Avaa.
- Then (depending on which Virgo Gate is open) either go straight to Uldobi Jilaam Praa'vaa, or go via Uldobi Jilaam Pratii'vaa and Sthanna Libra.
- Go to Uldobi Jilaam Praa and then touch the Aquarius Gate.
- Head into Sthanna Taurus and interact with the Gate Switch.
- Then head back to Uldobi Jilaam Pratii, using this route: Uldobi Jilaam Praa > Uldobi Jilaam Praa'vaa, Sthanna Libra (Ignore the Gate Switch) > Uldobi Jilaam Pratii'vaa > Uldobi Jilaam Pratii. Touch Taurus Gate 1 here. The correct gate will be on the path opposite to the one you entered.
- Go down to Dha Vikaari Sirhru Si and interact with Way Stone XXI to go to Way Stone XXII at A Vikaari Uldobi Si.
- Go to Dha Vikaari Dhebon Si and interact with Way Stone XXIII to go to Way Stone XXIV at A Vikaari Sirhru Si.
Omega Mark XII is found in the next area. There are a few methods that can be used to take down Omega Mark XII, but I will list the one I used and found to be the most effective. It's basically a Brute Force Method. The idea is that you use a Foebreaker to use Wither until you make Omega's damage be as small as possible. You then use Expose to lower Omega's defense, making your attacks more powerful.
This was my setup for a party of level 77s:
Knight/Bushi - Equipped with an Ultima Blade and Bubble Belt. This was my primary attacker.
Foebreaker/Shikari - Equipped with a Scorpion Tail and Bubble Belt.
White Mage/Time Battle Mage - for healing and support, equipped with a Bubble Belt.
Gambits:
Knight | Foebreaker | White Mage |
Foe: any > Attack | Foe: any > Wither Foe: any > Expose Foe: any > Attack | Ally: [Knight] > Decoy Ally: HP < 40% > Curaja Ally status = KO > Arise Ally: Any > Protectga Ally: Any > Hastega Ally: [Knight] > Bravery Self: MP < 20% > Hi-Ether Foe: any > Attack |
For defeating Omega Mark XII, you'll get the Omega Badge, which is needed to create the Wyrmhero Blade. This will also probably be the last enemy you need to complete the Bestiary.
