3. Firefighters - The Simulation Vehicles, equipment and missionsUpdate notes

On this page I’ll go into more details about the vehicles you will drive, the equipment you will use and the missions you will undertake. Most of the information here is straight-forward but you can use this page as a reference if you get stuck.

VEHICLES:

Most vehicles have multiple storage points which carry assorted equipment. Excluding Florian 1, vehicles have a special feature such as a water cannon or extendible ladder. To access a special feature you need to be in the drivers seat, while stationary, and press cn_Y. Some features need to unfold or unload, so there may be a few seconds delay before you can use them. To use the special features listed below, you must first activate them in this way.

To drive any vehicle, approach either side front door and press cn_X when the prompt appears in the lower right corner. Pressing cn_X when stationary will get out of the vehicle. Use cn_RT to accelerate and cn_LT to reverse. Compartments and doors are opened and closed using cn_X. I drove around for days with all compartment doors open without any consequence, so it appears these are just cosmetic.

Remember that you must keep your vehicle refuelled but visiting a petrol station marked on the map with a blue icon. Simply park near the pump, then approach the pump for an cn_X prompt. Hold cn_X down and you will see a fuel gauge pop up. Keep holding cn_X as the gauge fills then disappears once full. The water refill points work in the same way.

Keep your vehicle clean by using the vehicle wash bay. There are two sprayers on the walls of the vehicle wash bay. Grab them with cn_up and spray with cn_RT. Vehicles don’t need to be spotless so a quick wash every now and then should suffice - you will receive notification during the morning briefing if they're too dirty.

FLORIAN 7

A ladder truck that seems very top-heavy and likely to flip over.

Drivers side:

Fire Hose cn_up

Traffic cones – cn_right

Passenger side:

Hazmat suit – cn_up

Special Feature: To use the extendible ladder, walk to the back of the truck and hit cn_Y to climb onto the ladder. Then walk along the ladder to the front of the vehicle and hit cn_Y again to get in the basket – don’t worry, you can’t fall off! cn_LS controls the movement of the ladder while the cn_LB and cn_RB extend or retract the ladder. The ladder can also be moved from inside the truck. You can ghost through walls and roofs so be careful not to manoeuvre up into the fire and injure yourself. Make sure to grab your fire hose and hazmat suit if required before getting on the ladder as there’s nothing stored up there. It’s best to retract the ladder and lower it to flat before getting out of the basket as you can sometimes get hung up whilst climbing down. Simply firing a hose from the basket earns:

FLORIAN 8

The top of the line in the station's fleet although it comes with a terrible turning circle. You will be using the vehicle's special feature, a high pressure water cannon, for all missions in Florian 8 and there is no accessible equipment on board.

Special Feature: A backwards facing water cannon with six nozzles. Aim using cn_LS. Activating all the nozzles at once by pressing cn_LB cn_LT cn_left cn_right cn_RT and cn_RB will unlock:

EQUIPMENT:

Each vehicle has a different set of equipment and not all equipment is available all the time. If you are holding one item, you need to return it before you can pick up another.

Fire Extinguisher: Only found in Florian 1. Hold cn_RT to use. An on-screen gauge shows how full it is.

Fire Hose: The same as the extinguisher, just bigger.

Hazmat Suit: Provides protection from injury. You will still take damage but at a reduced rate. Movement speed is reduced while wearing the suit and your oxygen supply is limited as indicated by the dial in the bottom right corner. If you run out of oxygen you simply take off the suit. You can refill the suit by returning it to the vehicle then putting it back on again.

Geiger Counter: Used to identify radioactive barrels – must be used in conjunction with the Hazmat Suit. There will be several barrels at the location. Use the needle on the Geiger to identify the relevant barrels, then approach each one for an cn_X prompt to ‘mark’ the barrel. Be fast as you’ll be taking damage!

Absorbent: A bag of absorbent used to clean up oil or chemical spills. Hold down cn_RT while standing over a spill will tip out the absorbent. It takes some time to pour so move slowly across the spill. You will get a notification when you’ve done enough. Used in conjunction with the broom to clean up the absorbent.

Broom: Once you’ve poured out the absorbent on a spill, hold down cn_RT with the broom to sweep it up. Again, you’ll receive a notification when you’ve done enough.

Robot: Has the same controls to drive as a vehicle. Approach a suspicious substance and use the cn_dpad and the bumpers to move the arm. Return the robot to the vehicle and use the computer on the side to analyse the sample.

Pump Tank: Used after analysing a sample with the robot but will not always be required. Collect the pump tank from Florian 6 and approach a green circle that will appear in front of the barrel. Use cn_up to put the pump down and wait a few seconds for a notification, then return the pump tank to end the mission.

MISSIONS:

Simple fire missions (1-200 points): Uses the fire extinguisher in Florian 1. Small objects like bins, benches and hay bales are on fire. Get the extinguisher and use cn_RT to spray liberally to put out the fire. Your first of these missions earns:

Building fire missions: Shelving on fire inside a small building. Require a fire hose to extinguish. Are almost always radioactive barrels or a casualty to rescue. In both cases, put out the fire first. On this mission especially, it can seem like the fire is out, but keep spraying until a message pops up.

Rooftop fire hose missions (250 points): The fire is located on the roof of a building. You’ll be using Florian 7 with its extendible ladder to reach the fire. Often combined with a rescue.

Vehicle water cannon missions (250-500 points): These are larger fires often located on tall buildings or rooftops. You need to use your vehicles water cannon to reach the flames. On some of the higher buildings it can be difficult to reach the fire, especially with Florian 4 or 5.

Hazardous Materials missions (250 points): An oil drum will be on its side with an unknown substance leaking from it. You will need the robot to safely check it out. Driving the robot has the same controls as driving a vehicle. Approach the drum and lower the arm to take a sample. The hitbox for getting the sample is quite generous so just get the robot close and use cn_RB to lower the arm until you get a notification. Return the robot to Florian 1, then use the computer on the passenger side to analyse the sample. This may end the mission or you may need to use the pump tank, found in Florian 6, to clean it up. This unlocks:

  • Biohazard

    Completed a hazardous materials mission.

    Biohazard
Offline Mode - These achievements require play in game modes that do not necessitate a connection to any online services.Single Player - These achievements can be obtained by a single player.Main Storyline - These achievements are gained automatically by progressing through the main game modes.

Radiation mission (adds 250 points): If you see barrels and start taking damage, it’s a radiation mission. A hazmat suit is essential. There will be a fire, so deal with that first, then you will be notified about radioactive substance containers. Find a Geiger counter. The number of barrels you need to mark is at the top of the screen. Use the Geiger to identify the barrels and mark them with cn_X. Once you’ve marked them all, the mission is complete. Completing your first radiation mission will unlock:

Rescue missions (adds 250 points): In a small building or on a roof. There will be a victim either lying on the ground or standing on the roof edge. Extinguish the fire then get close and use cn_up to grab them. These are Large Ops missions, so the whole fleet will arrive. You need to take the victim to the Ambulance, which is marked on the mini-map as F3. Approach the paramedic standing at the back of the Ambulance and use cn_up to pass off the victim and complete the mission. Sometimes the Ambulance parks a long way away, especially in the city on the bottom of the map.

Convoy missions (500 points): Only occur in Florian 6. You’re required to escort a convoy will be transporting a hazardous material. Head to the location and take up position behind the Police van at the back of the big truck. You need to get in the right spot but eventually you’ll be notified that the convoy is moving. Convoys tend to get spaced out; just stay behind the Police van and don’t worry about the rest of the convoy.

Crashing into one of the other vehicles in the convoy is an instant fail, as is letting the convoy get too far away. Eventually the convoy will stop and you will either complete the mission or need to check the truck with a Geiger counter.

Car crash/smoke in the tunnel (500 points): Exclusive to Florian 8. In the tunnel there will be a car on fire. Put out the fire then use the high-pressure pumps to clear out the smoke in the tunnel. Positioning can be a little tricky on these missions, both to find the car and to successfully clear all the smoke. Remember Florian 8’s water cannon faces to the rear.

Oil Spill mission (100 points): There will be a small oil spill on the ground. Tip absorbent on the spill then use the broom to mop it up. Spills can be hard to see at night so park your vehicle with the headlights covering the spill to light it up.

Car crash/oil spill (200 points): A combination of a fire mission and oil spill. Extinguish the fire then clean up the oil spill using the absorbent and broom.

Hazardous smoke missions (500 points): At the chemical or nuclear plant. A container has ruptured and you will be a toxic grey-green smoke in the sky. Use your vehicle's water cannon from a distance to disperse the hazardous smoke.
