HORIZON Festival
Okay, are you ready? Load up the game, press Start, select a hard drive, adjust brightness, yada, yada, yada. Once you are ready, select Single Player. After a cut-scene you are thrown into a vehicle (this isn't actually you), and are told to race to the HORIZON Festival. You can't change your difficulty yet, so just follow the route.
After another short cut-scene, you now gain control of your character/car, and are told that there are only 10 places available. There is a counter at the top showing the remaining places. This will decrease as you get closer to the destination. Get to the Festival fast for the HORIZON Heats. Actually, it is impossible to not qualify, as only 6 cars will beat you to the Festival. No matter how long you wait, the number will not reach 0.
Another cut-scene will introduce you to Dax, who works at the Garage in Forza Horizon. After this, you are told to go to the HORIZON Heats. Set a route to the event on your map with A. After this, you will win your first achievement, "Welcome to Horizon".
The game is now on your tag. Great!
Now let's actually race! You are given a waypoint to the Horizon Heats, so just follow that. Once you arrive, press X to register. Finish 3rd and above to win your first wristband. If you want, before starting the race, you can change the Difficulty and turn off assists. Increasing the difficulty will increase your earnings. When you're ready, Start Race.
Festival Race: Horizon Heats. 3,000 CR.
Finishing the race will earn you the "...and across the line!" achievement. If you win the race, you will unlock the "First!" achievement. If you fail to win, you must press Y to Restart the race.
After the race, you are told to go to Red Rock for a Showcase Event. On your way, look out for Discount Signs, as mentioned in the Hints and Tips page. There are three on the way to the next event. These will earn you discounts for car upgrades (1% per Discount Sign), which will save you a lot of money later. You may actually want to collect all 100 now (or at least early in the game) for free upgrades and a couple of achievements. If so, skip to the bottom of the walkthrough, or simply use this image.
The Showcase Event is a point-to-point race with a difference. You are driving a Ford Mustang '70, but you are racing against a Mustang plane. Go to the event and win! It's a pretty close race, so you can't afford to make many mistakes. This is also one of the suggested races for the "Hard Driving" achievement. For this, you must win the race on Hard difficulty. Change the difficulty via the 'Difficulty' menu before starting a race. Ensure Opponent Difficulty is set to Hard. The rest of the settings can be as you wish. The more assists you have, the easier the race will be (in most cases).
Showcase Event: HORIZON Presents Mustang. Plane Race Route. 5,000 CR. Ford Mustang '70 awarded as prize.
Showcase Events involve popular drivers. As your popularity increases, you will be invited to more of these events. You start off 250th. You must aim to become #1! From here on out you can perform skills to increase your popularity. There are several achievements related to skills and popularity. These are listed near the bottom of this page. Check the Sponsor Challenges on the Start Menu for information on several ways to earn skill points.
After winning the race, drive to Race Central. Once there, press X to enter. After the cut-scene, you will get your yellow wristband, awarding you with the "A Wristed Development" achievement. New coloured wristbands are awarded for points, allowing you to race in more events. When you view the map soon, you will notice that different events are circled with different colours.
Before we can do anything else, we are told to buy a car. You were given a fair amount of money after receiving your wristband. Either buy the 2011 Subaru WRX STI (32,000 Cr, 1 Token) or the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR (29,x000 Cr, 1 Token). The choice is yours. This will earn you the "Take Her for a Spin" achievement. Once you exit, re-enter the Autoshow. You can exit immediately if you wish.
Assuming you have a Forza 3 or Forza 4 save, you can collect loyalty cars. Go to Dak's Garage within Horizon Festival Loop (spanner/wrench icon). Press X, listen to him for a bit, and then select 'Change Car'. If you have the save games from either of the aforementioned games, you will be asked if you want to be rewarded with cars based on your loyalty. Select 'Yes, give me the cars'. This will earn you the "May The Forza Be With You" achievement.
There are more things we can do around Horizon Festival Loops. From Dak's Garage, drive right to the Paint Shop. Select 'Design Creator', create a paint job, and then save it. You will also be asked whether you want to upload the design to your storefront. This is not necessary. whichever you choose, you will unlock "Rave Paint". However, you should do this anyway for the "Wheelin' 'n Dealin'" achievement. If you are having trouble selling a paint job or vinyl, please check the following thread to trade with other users. Note that you can transfer vinyls over from your Forza 4 game if you have anything there. Thread: Wheelin' 'n Dealin' Achievement
Keep driving round the roundabout counter-clockwise. The next destination is the Marketplace. Select X to enter, then exit, unless you want to buy something. The next location is the Car Club. Enter this to find Online Clubs. If you don't want to join or create a club, just exit. The next location is the Race Central. Press X here, and you can find where you race rivals. Visiting all six of the locations within the Horizon Festival Loop will have earned you the "Been There, Done That!" achievement.
Drive towards the Festival Race. In this race you will have a Star to beat. All Festival Races from now on will include Stars, and will give you a Cr bonus for beating them. These are your direct competition for each wristband. Winning the wristband will eliminate them from the competition, and will give you an opportunity to race them in a one on one for their car.
Festival Race: Recaro Rush. Montano Dirt Cross. 100 points. 4,000 Cr.
Winning the race will earn you the "Born Slippy" achievement.
After this race, you should be told about Rival Races. After most races from now on, you will be asked whether you want to challenge a Rival. These gamers may be people from your friends list, or just someone from Xbox LIVE. You can choose to accept these rivals and try to beat their times, or race Rivals via Race Central later. You should try to beat your rival until you get the "Vendetta" achievement, which requires 10 wins. You are usually matched against someone with a similar time, so try not to be too fast if you want an easy rival challenge.
From here on out, there are many things you can do. I will just list all the events as they unlock for me.
There are two yellow wristband events available now. Race in, and win, both of these for 200 points, which is enough for a green wristband.
Festival Race: G-Shock Super Sprint. Clear Springs Run. 100 points. 3,000 Cr.
Festival Race: Oakley Blitz. Gladstone Dirt Sprint. 100 points. 3,000 Cr.
After you've won both, drive to Race Central to collect your green wristband, and the "Going Green" achievement.
There are three new events now you have your green wristband, but first, find Romana Cravache and accept her challenge. If you win, you get her car. Don't worry if you can't win straight away, you can come back later.
Star Showdown: Ramona Cravache. Ford F-150 SVT Raptor.
Now we have defeated Romona, let's get started on those three new events. 450 points is needed for the next wristband. You may need to buy and/or upgrade cars to compete in these races. With the new wristband, you also get a new Star to compete against; Ali Howard. If you are trying to compete in an event without an eligible car, you can choose to go to the Autoshow from the event to purchase an eligible car.
Festival Race: Fatlace Hot Hatch Hustle. Carson Sprint Circuit. 110 points. 6,000 Cr.
Festival Race: Brembo Midnight Blast. Main Stage Run. 110 points. 5,500 Cr.
Festival Race: Illest Eastern Steel. Steelworks Sprint Circuit. 110 points. 8,000 Cr.
After the first of these races, you will be told about the Street Race Hub. You can go there now if you want, but let's leave that for later. After a second race, more green wristband events will appear on the map.
Festival Race: Ford Challenge. Festival South Circuit. 110 points. 5,000 Cr.
Festival Race: Old Spice US Muscle Mash. Clifton Valley Mini Circuit. 110 points. 6,000 Cr.
Festival Race: Bondurant Valley Skirmish. Gladstone Dirt Cross. 110 points. 5,000 Cr.
Festival Race: HORIZON presents The Gauntlet. Gladstone Canyon Run. 110 points. 6,000 Cr.
Winning five of the above green wristband events will be enough to earn you promotion to the Blue wristband. You will need to collect it from Race Central, but first finish off the above races for the "#WINNING!" achievement, and then find and defeat Ali Howard to win his car.
Star Showdown: Ali Howard. Dodge Challenge SRT8 392.

Now get ready for your final Festival Race, the HORIZON Final. Win this to become Champion and unlock the "Darius Who?" achievement. This is the final 8 player race in the Festival, and gives a massive bonus.
Festival Race: HORIZON Champion of Champions. Beaumont Circuit Reverse. 5,000,000 Cr.
Immediately following this race, you will have a 1on1 versus Darius Flynt. This is the final Star Showdown, and you will be forced to race with the car you chose previously. It is a long race around most of the map, and will last over 9 minutes. It is also very easy to miss turnings, so make sure you pay attention to the minimap and/or the checkpoints. At the very end of the race, stay right. If you miss the last road, you will zoom past the final checkpoint and struggle to recover.
Star Showdown: Darius Flynt. Ferrari 599XX.
Assuming you have won all previous Star Showdowns, you will now have earned the "Domination!" achievement.

Popularity and Showcase Races
By this time, you should hopefully be the most popular racer in HORIZON. Popularity is based on point scoring. You will naturally earn points and popularity as you play through the game. The best way to rack up points is to create a skill chain, whereby you link multiple skills together in a short period of time. This increases a multiplier, which gives you a much larger point score, once cashed. To cash your points, you must allow a period of time to pass without earning any more points, and without crashing heavily.
The skills include drifting, racing at high speeds, drafting behind other cars, passing other cars. One of the most useful skills to use to link skill chains is the wreckage skill, which is obtained by crashing in to signposts and other smaller objects that lie to the side of the road. They don't increase your score by much, but they do help to extend the multiplier and, as mentioned above, link other skill chains.
There are various achievements for different popularities. These are 200th, 100th, 50th, 10th, and of course, 1st.
As you gain popularity, you will be invited to different Showcase Events. These will usually be very different to your standard race. You were introduced to one earlier in the game, where you raced against a biplane. Many of the others are similar to this. Each award a car. The Showcase Races, and the popularity position required to be invited to them are displayed below. Complete each Showcase Race for the "Exhibitionist" achievement.
225th: HORIZON High Noon Balloon. Balloon Race. 6,500 Cr. Audi Quattro awarded as a prize.
200th: HORIZON Presents Manic MINI. Carson Sprint Circuit. 8,500 Cr. MINI Cooper '65 awarded as a prize.
175th: HORIZON Presents The Wind Tunnel. Chopper Race Route. 10,000 Cr. Corvette C6 GSC awarded as a prize.
150th: HORIZON Presents Bi-Plane Beatdown. Biplane Race Route 2. 13,000 Cr. Ferrari F40 awarded as a prize.
125th: HORIZON Presents Scorpion Sting. Gladstone Dirt Cross. 15,000 Cr. Fiat Abarth 500 awarded as a prize.
100th: HORIZON Presents The Stampede. Biplane Race Route. 18,000 Cr. LP700-4 awarded as a prize.
75th: HORIZON Presents RUF 'n' Ready. P51 Mustang Race 2. RUF RGT-8 awarded as a prize.
50th: HORIZON Presents Je m'appelle Awesome! Gladstone Trail. 23,000 Cr. Peugeot 205 T16 awarded as a prize.
1st: HORIZON Presents Agent of Speed. Helicopter Race Route 2. 25,000 Cr. Aston One-77 awarded as a prize.
Once you have won ALL Festival Races, Star Showdowns, Street Races and Showcase Events, you will have now unlocked the "All Your Race Are Belong To Us" achievement.
Horizon Outpost PR Stunts
As you drive around the map, you will unlock Outposts. There are 10 in total, and you must be Green Wristband or above to unlock them. You can use these to fast travel around the map. To do this, go to the map, and press X on the Outpost you would like to travel to. Each time you use this option, it costs you 10,000 Cr. Click here for the locations of all Outposts in Forza Horizon.
Each of the Outposts also has three PR Stunts. You need to complete all PR Stunts from all Outposts for the "Stuntman" achievement. Drive inside the Outposts and press X to enter them. You have a certain amount of time to complete some of the PR Stunts, and they vary from passing through speed traps at speed, completing a photo shoot at a specific location, or performing high skill combos. Completing PR Stunts will give you discounts for fast travel. One for 25% off, two for 50% off, and three for 100% off travel to that Outpost.
For the Speed Stunts, you need to race through a speed trap at a certain speed. For the best chances of success, race carefully, avoiding contact with everything and anything that will slow you down. If you can find a good route between cars and bends in the road, you will easily hit the target speed.
For the Photo Shoots you must drive to a specific destination, avoiding the wrecking of your vehicle. Once there, press Start, select Photo Mode, and take a picture of the car with something specific in the background.
The Skill Stunts are arguably the most difficult of the three PR Stunts. You should aim to create a large skill chain, so the multiplier is really high. I found it useful to take advantage of the 'Near Miss' and 'Wreckage' skills to extend the multiplier on straight roads, and then drift around corners and turns.

Miscellaneous Achievements
Great! The remaining achievements are all miscellaneous achievements that you can choose to do at any time.
Festival Racers
Hopefully you're still in the mood for racing, so let's do some more of them. As you drive around, you will see cars with names above them. These cars will also appear on the minimap as grey circles. These cars can be raced against. All you have to do is drive close behind them, and then press X to challenge them. Note that they will be marked with a difficulty. Try to be driving in one of your fastest cars to make this easier. Once challenged, you must race against them in a point to point race. Follow your minimap. You will be rewarded with a Cr bonus for each win. Win 10 of these races in total for the "Close Encounters" achievement. You can in fact race against he same drive over and over, eliminating the trouble of finding new drivers after each race.
Speed Traps and Average Speed Zones
This is another achievement you could have, and maybe even should have, unlocked by now. There are 22 Speed Traps (white on map) and 9 Speed Zones (yellow on map) dotted around Colorado. All you need to do for this achievement is set a speed in 5 of each. Here is a map showing the location of all Speed Traps and Speed Zones. Worry not, you are not required to set good times. Check the following map for locations of all Speed Traps and Speed Zones, or click here for a larger image.
Barn Finds
Whilst driving around, you will be alerted to Barn Finds. These Barn Finds will also be announced on the Radio. There are 9 Barn Finds in total. The following image shows where the location of each barn is, and the car you will gain from those barns. All you have to do is go to each location (once you have heard the rumour), and find the barn with an old car. Drive close to the barn and Dak will take the car in to work on. He will contact you later for collection. You only need to locate one Barn Find for the "Barn This Way" achievement.
Should you want to, you can purchase a Treasure Map, which will reveal the exact location of a Barn Find every time one becomes available. To do this, access your map, then press RB. The Treasure Map costs 5 Tokens. Tokens cost MSP. 5 Tokens (+1 Free) costs 400 MSP. The Treasure Map will also reveal the location of every Discount Sign in the game. It is recommended that you do not purchase this, for obvious reasons. The following map shows the location of each Barn Find. Click here for a larger image.
Sponsorship Challenges
This is another area in which you have probably already unlocked both achievements. There are various Sponsor Challenges available to you, each of which have 10 ranks. You must complete 5 challenges for the "Kudos To You" achievement, and then an additional 15 for the "Sellout" achievement. Discount Signs and Roads
I have coupled these two together, as it is wise to go for them at the same time. If you followed my advice from the previous page, you will have been smashing in to all Discount Signs as and when you see them. We will now try to clean up the rest of them. At the same time, we will be driving on all roads in the game. Each Discount Sign smashed will give you a 1% discount for upgrades on cars. There are 100 in total. Each are numbered, but that's not really important.
Open your map, and press LB. Filter so that only Discount Signs are shown. Each Discount sign you have located, but not smashes will now appear as a small red dot. Drive to these and smash them. You should also locate any roads that you have not driven down. These roads will appear as greyed out, rather than the white or orange/brown of other roads.
Here is an image of all 100 Discount Signs. Smash 10 for the "Bargain Shopper" achievement, and an additional 90 Discount Signs for the "Black Friday" achievement. Click here for a larger image.
Should you want to, you can purchase a Treasure Map, which will reveal the exact location of every Discount Sign in the game. To do this, access your map, then press RB. The Treasure Map costs 5 Tokens. Tokens cost MSP. 5 Tokens (+1 Free) costs 400 MSP. The Treasure Map will also reveal the location of a Barn Find every time one becomes available. It is recommended that you do not purchase this, for obvious reasons.
Once you have driven down each and every road on the map, you will unlock the "Road Trip" achievement. There are 216 roads in total. Some smaller roads can be difficult to find, so zoom in to the map and check each complicated area carefully. This includes on/off ramps of the highway.
Congratulations! You have completed the Single Player in the Main Game. Now either get started on the Multiplayer, or the Horizon Rally DLC.
