Welcome to Dinosaur Island, a DLC with an additional 10 achievements worth 500 Gamerscore. This island should take around 1-2 hours to play through.
When you first arrive on Dinosaur Island you’ll be greeted by Newton, a scientist pig. Newton is in debt from borrowing money to work on his inventions and needs your help. To start, we must clear the first area, Newton’s Lab, to get 30 coins to take care of Newton’s unpaid electric bill. As you’re clearing the area of litter and goop, you’ll likely notice the first lost fossil (1/20) just to the left of the Internet Machine (the teal building with a tall satellite tower). There are 20 total lost fossils, one to two in each area of Dinosaur Island, and they must be collected by walking over them – do not use your blaster as they are too delicate!
There is one small wave of Litterbugs to face in this area, so have some water handy for that, and you’ll also need to withdraw some Tax Tokens from the Tax Machine in this area to reset the recyclers once you’ve filled them. Finish clearing the area, save the Bankimals by filling them up and popping them for coins, and pay 30 coins to the Debt Machine to be able to unlock the gate to the next area.
Note: I didn’t see the usual “Area Cleared” message in this or the second area of the island, but I probably missed the notification while taking notes for this walkthrough. You can always look for the green smiley face icons in your Bankipedia to confirm which areas you’ve cleared.
I finished Newton’s Lab with 17 coins in the bank and 4 tax credits in the Tax Machine (plus 2 on my person). As soon as you open the Electric Gate to the next area you will unlock:
The second area of this island is Carnivore Cove. Start working on cleaning up and keep an eye out for two lost fossils. There is one lost fossil (2/20) behind the Recycling Machines and another behind the waterfall (3/20). There are two waves of Litterbugs here so keep your blaster topped off with water. This area is home to the first Apex Bankimal of the island: the T-Rex. As with previous Apex Bankimals you must first feed the T-Rex from a distance, then shoot food into its mouth to befriend it, after which Newton will summon you back to his lab to retrieve a saddle. I recommend popping the velociraptors here and cashing in your recyclables before you head back to the first area.
Once you return to Newton’s Lab and talk to Newton, you’ll need to pay 40 coins to the Debt Machine to unlock the Internet Machine, which holds Newton’s dinosaur saddle plans. Run back over to Newton and use your blaster to suck up the saddle. You can now ride the T-Rex! Head back to Carnivore Cove and mount the T-Rex with , then use to have it roar and break the amber barricade blocking the path to the next area. This will unlock:
Before heading anywhere, use the T-Rex’s roar to break all the amber in the first and second areas (one in the lab area and four in the cove). I finished Carnivore Cove with 81 coins in the bank and 13 tax credits in the Tax Machine (plus 2 on my person). You’ll want to stay on the T-Rex as you head to the next area as there’s a lost fossil (4/20) on the way that you can only reach while you’re on the mount.
The next area is Lava Falls which has loads of trash, a Silver Key, another lost fossil (5/20) atop some rock pillars in the lava area, and a Pigby’s Store that must be unlocked by paying off 60 coins in debt. There are also three waves of Litterbugs, including a Mega Bug, so keep your head on a swivel. To collect the key and fossil you must first clean the area. As you start cleaning, you’ll note that two plots require seeds that you must buy from Pigby. When you’re ready, pay 60 coins to the Debt Machine to unlock Pigby’s Store (accessed through the menu) and then buy, plant, and water two Ironwood Tree seeds.
Note: It may have been an anomaly, but I was stuck at 99% in this area until I noticed a random bottle that was on the beach leading back to the cove area. Check there if you’re missing any trash.
Once you save all the Bankimals and get the “Area Cleared” message, one of the ankylosaurs will knock over a rock pillar allowing you to safely access the Silver Key and fossil collectible. With the Silver Key in hand head back to Newton’s Lab. I finished Lava Falls with 144 coins in the bank and 28 tax credits in the Tax Machine (plus 2 on my person).
When you unlock the gate with the Silver Key, Newton will inform you that the Giant Tax Bot in Newton’s Lab is out of power. It needs a battery, but we won’t get that until we clear a few more areas so don’t worry about it for now. Head into the next area, Frosty Fields. From where you enter this area, look to the left of the large pink tree in the back. You’ll notice a lost fossil (6/20) on top of a rock formation. There’s also another lost fossil (7/20) on ground level just to the right of the large pink tree. This area has three waves of Litterbugs, with another Mega Bug to face as well. You’ll also note that there’s more amber to smash with the T-Rex, which you can summon with , then . After you’ve cleared all the litter and goop you’ll need to buy, plant, and water two Plate Plant seeds. Additionally, there are two plots which need to be built by your Build Bot (press , then ). Your Build Bot will require some litter to function, so keep some handy.
Note: If you got a little carried away with the recycling before you realized you need 10 plastic bottles and 10 cans, don’t worry! You can shoot coins into the Recycling Machines to get litter back (1 coin = 10 rubbish).
When you’ve built up those two plots you must then buy, plant, and water two Twisted Thistle seeds. At some point in this Frosty Fields area, you’ll get notified that you can now buy additional dinosaur saddles from Pigby’s Store. You must buy two more saddles for achievements, so let’s take care of both of these while the newly spawned Bankimals in this area are fattening up. Go into Pigby’s Store in the menu and buy the Ankylosaur Saddle and the Raptor Saddle for 50 total coins. Once you grab these with your blaster head back to the previous areas to ride an ankylosaur and velociraptor to unlock:
Once you’ve grabbed both of those achievements go back to Frosty Fields and finish saving the Bankimals there. When you get the “Area Cleared” message a short cutscene will play where a brachiosaurus forms a bridge to the next area for you. I finished Frosty Fields with 197 coins in the bank and 44 tax tokens in the Tax Machine (plus 2 on my person).
The bridge leads to Ice Age Pass. This area has two waves of Litterbugs and seven spots requiring use of your Build Bot, including two recyclers. Start this area by building up all the different plots, using the available litter to activate the bot each time. Once they’re all built you can start recycling any extra litter for coins. When all of the plots are built, you’ll need to buy, plant, and water three Fangbush seeds and two Iced Eleplant seeds. Feed and pop the Bankimals to get the “Area Cleared” message, after which the mammoth will break down the ice wall revealing a path up the tree tunnel. Go through this tree tunnel to the next area and collect the lost fossil (8/20). I finished Ice Age Pass with 140 coins in the bank (plus 103 on my person – you must have at least 50 on your person for the next area) and 55 tax tokens in the Tax Machine (plus 2 on my person).
The next area is Venus’s Lair, where we will finally get the battery we need for the Giant Tax Bot back in Newton’s Lab. Unlike other areas, there’s nothing really to clear here except for one amber to break with the T-Rex (summon with , then ) and another lost fossil (9/20) behind the Venus Debt Trap. To get the battery you must shoot 50 coins into the Venus Debt Trap’s mouth. Once you’ve got the battery head back to Newton’s Lab and shoot it into the Giant Tax Bot, which will unlock:
Insert battery into Giant Tax Bot
The Giant Tax Bot wants 40 tax tokens for back taxes owed by Newton. Head to the Tax Machine and withdraw at least 40 (I like having 2 extra for emptying recyclers). Once paid, the tax gate will disappear allowing you to proceed to the next area.
Upon arriving in Redwood Coast walk forward and to your left. There’ll be a short cutscene mentioning a tax bridge. Continue forward, hugging the left side of this area until you reach the start of unbuilt bridge. Look down to spot a lost fossil (10/20). In the main area here you’ll also notice another lost fossil (11/20) that can only be reached while mounted on the T-Rex (summon with , then ). While you’ve got the T-Rex handy go ahead and break the two ambers in this area. At this point you can start cleaning the area. Be sure to save your litter for the seven Build Bot spots. There are three waves of Litterbugs to fend off, and two of these come with a Mega Bug so having a full tank of water is important here! When you’ve got all the plots built go ahead and buy, plant, and water two Thornberry Bush seeds and two Snapper Plant seeds. After you pop the Bankimals one of the dinosaurs will claw the vines away from the nearby gate, allowing you to open it and proceed. I finished Redwood Coast with 215 coins in the bank and 25 tax tokens in the Tax Machine (plus 2 on my person).
The next area, Bird Bay, has three more fossils to grab. You’ll probably see one of these floating above a large rock formation in the water. There’s another one out of reach just opposite the Pteranodon rock statue in this area. We can’t grab these two just yet so walk forward and follow the beach to the back-left corner where you can grab a lost fossil (12/20) on the ground. There are two waves of Litterbugs in this area, and the first wave has two Mega Bugs. In the very middle of this area you’ll find a Pteranodon, the other Apex Bankimal of Dinosaur Island. It’s got some litter in its throat which you can dislodge with your blaster’s suction function. Once that’s done, you’ll need to feed it, but you must do so while it’s flying for an achievement. In order to get the required food item, you first have to clear a plant plot directly behind where it was originally sitting. After you’ve cleared that spot, use your Build Bot (deploy with [cn_y], then ) and then buy, plant, and water a Fishgrass seed. You’ll also need to use your Build Bot on the two recycler spots as well. Once the Fishgrass tree is fully grown collect some fishberries and shoot them into the Pteranodon’s mouth while it’s flying to unlock:
When you’ve fully fed the Pteranodon and saved it, Newton will let you know that he wants to build you a saddle for riding it. However, he first needs a gyroscope. We’ll have to go back to the Venus Debt Trap in Venus’s Lair to purchase Newton’s gyroscope back. Before you leave the bay be sure to summon the T-Rex and break up the three ambers here if you haven’t already done so. I finished Bird Bay with 207 coin in the bank (plus 85 on my person – you need 75 to get the gyroscope) and 33 tax tokens in the Tax Machine (plus 2 on my person). Once you shoot the required 75 coins into the Venus Debt Trap’s mouth, you’ll get the gyroscope and also unlock:
With the gyroscope in hand head back to Newton’s Lab and shoot it into his laboratory’s slot to get the saddle. Feel free to summon the Pteranodon with , then and then ride it back to the Bird Bay area. Newton will tell you to fly to Amber Cliffs to look for the Gold Key but ignore him for now because we still have to gather some fossils that we couldn’t get to earlier. In Bird Bay, if you remember, there’s one lost fossil (13/20) high up on a rocky ledge, just opposite the Pteranodon rock statue in the center area. There’s another lost fossil (14/20) on the stone pillar in the water. Immediately after grabbing the fossil on the pillar in the water turn to your right and fly through the round opening into a cave-like area. If you fly through the left side of the caves, you’ll pick up a floating lost fossil (15/20). Now turn around and head in the direction of Amber Cliffs, which is where the unbuilt bridge leads. As you fly this way, look out to sea to your right and you should see three small platforms just above the water. The middle one has another lost fossil (16/20). Now head to Amber Cliffs and, when you’re facing the shoreline, look right to see one lost fossil (17/20) on the ground and another (18/20) through a round opening you can fly through. Finally, circle back around to Amber Cliffs and dismount. There’s one more lost fossil (19/20) here just behind the huge tree with the amber chunk at its base.
As Newton will have informed you by now, you need the T-Rex to break open the amber and get the Gold Key, but first you must clear the area and use the Tax Builder to create a bridge. Get to cleaning, but keep in mind that you will have to deal with three Mega Bugs at once in this area. When you get the “Area Cleared” message you can then spend 10 tax tokens at the Tax Builder to unlock the bridge (there’s a Tax Machine just opposite the Tax Builder to withdraw tokens from). This will unlock:
You can now cross over the bridge back to Redwood Coast where you can summon the T-Rex and ride it back across the bridge to Amber Cliffs where you can then break open the six ambers (five small, one large). Now that we’ve finally got the Gold Key, we must head back to Venus’s Lair to use it. I summoned the Pteranodon to speed things up. I finished Amber Cliffs with 253 coins in the bank and 26 tax tokens in the Tax Machine.
Once you unlock the gate with the Gold Key and take your first steps into Exit Island, you’ll see a short cutscene of a Mega Bug eating the Exit Bot (which we need to use to leave the island) and then exploding, sending Exit Bot shrapnel everywhere. You didn’t think we were done yet, did you? We now have to gather up all of the pieces of the poor Exit Bot scattered throughout the island, but first walk forward and to your left to find the final lost fossil (20/20) and unlock:
Now get back on the Pteranodon and fly to Newton’s Lab to get his special compass which points to the lost pieces of the Exit Bot. Suck up the compass with your blaster, mount the Pteranodon again, and fly in the direction the arrow on your saddle points. The first piece of the broken bot is literally right above the gate leading to Carnivore Cove. Collecting this will unlock the final achievement for this DLC:
It’s up to you if you want to gather the remaining pieces or not. I did, as it’s a pretty easy loop around the island and takes less than five extra minutes. My stats for Dinosaur Island were 100% completion, 809 coins earned, 0 debt, 78 tax paid, and 20 fossils found.
Thanks for reading! If you also have the Fantasy Island DLC then continue to the next page for that portion of the walkthrough!
