Alright, let's get into it.
As mentioned before, our first walkthrough should be offline (by yourself), playing on hardcore, trying to go for all those De-Classified missions and COG Tags.
If you're new to Gears and Hardcore becomes way too daunting for you, forget it and go try it on Casual. When you complete the campaign on Insane difficulty eventually, you get all the achievements for completing it on a lower difficulty, so don't sweat. If you're not new, Hardcore is probably the best place to start out. This Gears has a lot more enemies on screen at a time, but consequentially, the game is a lot easier (in my opinion anyway). You can go play co-op with some friends on Insane later or tackle it now if your testosterone levels are high.
So you are Damon Baird of Delta squad. Delta squad is standing trial for disobeying orders. No spoilers here, but just to let you know, you're gonna start in the present on trial for your actions, jump back to witness all four testimonies of your squad, have ANOTHER testimony from Baird before jumping into the present for a final section.
Your first Act done, hurrah. Fairly straightforward, shouldn't be too many issues with this. Remember, as soon as you see a mini stats screen followed by a cutscene, that signals the end of a section, so there should be a new 'De-classified' mission to accept in the next. Keep an eye out for the big glowing crimson COG. They're pretty easy to spot, but one or two evaded me initially. You should unlock this one quite early on if you're accepting them all.
By now, you probably will have already gotten this achievement.
Simply for progressing through the story, you gain XP. If you haven't got it already, you should by the end of the next level.
You probably have also unlocked this one too by accident.
You can gain three ribbons quite easily. My advice if you're struggling is to plug an E-Hole as soon as it emerges with a frag. Not only will you get one for plugging the E-hole, you should get one for killing multiple enemies with a single frag. Remember, they have to be UNIQUE ribbons, so no farming the same one again and again.
As for COG tags, this is a nice, simple and most importantly, quick video overview showing you their locations.
Again, not too hard. There's one section on a bridge leading to the science labs where the 'De-classified' mission is no longshots, reduced ammo and extra Reaver support. This is a pain in the ass on Hardcore, as those Reavers can drop you fast. Try hanging back, and pick up ammo as you go along.
With a bit of luck, you should hear that magical 'ding' and find yourself the proud new owner of:
And if you're accepting all 'De-classified' missions and getting all three stars on every section, you will unlock the additional campaign 'Aftermath'. This requires 40 stars in the main story.
If you're going for all COG tags on this playthrough, you'll get this:
And depending on how much XP you're raking in (based on difficulty, how many ribbons you're getting etc.), you may pop this one two. Don't worry if you don't, you probably will soon.
A walkthrough for the COG tags...
Sweet. Let's move on.
A couple of these 'De-classified' missions almost demand you restart from the checkpoint, as they can be quite challenging. Just focus and try to get as many ribbons as you can to boost that star rating.
As expected, you will receive an achievement for completing the level:
On top of that, you'll unlock this as well for getting 50 stars on at least Casual difficulty in the campaign.
Attain 50 Stars on at least Casual Difficulty
For those keen on grabbing all those tags.
You're doing well. Having fun yet?
All aboard the Cole train baby! You're the proud new owner of this achievement for completing his level.
This one for completing 20 'De-classified' missions:
And this one for achieving 75 stars on at least Normal difficulty. Sorry for those starting out on Casual, you're gonna need to try it again on a higher level.
You're bound to get this if you got those COG tags.
And if you're lost as to where they are...
Everyone loves Baird, so we get to play as him some more now.
And bam, our first big achievement unlocks for a juicy 50 gamerscore. Attain 100 stars on at least Hardcore for this to pop. Again, if you're on Normal or Casual, this won't unlock for you.
Attain 100 Stars on at least Hardcore Difficulty
You may also get this depending on whether you've been getting that XP or if you've tried multiplayer yet. Don't worry, none of these level achievements are specific for campaign, and you'll get theme easy enough outside of it.
Those evasive COG tags are scattered around. Another video to hunt them down.
Oh boy, jump to the present and the shit has hit the fan. The boss fight is typical and can be expected from another Gears game. Just shoot and weak spots, kill little grubs, rinse and repeat until it's dead.
Congrats! You've beaten Judgment. If you're playing on Hardcore like I suggested, you'll see the following unlock.
Complete all Campaign Chapters on at least Casual difficulty
Complete all Campaign Chapters on at least Normal difficulty
Complete all Campaign Chapters on at least Hardcore difficulty
Plus, for doing all those De-classified missions like the good achievement hunter you are.
Wowza. Take a breath and pat yourself on the back. You've earned it.
Now, I sense your confusion about the COG tags. Here's a video for you on this level, but hang on, you've finished the game. Where's your achievement?
Well you've still got Aftermath to go, and yes, the tags in that count towards the 48 you need. So hang on for a little while longer.
Now if you've played on Insane first time around and went for all the 'De-classified' missions you'd have unlocked the following:
Complete all Campaign Chapters on Insane difficulty
Attain all Stars on Insane Difficulty
If you DIDN'T, don't panic. This is the time to jump in with three other buddies of yours (or if you don't have friends, three other friendly strangers courtesy of a gaming session on True Achievements). Play on Insane, go for all those missions, and have some patience. With a little luck, you'll get all three listed above as well as the two beneath.
Nothing great about this unlockable campaign. We get to see how pessimistic and cynical our three male heroes have turned out to be. I won't spoil anything about Sophia, but let's just say it's not nice.
And for hunting down those few remaining COG tags...
...you'll be rewarded with a shiny new achievement.
THE CROWD ROARS! You've managed to beat Gears Judgment and get some of those tougher achievements. You're one step closer to 100 percenting this mutha. Let's go take a look at multiplayer, shall we?
