4. King's Quest Chapter 1: Entering the TournamentUpdate notes

Upon reaching the bottom of the cliff, head to the right along the path. After the cutscene, try blowing on the horn to find out you are missing something.

Turn around and head up the left path. Follow it to the end where the river blocks your way, don't cross it yet!

Instead, turn around and continue downwards on the path to a red tree.

Image 9

Shake the tree, and inspect the tool box that falls to the ground to collect 'A Small Hatchet'.

Now it's time to cross the river using the stepping stones. Notice there is a broken wheel to your right, continue along the path to the left.

Here we meet the Merchant of Miracles. Go to the front of his wagon, and use 'A Small Hatchet' on the Unicorns (goats with paper horns) four times in a row to unlock:

Follow the path back towards the unicorns. We need to find a way to cross the water. Use 'A Small Hatchet' on the huge tree next to the river, and cross over.

Continue along the path, through the dark undergrowth until you reach a gate, only to find it's locked.

Climb the wall covered in vines (right-hand side), and walk forward into the middle of Daventry Village. Directly in front of you should be a small tree.

There are three choices in deciding what to use as a wheel.

Image 1

Bravery The Blacksmith - The shop is located on the bottom left of the sapling. Here you will find a shield on the wall behind the counter. After you have your item, go to the counter and bring up your inventory. Use 'The Only Money to My Name' on the tip tray to pay for it (this is optional). Leave the shop and return to the brown gate.

Image 4

Compassion The Bakery - The shop is located on the bottom right of the sapling. Here you will find a huge round loaf on the wall behind the counter. After you have your item, go to the counter and bring up your inventory. Use 'The Only Money to My Name' on the tip tray to pay for it (this is optional). Leave the shop and return to the brown gate.

Image 2

Wisdom The Magic Shop - The shop is located upstairs towards the top right of the sapling. Here you will find a table top towards the back of the shop. After you have your item, go to the counter and bring up your inventory. Use 'The Only Money to My Name' on the tip tray to pay for it (this is optional). Leave the shop and return to the brown gate.

Image 3

After exiting, turn 180 degrees and close The gate. Time to make our way back to the Merchant.

Follow the path, and a wolf will jump out in front of you creating a shortcut. Follow the newly made path straight back to the river.

Cross over the tree bridge, and present the Merchant with 'A Wheel'. During the cutscene, you will have the opportunity to buy an 'Entrance Ticket' this is not essential to progress in the story, but buy it if you wish.

After the cutscene, go talk to the guards behind the bunting to find out you have to cross the river in order to continue.

For our next achievement, follow the path that winds down towards the river. Walk past the tree, continuing past the stepping stones, and stop at the reeds.

Image 3

Stand on the embankment behind the right most reed, and walk out across the water continue to the other side to unlock:

Graham the Basilisk

Walked on Water.

Cross the stepping stones to your left. Jump off of the last stone into the water, the guards will now rush down to save you from drowning.

Whilst the guards are arguing amongst themselves, shake the tree to the left of them to knock down a beehive, thus clearing your way. Return up the hill to where the Merchant dropped you off, and walk towards the other contestants.

Image 10

Try blowing on the horn situated to their right, but it doesn't work, we are still missing something.

Next to the horn is 'A Rope', pick it up. After the short cutscene, aim at the tree before shooting in it's direction. Unfortunately you aren't skilled enough to hit it yet.

Notice the huge tree on the opposite side of path from the horn. Walk up to it and use 'A Small Hatchet' to chop it down.

During the cutscene, notice that the tree lands near the stepping stones. Make your way back down the hill, and try to cross the stepping stones for another cutscene. Sigh!

Open your inventory, and use 'A Small Hatchet' on the the tree that is now laying upon the embankment. Stand next to the logs you have just created, and use 'A Rope' from your inventory to create a 'Raft'.

Use the raft to paddle to the other side. After meeting Manny, try following him, but you will find out you can't.

Walk to the left to find a vine with small hand sized rocks, climb up and enter the Main Hall.

During the cutscene, you will be asked why you are late, pick any answer.

Image 4

It's now time to mingle. Go to the left of the stage.

You will see a large man with bullhorns. Introduce yourself by saying, 'I'm Graham', to find out he is called Acorn. Also ask him what he is hiding, but he won't tell you, so exit the conversation.

Continue to the middle of the stage and ask the contestant that's in between two guards his name. Unfortunately he expects you to know it, so say 'I'll be right back'.

Continue to the right of the stage, and talk to the tall man beside Manny to Learn his name is Achaka. He will give you the same answer to any question you ask him.

Talk to Manny. Ask him about Acorn to find out about his squirrel. Ask him about Achaka to find out he is the overall favourite to win the contest.

Walk all the way back across the hall to Acorn (the one with the bullhorns). Select 'I found out what you're hiding', then 'does your squirrel have a name'.

Return to the contestant in the middle between the two guards, and select 'Whisper' when asked his name.

Return to Manny and ask about Whisper. Go up the stairs to the stage, and speak to the guard

Answer with 'Let's do it!'

Chivalry Test

Question one - Manny

Question two - Achaka

Question three - Sir Walter Harris Ignatius Sally Percival Eduardo Ramon Jr. The Third of Modesto

Question four - Princess Madeline of Avalon

During the cutscene, we learn that we need an eye to gain entrance into the competition. Cross the makeshift bridge to meet Amaya the Blacksmith.

Follow the path, and take the first left. Continue around the pumpkin patch, and head up towards the village centre where the sapling is. Click on the tree for a pun.

First, go left to enter The Blacksmiths, and ask Amaya both questions. When you choose the 'Bye' option, she will tell you to keep the main gate shut, otherwise wolves will get in. Have a look around the shop, then leave.

Next, go to The Bakery (the shop under the stairs), and ask all three questions. Wente will tell you he needs some ingredients for baking, have a look around the shop, and leave.

Head up the stairs to The Magic shop, and ask all three questions. The Hobblepots want you to bring them something to use as a lantern, as well as Tooth Whitening ingredients. Take a look around the shop and leave.

If you manage to help Amaya keep the gate shut for the entirety of the game, help Wente prevent the bakers picnic from being destroyed. and help the Hobblepots with their potion, you will receive:

Helping Hat

Saved a Picnic, Got a Wedzel Patch, Completed the Potion.

Let's start by collecting some ingredients for Wente. After leaving The Magic Shop, head out of town by following the bottom path, once you pass under the archway, take the first right. Continue right past the statue, and you will come to a trap, walk forward and fall through the leaves.

Image 6

Down the hole on the side of the back wall, you will see 'Pink Sugarshrooms' collect them. then climb up the ladder.

Image 5

Look at the red rope that's holding up the steak. Pull the other end of the rope that is knotted to a tree to collect 'Raw Meat'.

Follow the path to the right, and keep going right indefinitely. You should arrive at a picnic table. Notice there is a beehive hanging above the picnic in the same tree as the Starberries. Highlight the table, and read 'Love Letter'.

In order not to ruin the picnic collecting Starberries, we will need something else. Return back to the archway leading to the village by following the path left indefinitely.

After reaching the archway, walk down the path (towards the bottom of your TV screen), and you should be back at the pumpkin patch. Try grabbing the pumpkin, but you will notice it is infested with squirrels.

From here, go all the way left.

Image 7

Up against a tree, you will see a 'Fruit Picker', which was previously unattainable due a guard holding it.

Head right and back up the path, walk through the village until you reach the brown gate. Pass through the gate, remembering to close it behind you. Head along the bottom left path, to your right will be an Orange Rustling Bush.

Image 11

Walk up to the bush, and use 'Raw Meat' to unlock:

Misteak

Fed a steak to a Wedzel Wolf.

Climb back over the wall, and head down the path through the village all the way back to the pumpkin patch. Before we get rid of the beehive, there is another missable achievement to obtain.

From the pumpkin, head right, then turn down on to the bottom path, keep going until you see a Green Rustling Bush.

Image 12

Yet again, walk up to the bush and use 'Raw Meat'. Collect 'A Nasty Badger'.

Head back to Davenport Village, going the way you just came. Walk upstairs to The Magic Shop, and dunk 'A Nasty Badger' in the cauldron to make him purple.

Finally time to save the picnic! Return to the picnic area by walking down the path towards the archway, then right indefinitely.

Once at the picnic table, shake the tree to the right (the one with the beehive in it). Use 'A Nasty Badger I Dyed Purple' on the beehive to unlock:

Purple Badger Don't Care

A Dyed Badger ate Bees.

Collect the fallen 'Starberries' located on the ground next to the picnic table. Follow the path left indefinitely, and return to the village archway. Follow the path down to the pumpkin patch, and use 'A Nasty Purple Badger' on the pumpkin. Return to the village centre by walking up the path (towards the top of your TV screen).
