Haunt is a great little arcade game which is played using the Kinect sensor. Grabbing all 12 achievements won't be take too long and for the most part won't prove too difficult.
This walkthrough will focus on explaining how to get all of the achievements instead of guiding you through every step of the story. The game is simple to navigate and the three levels are all very straight forward to complete.
You will grab 6 of the achievements from simply playing through, and completing the game. The other 6 will require you to know what you're doing as they won't come naturally.
There are a total of 3 levels in the game and each level is split into 2 stages.
Each of the three levels has a miscellaneous achievement tied to it and there is a collectible based one too. One achievement will require you to dodge the attack of a particular enemy 5 times and the final achievement will require you to beat the game without using a Vitality Vial, which is this games version of a first aid kit. You can however collect vitality orbs, which are scattered throughout the game, to replenish your health.
The game is great for anyone wanting to try out a new title and comes with easy achievements. The game shouldn't take you long at all; you'll easily have the full 200 gamer score in under 5 hours.
You play Haunt using the Kinect sensor so as you can expect, you're essentially the controller. The movements required are all very straight forward and are explained in game as you go. They range from you having to walk on the spot to move to leaning in a certain direction to dodge attacks.
I suggest following the guide to find all 13 newspaper clippings on your playthrough to save you having to redo parts. Also make sure you dodge the blue charger ghost whenever he shows up to knock that one out too.
As I mentioned before the only achievement which you might have some issues with is the one for completing the game without using any vitality vials. The third stage is the hardest in my opinion and since you can play them in any order I suggest knocking that one out first. The vials are used automatically if your health runs out so be aware of that. If you happen to use one by mistake then quit out as the game only saves after each stage. Please note, if you do quit out you will need to replay the stage again and collect any newspaper clippings again.
Once you finish all 3 stages and place the last flask you will have to fight all four types of ghost in one fight. This will be the hardest part of the game. Before you place the last flask you should make sure your health is full. If you need to top it up then you can replay any of the stages again. I would recommend stage 2 as it's the easiest.
I will explain how to get each achievement below. They are very straight forward and for the most part they are very easy.
Remember you must avoid using any vitality vials throughout the entire game. It's the hardest achievement but it still shouldn't cause you much trouble. Make full use of the vitality orbs and if you are having a bad run simply quit out and try again. Also, remember to make sure you have full health before you place the final flask as you'll be put against all 4 ghosts one after another. Once you learn how to beat a ghost it doesn't change it's tactics which makes the battles easier. As long as you remember to quit out and reload if you use a vial you should be fine.
There are a total of 12 achievements for the game, 6 of which are story related and you will obtain them automatically.
Those 6 achievements are as follows:
Smooth MoverRetrieve the Phantaflask from the Motility Vaults and return it to the statue
LuminaryRetrieve the Phantaflask from the Luminarium and return it to the statue
Hear, Hear!Retrieve the Phantaflask from the Auditory Annex and return it to the statue
You will want to keep an eye out for the 13 newspaper clippings as you play through. They aren't very well hidden and if you miss any you can simply replay any chapter at any time to get them. Here are the locations of all 13 clippings:
The first clipping is in the Grand Hall, to the left of the book where you can view the ones you have collected.
Motility Vaults (left door):
In the Tea Room (Stage 1)
In the Foreman’s Office, on the desk in front of you when you enter the room, it is behind some books. (Stage 1)
In the Security Room (Stage 2)
In the Vault (Stage 2)
Luminarium (middle door):
On the lunch table (Stage 1)
Once you fall down to the basement via the trapdoor, take the first right and at the end is a chest with the clipping (Stage 1)
In the Gentlemen’s Parlor (Stage 2)
In the Private Gallery on the wall (Stage 2)
Auditory Annex (right door):
In the Boudoir (Stage 1)
In the Library (Stage 1)
In the Listening Room (Stage 2)
In the Repository Room (Stage 2)
The clippings will be either on a shelf/desk or inside a draw/chest.
Collecting all 13 will net you the achievement.
Also, whilst you play through the game, keep an eye open for a blue ghost which will charge at you randomly throughout the levels. You will need to dodge five attacks by the ghost by following the motion which appears on screen. If you don't have it by the time you complete all 3 stages, you can replay any stage you like to get more chances. Dodging five times will net you the achievement.
As I previously mentioned there are 3 random achievements, 1 for each level in the game. Head to the Motility Vaults (left door) and work your way to the second stage. Once there you need to find the Security Room. In there is a projector, simply pull the lever and watch a film of you playing the game, filmed by the Kinect, to unlock the achievement.
Next, load up the Luminarium level (middle door) and work your way to the second stage. Once there find the room with the camera in it, head inside and enter the Dark Room. In here you need to get the camera flash from the chest and then head back and put it on the camera. Once you've done that, you're ready to take your picture. Simply activate the camera, once done you have a few seconds to stand in front of it so it can take your picture. When that's done head to the Gentlemen's Parlor to look at your picture on the wall and get your achievement. You should do this as soon as you reach stage 2 as there are reports that you can't see the picture later.
FramedPose for a photo and then admire the picture
Next load up the Auditory Annex level (right door) and on stage 1 there is a telephone in the Boudoir. The same room as a newspaper clipping. Pick up the ringing telephone and listen to some strange noises, and get your achievement. Some people say the phone won't always ring the first time you enter, if this is the case, simply head back to the room before you finish the stage.
If you followed this guide you should have all 12 achievements and you will have a new game added to your completion list.
