Start a new game on the main menu to get started. Please remember that you unlock chapter selection after beating the game - do not start a new game ever again or you'll lose the chapter select ability!
Chapter 1: White
When the game begins, walk to the right until Gris eventually starts to run; you can now jump with . Return back to the left and run all the way over there, past a tiny staircase that prevents you from doing this earlier. Take a look at what lies here before you return eastward.
You'll eventually encounter a white star. Continue even further to the right and climb up some ruins once you can jump on them towards the left. Continue onto a darker-colored hill and then onto some ruins leading left. Reach the top of a tall tower and, when a constellation forms in front of you, jump off to the left. Pick up the strange (1/2) Memento floating here and get back to the top of the tower. Cross the constellation and pick up your third star, which will allow you to continue to the right.
You should get a little more color in your world after reaching a specific kind of stone remains.
RedA color has been brought back
The second Chapter 1 memento can only be obtained much later into the game.
Chapter 2: Red
Continue to the right. You will find a nice building and your three stars will leave you. The unfinished constellation above this place will have to wait. Run to the right and drop down off a ledge, causing you to slide down a long red slope. Proceed and climb a building to see the title drop. Jump to the right and make a left when you hit the ground to find another (1/7) Memento. Enter a building and wait for a sandstorm to pass. There's an achievement for completing some of this chapter without being blown away, so do your best to stay out of harm's way! Sandstorm blasts are timed and occur independently from your time inside some ruins, so if you linger too long inside one, play it safe and wait for the next wave to arrive. Quit to the title screen if Gris is blown away and tumbles backwards.
You'll eventually pick up another star. Drop down and quickly make it to safety. The next star you need is down and to the right; pick it up, then climb back to a previous safe spot and walk across a constellation. You should soon find yourself inside a walking rock with a (2/7) Memento inside. To get it, climb to the top and drop down to a slope when the sand isn't blowing, then perform a little jump on said slope to hit the memento.
Leave the rock creature and drop downwards. There's a memento right here but it is not reachable right now. Instead, run to the right and let your stars do some magic. You can now turn into a heavy block. Return to the left and turn into a block when sandstorms pass by, then jump above the (3/7) Memento and drop downwards in your block form to pick it up. Progress forwards into a temple.
Inside the temple, don't break the floor. Walk outisde to the right instead and jump up to the highest platform. Wait for a sandstorm to brew up and jump to a (4/7) Memento to the left when the wind can carry you over there. Return to the cracked floor underneath the bell and break the ground until you eventually reach a black-and-white area. Avoid turning into a block at all unless you are in the right spot. Run to the left and locate a statue rising out of the ground at about breast level, hands on the face, between two pots on each side. Jump onto the back of the hair until you land on it, then hop onto the top of the head and break it. Walk to the right and look for two pots you can jump on top of, with two statues on either side that you can jump on. Break these two as well.
Continue to the left once the scene changes and you should eventually find yourself in a cave with a circular image on the wall. Underneath it is a stack of three small rocks: One is flat, the second is kind of sharp, and the third rock is on top of the sharp rock. There are 14 of these small structures in the chapter from here on out. Use your block form to break this (01/14) Stone Statue. Walk just to the left and you should spot another (02/14) Stone Statue in the path of a walking rock. Break it and climb upwards to find a third (03/14) Stone Statue. Walk along the white platforms and jump into a small cave on the right side, where you'll spot another (04/14) Stone Statue.
Push down the semicircle in the middle of the room with your block form. This will activate a machine that will allow you to proceed up and to the left, where you should easily spot another (05/14) Stone Statue. Leave to the left and climb up to a set of platforms that slightly skews left when you walk on it. Slam it downwards and use it to climb up to your third star, then slam the right side so the platforms are once again horizontal. Run up and climb the windmill to reach a (5/7) Memento.
Go back inside and use your third star to walk to the upper right side of the room. Break another (06/14) Stone Statue and walk outside to the right. The next (07/14) Stone Statue is in a small room as you continue climbing. When you see the eighth (08/14) Stone Statue, break it and jump off to the right towards a wheel. Pick up a (6/7) Memento and return yourself to the main path. The next (09/14) Stone Statue is at the start of a larger area and its sibling (10/14) Stone Statue is on the left side of the room. Activate the rotating platforms by slamming down in the middle of the upper semicircle, then go up and to the right to find a (11/14) Stone Statue. Continue to the right and break a walking rock; the creature inside will pick up a larger rock to the right, which will allow you to grab a star.
Go to the upper left and, once outside, drop down and break a rock. Scale the tower up to the top and use your block form on the small wooden platform sticking out of the rock until the balloon is all the way down. Quickly scale the tower and try to jump on top of the balloon's upper platform. From there, climb up some rocks and break another large rock. Walk along its pieces to the left until you pick up the chapter's final (7/7) Memento. Pick up the star to the right of the balloon/rock and return to the main room inside.
Climb the constellation at the top of the room and break the (12/14) Stone Statue at its end. Slightly up and to the left, in a small cave, are the two final (14/14) Stone Statues. Break them and enjoy your achievement!
Continue climbing and jump over a gap in the large wheel so you can ascend even higher. Drop from way high up so you can activate the circle mechanism below with one good drop. Walk to the right and experience a new sensation.
GreenA color has been brought back
Chapter 3: Green
Walk to the left and you should soon find yourself in that one open building from earlier. Jump on top of a square green tree and your current stars will soar upwards. Walk to the left past the tree to start the next journey. Walk for a while until you find a strange creature in a cutscene. Further left are a group of trees that shift their bushes into right triangles. Carefully ascend them and, when you get to another set of trees, climb all the way up to the highest trees for a (1/7) Memento.
Walk left and drop down to find the creature from before. Your impact has caused an (1/8) Apple to fall down. Continue left and climb around the trees here; look for three trees with (4/8) Apples and pound them so you can feed the little guy on the ground. Drop down and talk to the creature, who will open up a path for you downwards. Stay on the lowest tree branch as you walk all the way to the left, then help your buddy drop down to the ground so they can eat an (5/8) Apple. Carry on to the left and slam down on a stone pillar. Watch the higher platform and turn around when the little guy is up there; make them go al the way to the right for an (6/8) Apple treat.
Carry on to the left and, when the creature lands on top of the next stone pillar, perform a slam yourself; the creature will copy you, destroying the pillar. Further left is a lone tree with an (7/8) Apple on it. Give the apple to your friend, then slam downwards to the left to reach a new zone. Walk to the left until the creature wakes up, then go all the way to the right for one last (8/8) Apple.
Continue left. Your friend will leave you and you should soon find a new ability locked behind two star receptacles. Go down and to the right from here, then to the right again to find your little buddy. They'll give you a star. Return to the main room and go left towards a set of red bushes that change when you jump. Reach the large central bush, then go left and drop down to a lower bush so you can jump up to a (2/7) Memento. Touch it and then pick up the star up to the right before returning to the main room. Your stars will unlock the ability to double jump and glide.
Use your new power to scale the large room you're in. When you reach some red butterflies, hold to zoom upwards. Walk to the right and break some pots to free a few more butterflies. Grab the (3/7) Memento above the butterflies, then drop down and keep walking left. The next room requires you to use your double jump after you've already dropped for some distance. You'll soon find a tree shrub with two swarms of butterflies circling it; use one swarm to jump to the top of the tree, then jump upwards again. Walk to the right once you're at the top and break some of the floor to reach another (4/7) Memento.
Use butterflies to jump up higher and higher until you reach a stone statue, much like the ones you've seen before. Try singing in front of it.
Upon reaching a swarm of butterflies, they will form a bird and chase after you. Try to look for a (5/7) Memento on the right side of the screen as you run inside a building; when you see it, jump onto the upside down tree. The bird will soon send a gust of wind at you if you go further left. Use this to double jump to the memento. You can retry this as many times as you want - just time your double jump backwards so the bird is screaming while you're in the air.
Get past the bird using your block form, then use butterflies to ascend some trees in the open air. Use a swarm to arch a jump to the left over a slanted piece of rock. This will send you down towards another (6/7) Memento. Continue up the tower and, when you reach a room with three bells, approach the bird with your block form to make it blow a harder gust of wind, ringing the two smaller bells. Do the same up top with the larger bell to scare the bird off.
It's not much of a trek from here until you find yourself in the comfort of another hand.
BlueA color has been brought back
Progress further and hop along a few trees; some are invisible with water pouring down them and some are the familiar squares. The first trio of square green trees leads to two water trees. Get to the second water tree and jump towards a few butterflies to continue the upper path here. Don't forget that you get a new double jump after using butterflies! This path leads to the chapter's last (7/7) Memento.
Chapter 4: Blue
Trek back to the central area and go down and to the right towards where the red zone took place. Look for a small room on your left as you approach it and use the new water to swim to the start of this chapter. You shouldn't have any issues progressing through this chapter's opening segment. When you reach a dark cave with mushrooms, scale the first set and stop when you reach a cliff up and to the right. Next, jump on the lowest mushroom and constantly move up and to the left until you pass over two huge mushrooms and are standing on a smaller one. Slam down on it and use some newly revealed butterflies to reach a (1/5) Memento. Drop down and walk to the right to reach a pulley system. Use your cube form to sink lower into the caves.
The next major landmark is another tablet that teaches you a new ability. This once again requires you to have two stars. Go left and turn into a block; the cave here will capture your image and turn it solid until the next cycle, so turning into a block is a great way to reach the next platform. As for the star, turn into a block, then make one more stair with yourself. Jump up to the floating cube image and then to the star. In the cave on the right, make sure one of the jars is up in the air, then form a block underneath the high jar. Quickly jump on top of the jar and slam it down to make both jars level, then grab the second star. Return to the slab and learn how to swim!
Dive down into the water and keep looking on the right side of the water for a hidden path on the right. This leads to a (2/5) Memento. The next important spot is a turtle that needs six stars to wake up. Do some rather simple platforming to collect the stars in the northwest and southwest corners of the cave. You need to use some red fish in the southeast corner to perform a big jump upwards. Next, swim down directly underneath the turtle and look for a hidden path to the left when you are among the stars. This should lead to a cave with a statue.
In the northeast room, chase the star upwards to the end of the water, but stay in the water and wait for the star to come back around to you. In the southeast corner, reach the end of the path and swim underneath a building. You can swim behind some of the pillars here; do this to reach the star, then swim downwards. Grab the three red fish and unclog the blockage above. Swim to the small opening upwards on your way back to the main cave (still in the southeast section) and use the fish to soar upwards. Swim along the path and drop down to the third (3/5) Memento of Chapter 4.
Return to the turtle and follow it through the depths to reach a new area. Swim around and scale some pouring water towards the hand of a large statue, releasing... yellow? I guess?
YellowA color has been brought back
That bird from earlier will take form as an eel as it chases you in the water. You need to avoid being bitten to get an achievement. To do this, there are two things you must know: First, the quick rapid bites are automatically avoided and can basically be ignored. Second, the bigger bites should be dodged when you see the eel kind of swing its jaw together slightly, as this is the perfect time to dodge forward. Quit to the title screen and reload if you see Gris tumble.
Swim upwards when the eel goes away and follow the path for a long time until you see stalactites that look like this:
When you see these, immediately swim left to find a (4/5) Memento. Carry on and you'll eventually be attacked by the eel. This will cause Gris to tumble and this is the one instance where tumbling does not count against you. Swim upwards to safety and grab an achievement!
EelAvoid eel bites
Swim and jump and dash until you find a glowing tree surrounded by a few patches of butterflies and water pockets. Jump into the first set of butterflies in this room, then dive down and to the right out of the water and double jump to maintain some height. This should place you on a path that leads to the last (5/5) Memento.
Make your way back to the main area and watch your stars join the others in the big constellation.
Chapter 5: Yellow
Before you actually start Chapter 5's area, drop down to the ground and return to the lower left corner where Chapter 1 took place. Go that direction and swim around to find Chapter 1's second (2/2) Memento.
Walk to the top of the tree bush and jump to the right until you can use some butterflies to reach a higher area. Walk to the left and you'll find the start of the next chapter. Locate a floating light source and walk up and to the right with it to reach the first section.
Use yellow butterflies for the first time to light up an area and look at the red butterflies in the top window. You want to get on top of that roof using both sets of yellow butterflies and some normal jumps before the building fades away. Use the red butterflies when you drop into them and hop down to the left a few times to find a (1/7) Memento. Drop again to the left and continue until you reach a semicircle of water with two sets of red fish; jump above the tower on the left and land on the platform there to reach another (2/7) Memento. Progress upwards to another ability slab.
Go left first. Proceed through the path and, after you alternate between right-side-up, right-side-down, and right-side-up, use a set of butterflies to fall near a vase near a bunch of yellow flowers. Stop right there and walk left off the edge. Use the butterflies at the end of this path to get a (3/7) Memento. Continue to the star and walk to the right past the ability slab to progress towards the next star. Grab it and take both stars to the slab to unlock the ability to sing. Singing can affect plants and other objects. You'll automatically sing to two (2/7) Magic Fowl near the ability slab.
The next task is to collect more stars and collectibles with your new ability. Walk to the right and sing to two flowers near each other underneath a cube of water. Use the butterflies here to progress upwards and sing to shining circles that look like mementos. You'll eventually pick up a third star. Look for this place while upside-down after you get that star:
You can actually walk behind the pillars to the right. Back there, you can find a (3/7) Magic Fowl and a (4/7) Memento. Sing to the bird and touch the memento, then continue onwards.
Upon picking up the fourth star, look for another (4/7) Magic Fowl and sing to it. Break the cracked ground and swim towards an upside-down tower. Swim down and to the left when you see it; this path leads to some water blocks that will help you reach a (5/7) Memento. Return to the upside-down tower and swim back to the ability slab.
Time to go back to the left. When you see some flowers to sing to, do so and use the butterflies to reach a high ledge above a glowing tree. Make a leap of faith to a platform that will become apparent thanks to that glowing tree, then make your way up to the (6/7) Memento visible here. Sing to the (5/7) Magic Fowl nearby as well. Drop back down to the butterflies on the ground and jump left with it. Sing to a large bulb here to release water underneath it, then swim and collect your fifth star. Locate a set of yellow butterflies and sing to the (6/7) Magic Fowl near them, then use the bugs to fly upwards. You'll soon be turned upside-down - keep track of when you return to being right-side-up. You should be in a spot that looks like this:
Drop to the right and find a set of red butterflies. Use them and cancel your jump with so you can reach the (7/7) Memento here. Use the butterflies properly to continue and grab the sixth star. Fall to the left, break some fragile ground, and swim until you're out of the water. STAY ON DRY LAND and look for a (7/7) Magic Fowl to sing to. Do so and continue swimming back to the ability slab.
Use your singing and stars to make a constellation above the ability slab. Sing at the top.
Chapter 6
Back at the central area, watch your constellation come together above you.
All Mementos Collected: Walk off the left edge of the roof and hold as soon as you're off the ledge to land in a crack in the wall. Sing by the mural on the wall and watch a cutscene. If you have not yet collected the mementos, use chapter select after finishing the game, then come back to the start of this chapter.
Sing to some plants and soar upwards until... something happens. Walk around until you surface, then sing to a statue near the water's edge.
Climb the remains floating to the right and sing when you're at their peak. Walk up one more constellation when presented to you to see the credits roll.
