Starting from your entrance into the Great Crystal, at A Prama Vikaari, this is the route you'll want to take:
A Prama Vikaari > Sthaana Scorpio > Interact with the Scorpio Gate Stone > A Prama Vikaari > Interact with the Scorpio Gate > A Vikaari Dhebon. Take Way Stone IX to Way Stone X at Dha Vikaari Kabonii. Head up to A Vikaari Kanbhru Ra.
You're now going to spawn the Crystal Knight. You want to do a loop of this path (it needs to be clockwise):
- A Vikaari Kanbhru Ra > Dhebon Jilaam Praa'dii > Sthaana Sagittarius > Dhebon Jilaam Praatii'dii > A Vikaari Kanbhru Ra
The Crystal Knight will spawn in A Vikaari Kanbhru Ra at level 61-62. It's weak to Holy Magick. Once you've killed the Crystal Knight, go back to Sthanna Sagittarius. Interact with the Gate Stone, and at the top right of the screen, you'll be given a timer. You need to reach the correct gate before the timer runs out to remove the corresponding gate. Opening the map will pause your timer, so you can see where you are etc. It's also a good idea just to flee once you've initiated a Gate Stone, otherwise you will run out time.
Run straight back to A Vikaari Kanbhru Ra and then touch Gate Sagittarius I. This should allow you to get to A Vikaari Sirhru Pratii, to take Way Stone XII to Way Stone XIV in Dha Vikaari Dhebon Pratii. Head to Sthaana Leo and then go to Sirhru Phullam Pratii'vaa. Interact with Gate Leo I to remove it. The treasure chest with Shellga is here. Go back to Sthanna Leo.
Touch the Gate Stone again, and then you're going to run through the following areas: Dha Vikaari Dhebon Pratii > Sirhru Phullam Udiiprati > Sirhru Jilaam Pratii'dii > Sirhru Jilaam Pratii > Sirhru Pis Pratii > Sirhru Pis Avaa. Interact with Gate Leo II to remove it. Go back to Sirhru Jilaam Pratii and then up to Sirhru Jilaam Pratii'vaa. There's a treasure chest here with the Yagyu Darkblade.
Go back to Sirhru Pis Avaa, and then take either Sirhru Jilaam Avaapraa or Sirhru Jilaam Avaaprati up to A Vikaari Uldobi. Use Way Stone XV to go to Way Stone XVI at Dha Vikaari Sirhru.
Go up to Sthanna Libra and touch the Gate Stone. Run back to Dha Vikaari Sirhru and then to Uldobi Jilaam Praa’dii. Touch Gate Libra I to remove it. Go to Uldobi Jilaam Praa, and then down to Sthanna Capricorn. Touch the Gate Stone and then run through Uldobi Jilaam Praa to Uldobi Jilaam Praa’dii, then to Dha Vikaari Sirhru and then into Sthanna Virgo. Touch Gate Capricorn I to remove it.
Touch the Virgo Gate Stone, and then run back through Dha Vikaari Sirhru to Sthanna Libra and into Uldobi Jilaam Pratii’vaa. Go to Gate Virgo II and touch it to remove it. Head up to Uldobi Jilaam Avaa and into A Vikaari Kanbhru. Touch Way Stone XVIII to go to Way Stone XVIII in Dha Vikaari Uldobi. Head up to Kanbhru Pis and save your game.
Before heading up to the Crystal Peak where Ultima is, we're going to go and get Hastega. Look at all three routes you can take, the one you must not go up is the middle one. Look for the path on the left, and go up there. You'll end up at Sthanna Aquarius. Once you touch the Gate Stone here, you're going to need to be very quick. This is the route you need to take after touching the Gate Stone:
Kanbhru Pis > Dha Vikaari Uldobi > Touch the Way Stone > A Vikaari Kanbhru > Uldobi Jilaam Avaa > Uldobi Jilaam Pratii’vaa > Sthanna Libra > Dha Vikaari Sirhru > Uldobi Jilaam Praa’dii > Uldobi Jilaam Praa > Uldobi Phullam Praa'vaa. Touch Gate Aquarius I here.
Go back to Uldobi Jilaam Praa and go down to Sthanna Capricorn. Touch the Gate Stone and take this route: Uldobi Jilaam Praa > Uldobi Jilaam Praa’dii > Dha Vikaari Sirhru > Sthanna Libra > Uldobi Jilaam Pratii'vaa. Touch Gate Capicorn II to remove it. You then want to go all the way back to Uldobi Phullam Praa'vaa and go down to Sthaana Taurus.
Touch the Gate Stone and then take this route: Uldobi Jilaam Praa > Uldobi Jilaam Praa’dii > Dha Vikaari Sirhru > Sthanna Libra > Uldobi Jilaam Pratii'vaa > Uldobi Jilaam Pratii > Uldobi Phullam Pratii'vaa. Touch Gate Taurus II here. Proceed into Uldobi Phullam Pratii to collect Hastega in the treasure chest here.
That leaves the Artemis Bow and the Staff of the Magi to collect. You'll be able to pick up the Artemis Bow on your way to fighting Omega Mark XII.
That's pretty much everything you'll need to start your fight against Ultima, so make you're way back to Kanbhru Pis. When you get there save your game, and it's time to set up for the fight against Ultima.
Before taking on Ultima, there are a few things to take into consideration. The first is that when you damage Ultima, you will receive damage yourself. She has a few unique moves that will make this fight a challenge if you're not prepared. The second is that she will cast a Magick Barrier when she gets to 70% HP. This barrier will rotate every so often, and you'll be affected by one of the following:
- HP Drain – will slowly drain the HP of all of your party members (similar to Sap or Poison).
- MP Drain – will slowly drain the MP of your party members.
- No Attack – will prevent the Attack command from working.
- No Magick – will prevent the use of Magick spells.
- No Technicks – will prevent the Technicks command from working.
- No Items – will prevent the Items command from working.
- Gravity Field – will slow down time (similar to casting Slow on all party members).
When you can't attack, which to using Telekinesis to get around it. When you can't use Magick, ensure that your healer's gambits are switched to using Items. If your Healer starts running low on MP, if they can, use Syphon on another party member, or use Ethers.
Ensure that all of your active party is either equipped with a White Mask or Sage's Ring. Any member that can use a White Mask should have a Bubble Belt equipped, except for your Healer, who should have a White Mask and then equip an Opal Ring. This is because Ultima will eventually cast Reflectga on your party, and the Opal Ring will get around this. You'll also want to Dispel Reflect on your party, as Ultima will use it to heal herself.
She can also cast Reverse on your party, so be prepared to Dispel that too. Ensure that you keep Dispe-ing her too, as it'll mean she'll waste some time trying to buff herself.
Make sure that you don't have any weapons equipped that have Holy on them, as they will heal her.
When you're ready buff yourself with Protect, Shell, Faith, Bravery, Haste, Bubble, and Regen. Set up a Lure Gambit for your Tank too, as it gives a chance for Ultima to focus on attacking them instead of your whole party.
Ultima, the High Seraph
Upon defeating Ultima, you'll unlock:
Locked Licenses
Unlocking Ultima on the License Boards of the following jobs will unlock additional licenses:
- Archer: Infuse, 1000 Needles
- Black Mage: Telekinesis
- Bushi: Stamp
- Foebreaker: Swiftness
- Knight: Telekinesis, Battle Lore
- Machinist: Magick Lores (x3)
- Monk: Swiftness (x2)
- Red Battlemage: Greatswords 1, Greatswords 2
- Shikari: Phoenix Lores 2
- Time Battlemage: Swords 7, Swords 8
- Uhlan: Expose
The optimal choice is to make sure that all of your party members can activate all of the Swiftness nodes. Make sure to give Ultima to either your Monk or your Foebreaker if they do not have them. You can also give it to your Knight to make sure that it has Telekinesis if it does not.
Upon defeating Ultima, you'll be able to get Excalibur from the treasure chest there.
To leave the Crystal, go back to Kanbhru Pis, and then go up to Dha Vikaari Dhebon Ra. Interact with Way Stone XIX and then you'll be able to teleport to Way Stone XX at A Vikaari Kanbhru Ra. This connection will remain, allowing you to get to the top of the Great Crystal more easily for when you come back to fight Omega Mark XII (if you haven't already).
Now you'll be ready to go about taking on the final Esper in the game, Zodiark.
