5. Forza Horizon Rally Expansion DLCUpdate notes

The Rally Expansion DLC can be purchased from here for 1600 Microsoft Points. In this DLC, there are new stages for you to race in, new cars for you to buy, and 10 new achievements worth a total of 250 GamerScore. Nine of the achievements can be unlocked in the new Single Player, whilst the final achievement is unlocked in Multiplayer. Unlike the main game, there is no Free Roam in the Horizon Rally.

Horizon Rally

Once you have downloaded the DLC, select 'Horizon Rally' from the main menu. A cut-scene will start introducing the Horizon Rally Championships. After the cut-scene, you will be forced in to a Qualifier. Don't worry though, it's just a tutorial. You will have a co-driver who will inform you of the types of turns you should take. Listen to them at all times!

Note that this DLC works in very much the same way as the main game, but the tracks are a lot more ... bumpy, as you may expect. In fact, there's an achievement for getting a total of 1609 metres of air. This is cumulative and can unlock at any time during the Horizon Rally Championship. The "Mile High Club" unlocked for me during the second race.

After completing the first race, you will unlock the "Now that's a Special Stage" achievement.

You will then be taken to the Autoshow, and will be told to buy a car. There is just one available now; 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR for 20,000 Cr. Your money rolls over from your other game. If you have completed that, you should have lots of money already. Buy the car for the "Take her for a Power Slide" achievement.

The car then has to undergo a rally conversion to be eligible for the Horizon Rally, so accept to continue. Hopefully you will have already collected all Discount Signs, so this costs you nothing, but if not, you should have more than enough money anyway.

After continuing, you are told about your first race. However, first press RB to go to the Service Area. From here, select Autoshow. You should now find and purchase the remaining four Horizon Rally cars. Only one is particularly costy, but you should have accumulated more than enough money from the main game. If not, go back to the Autoshow later.

1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth. 24,000 Cr.
1982 Lancia 037 Stradale. 240,000 Cr.
2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STi. 18,000 Cr.
1992 Toyota Celica GT-Four RC ST185. 7,000 Cr.

Purchase all five cars for the "High Five!" achievement. Note that you will need to convert each car to make them eligible for the rally. I recommend the Subaru for the entire DLC.

Once the above has been completed, leave the Service Area. You are now ready to race. To reach the final, you must obtain 310 points. The first races are worth 60 points each. Each race in the Horizon Rally is separated in to four stages. The stages are not like your typical race. You are racing for time. Your time will be compared to the other races at various points within each race. Your times for all stages are added up for the final Rally Standings for any particular race.

Before starting the first stage, feel free to change the difficulty to whichever you like. There is an achievement for winning a race on Hard, but I will describe this later at an appropriate point. For starters, aim to win a race without crashing or using rewind. If you fail, restart the race.

Horizon Rally: Beaumont. 10,000 Cr. 60 points. B Class.

After winning any stage without crashing or using rewind, you will have unlocked the "Flawless Victory" achievement. All are easy with most assists on, but Stages 1 and 2 are the shortest of the four.

Finish 1st after all 4 stages for the "Covered in Mud and Glory" achievement. Note that you don't have to win all stages within a race to win.

You will now have a new race to try. However, we will first go back and re-do the first two stages of Beaumont. The second stage is the easiest for the "Harder Driving" achievement. Select Beaumont, select the Subaru Impreza WRX STi, and before the race begins, go to Difficulty. Change the 'Opponent Difficulty' to Hard. Now make sure that Shifting is set to Manual, and Driving Line is set to Off. You may also want to ensure that Rewind is On. This is invaluable, especially if you are not the best racer in the world. Using rewind over and over on a particular corner can shave tens of milliseconds off of your time.

If you've not been driving Manual before, you will need to shift gears yourself. Under default controls, B is used to shift up a gear, and X is used to shift down a gear. Use the first stage of Beaumont to practice, but don't worry about your position. It is the second stage where you will want to aim for the achievement. This is because it is a relatively easy, short track, and the AI opponents are not overly competitive.

If you want to learn more about when to shift gear, and which gear you should use to take various corners, I recommend racing with Automatic shift and seeing what gears are used then. Alternatively, you can watch the following video by Maka91 .

When you get to your "Harder Driving" attempt, I recommend racing as fast as you can to the first checkpoint. There is only one annoying turn. Hopefully, by this point you will be in first position. If you're not, either rewind past any bad sections, or restart the race. Once you are ahead, try to perfect every corner, abusing the Rewind function. With each checkpoint, aim to extend your lead. By the final checkpoint, you will want a lead in excess of 1+ seconds, as beyond this point, there is no way of checking how you are doing against other racers without finishing the race. By this point, you may have to restart. If you have a great lead after the last checkpoint, abuse the rewind function once more for a perfect end to the race. Good luck!

  • Harder Driving

Won a Rally stage on Hard opponent difficulty without using automatic shifting or the Driving Line.

    Harder Driving

After winning the "Harder Driving" achievement, feel free to carry on with the Horizon Rally by racing and winning each race as they appear. As mentioned above, each has 4 stages. You should also remember to change your difficulty back to whatever you feel comfortable with.

Horizon Rally: Montano Plains. 15,000 Cr. 60 points. A Class.
Horizon Rally: North Plains. 20,000 Cr. 60 points. B Class.
Horizon Rally: The Rockies. 25,000 Cr. 60 points. A Class.
Horizon Rally: Kettle Hills. 30,000 Cr. 60 points. S Class.
Horizon Rally: Red Rock. 40,000 Cr. 60 points. R3 Class.

After winning the above races, you will qualify for the Horizon Rally Final.

Horizon Rally: Clear Springs. 50,000 Cr. S Class.

Win this race, and you become to the Horizon Rally Champion, unlocking the "Horizon Rally Champion" achievement. Congratulations!

Now that's done, let's work on Rivals mode. You must win against a rival on 5 different stages. The first two stages of each race are the shortest, but mix and match as you please. Go to the first race, and press X for Rivals. Once you are on your desired stage, you can press X again to Change Rival. You can either choose from your friends, or Change Filter with X to search the leaderboard. Once you have found a time you believe you can beat (it can be someone with a worse time than youalready), press A, then A again to start. You can see the ghost of your Rival as you are racing, so you will know if you are doing well or not.

Once you have beaten a rival on 5 different stages, you will unlock "Rally Rivals".

Multiplayer

This achievement may require a boosting partner. As such, it is recommend that you check out the Gaming Sessions Feature and contact users on the Boost List.

Once you have a session, have one person Create Custom Game, and invite the other user to your lobby. The lobby is automatically Private. Now set Game Type to 'Rally', Rally to 'The Kettle Hills Rally', and Stage to 'Kettle Hills - Stage 2'. Have Time of Day set to 'Midday' and the End of Race Timer to '0:00'. Have both players select an eligible car, and Start Game.

Both players need to win 10 Rally races. You can either alternate, or just race properly until one person has 10 wins, and then allow the other to win. Either way, after 10 wins, you will unlock "Ghostbuster".

This should hopefully be your last achievement in the entire game. Congratulations!
