3. Story walkthrough - Part 1

As stated before, this game requires a minimum of two playthroughs. Most of the collectibles in story missions cannot be unlocked outside of Free Play. We will play through the story first on this playthrough, getting as much as we can out of each level. You can of course ignore all collectibles in this playthrough if you wish, obtaining them all on your second playthrough. With each level, the Citizens in Peril, Minikits and various other interesting points will be noted. Use the Free Play walkthrough for the list of all collectibles, including which characters you need to obtain them.

When you're ready, select New Game, and get ready for talking lego characters!

1. Theatrical Pursuits

Before you move, grab a second controller, press Start and play this in co-op. There is an achievement waiting for you at the end of the level. In the first room, go to the very left. There is a Citizen in Peril standing on a table, with a goon nearby. Defeat the badguy! Build the stairs near the stage, and use the Batarangs (hold X) to defeat Harley. Follow her through the stage.

Here you will find the first save point. Use these whenever you find them to save checkpoints. Hit the large brass instrument three times to reveal The Riddler. Follow him to the right. Here, you will face many bad guys. Allow 3 or 4 to accumulate, and then attack them with X, one by one. This builds a combo. You will then see a 'B' appear, informing you that you can do a finishing move on the next set of goons. Press B for your first achievement.

Once the goons have been defeated, jump through the windows at the back of the area to collect a Minikit #5. At the left side of the stage area, grapple upwards (hold X) to get to the higher part of the stage. Grapple the next target, and then (whilst still grappled), grapple across to the right side. Move towards the screen and knock down the object there. Jump down, and build the Batman Suit Signal. Jump (Batman) into it to use the Sensor Suit. Press B to use invisibility, then move right. In the first room, there is a goon and the power box for the security camera. Destroy the power box to shut down the camera, allowing Robin to progress. Both Batman and Robin need to grapple at the end of this area to open the door.

Move forward, defeat the goons and then use the Sensor Suit's X-Ray Vision on the green wall, by pressing B. You must find the Riddler behind the wall. Find him and then press X. Do this three times to reveal The Riddler. Now defeat him any way you wish. Build an elevator from the broken walls to move on.

Break the stand on the left and build the Robin Suit Signal. Have Robin change in to the Acrobat Suit. While wearing this suit, hold X to find places for the Acrobat Pole. It is to the left of the Suit Signal. Double jump to it, and then jump right to the statue's trumpet, and right again to the higher floor. Two-Face will appear. Break the objects to the left (or right) of the upper area, and then build the grapple for Batman. Once both characters are on the upper floor, have Batman use Invisibility to move past the security cameras at the back of the room. Break the chairs, and build the station for the Ball Socket. As Robin, press B to use the Acrobat Ball, and move to this newly built object. Run on the spot to lower Two-Face. Finish him off to clear the stairs of citizens.

Before moving on, have Robin use the Acrobat Poles on the right hand side of the room to reach Minikit #9. Now move through the door at the top of the stairs. Hit The Joker three times (I used Batarangs) and he will move to the central area. Whilst doing this, look out for two green windows (1, 2) at the left side of the room, and a third green window (3) at the right side of the room for Minikit #10. Now use Sensor Suit's X-Ray Vision on the box to the right of the room. Turn both of objects so they are linked to smash a way to the next section. Build a Zip Wire with the broken parts to get down. Jump towards it to use it, ending the level. This will earn you the "Theatrical Pursuits" achievement, and assuming you played in Co-op, the "Dynamic Duo" achievement.

When you Continue, you will notice that you are in the city of Gotham. There is a very large map here, which is mostly free-roam. On your minimap above your health bar, you will notice various icons. Follow the Batsignal to find the next story level. Jump down and follow the pink studs to start the next mission. Feel free to mess about in the city a bit if you want, but for the purpose of this walkthrough, let's assume you just go from story mission to story mission.

Destroy the objects where the bat signal is and build the Batman Suit Signal. Change to the Sensor Suit and go to the nearby green box. Use the X-Ray Vision and press X on each of the switches. Now build the Robin Suit Signal and change to the Acrobat Suit. Press B to use the Acrobat Ball and move in to the Ball Socket near the shore. Run on the spot to move a box on to the land. From the broken pieces, build a terminal. Press B to use it, and call in Robin's Helicopter. Press Y to use it, activating the start of level 2.

2. Harboring a Criminal

There are a few things we can do in this start area. Firstly, move all the way to right of the area to find the Citizen in Peril with two goons. Defeat them to save the citizen. Nearby, to the right of Robin's Helicopter, there is a blue poster (1). There is another blue poster (2) in front of the theater, and two more blue posters (3, 4) to the left of the area.

Use a batarang to destroy the two lights/switches above the trailer, to the left of Robin's Helicopter. Destroy the object inside and build the Batman Suit Signal. Change in to the Power Suit. You can now destroy all those pesky shiny silver objects. Press B to launch explosives and hold B to detonate them. Go around the area destroying all shiny silver objects. The movie poster on the left side of the theater will reveal Minikit #2. The spotlight by this poster will reveal some bricks. From these bricks, build a bicycle. Ride the bike (Y) and follow the trail of studs to collect Minikit #3.

Destroy the spotlight on the right side of the theater. From these bricks, build a Robin Suit Signal. Use robin to change to the Magnet Suit. From here, use the Magnet Suit's magnet ability (hold B) to destroy the movie poster. The movie poster will break, allowing you to rebuild it in to a blue poster. Destroy this for Minikit #4.

Once the right-most poster is out of the way, it will allow the Magnet Suit to climb the wall. Climb up with Robin and then grapple up in the centre to move up the building. Jump to the left and make your way upwards. Use the Magnet Suit to pull the blue pieces down to create a walkway up, allowing access to the right. Defeat the goon, and pull the switch. Change the Batman and make your way up to reunite with Robin.

There is an orange handle directly in front of you when you arrive up with Batman. Mash B with the Power Suit to pull the handle. Now use Robin's Magnet Suit to pull down the ladder. Climb the ladder and use the explosives from Batman's Power Suit to destroy the shiny object ahead. Now switch back to Robin's Magnet Suit and hold B to create a walkway. Walk over and use the Magnet Suit once more to uncover a grapple. Use Batman's Power Suit to destroy the spotlight on the left of this area, and build a Zip Wire. Zip across.

Before moving up the tower, take the ladder down. After the first ladder, move round to the left to find Minikit #5. Now climb back up, and grapple above you. Move across the building and use the Magnet Suit to uncover another grapple. Grapple up, and move around to the back of the tower where you find Minikit #6. Now switch to Batman's Power Suit and pull the handle. Now climb all the way (drop down in the centre part of the tower) to the bottom and build your Robin's Helicopter. The first part of the helicopter was directly in front of it when you began the level. The second part of the helicopter is dropped when Robin lowers the elevator. The third and final part was dropped when Batman pulled the handle at the very top of the tower. Once built, press Y to climb in the Helicopter.

After the cut-scene, you will in a battle against Joker in vehicles. Hit (or Hold) X to shoot. Look out for the two rollercoaster cars, as hitting both will earn you Minikit #7. Don't worry if you miss them, the chase goes round in a cycle, so you can get them next time around. Just don't defeat Joker too quickly. Once you've hit both, defeat Joker's vehicle (he has four lives).

In the next section, don't defeat Joker too soon. Go around destroying everything. There one car (1) at the front (towards the screen) centre, to the left of the checkpoint. Another car (2) appears on the right side of the area. There are two cars (3, 4) on the left side of the area, one at the front, and one at the back, giving you Minikit #8. Also on the left side of the area is a Go Kart (near the screen). Climb in (Y) and drive to reveal Minikit #9.

Now move to the digger on the left side of the area. Use Batman's Power Suit to blow up the shiny silver holding up the bucket. With the pieces from the bucket, build a cannon. Use the spinners to turn the cannon, so that it is aiming towards The Joker. Once in the correct position, use Batman's Power Suit to pull the handle. Run to the back right to build a clown from the new bricks. Destroy the clown's teeth with Batman's explosives, and then build the magnet pathway from what is left. Climb to the top of the area with the Magnet Suit and destroy the box on the higher level. Use the Magnet ability to destroy the swinging sign.

Joker will then bring in some more goons and a dodgem. This dodgem has missiles! Use the Power Suit's explosives to destroy part of the dodgems. Now switch to Robin and use his Magnet Suit to pull the dodgems apart. Switch back to Batman and use more explosives to destroy the dodgems. From the broken parts, build a giant hammer. Finally, use the Power Suit to pull the handle at the base of the hammer to complete the level, unlocking the "Harboring a Criminal" achievement.

When you continue, use the terminal ahead of you. Select any of the vehicles available to you. The Batmobile and Bat Bike are now both unlocked. Regardless of which vehicle you pick, climb in with Y. There are five shiny silver statues around. Drive around and destroy each of them with your weapons (X for gun, B to bombs). Once destroyed, follow the pink studs to the Batcave. Just before the cave, there is a terminal (indicated by a large arrow). Use the terminal to enter the Batcave. Follow the pink studs to the left to begin the next level.

Once you regain control, move to the centre of the Batcave and use the console. After the short cut-scene, use the console once more. You now have an upgrade, which allows you to see Emergencies. Find the red exclamation mark on the map, and press Y to scan. Now press A on the beacon to make a waypoint. When you regain control again, follow the pink studs to the Emergency. You will need to get out of the vehicle and activate a terminal to cross to Arkham Asylum. Driving forward starts the new level.

3. Arkham Asylum

The level starts in a maze, chasing Catwoman on her bike. Move around to the right. You will see a fountain. Use batarangs to stop the fountain and then build a pull handle. Use the grapple to target it, revealing a Robin Suit Signal. Change to Robin and use the newly revealed Acrobat Suit. Throw an Acrobat Pole to the right, and then jump across.

Move around slightly and climb on the wall. Build the grapple hooks for Batman to climb across. The other side of this wall is a giant statue with a top hat. Jump on the acrobat pole with Robin to bring the hat down. From these bricks, build a Batman Suit Signal. Change in to Batman's Power Suit and then destroy the statue with explosives to reveal Minikit #3.

Continue moving around the maze in an anti-clockwise direction and you will see another shiny silver statue above. Use the Power Suit to destroy this. The fallen statue destroys Catwoman's bike. Move past Catwoman, and Two-Face will appear. As you continue around the outside, you will see a wall and a statue which can both be destroyed by the Power Suit. Do this and build the Ball Socket. Change to Robin, press B to enter the Acrobat Ball and then use it on the Ball Socket to direct the Batman Suit Signal across the wall to the right. Change to Batman and change into the Bat Suit. The Bat Suit has a Sonic Gun which can break glass. Go right to find the glass archway and hold B to shatter it. The debris helps to defeat Two-Face's Truck.

Go left and then down and you will find some water falling. Move past this to find a glass door. Behind this is Minikit #4. Go back to where the glass archway was and move down into the centre of the maze. Bane will appear. Keep moving down, staying left and you will see a place to drop down. Destroy the boulders here and from the debris, build another Batman Suit Signal. Change into the Power Suit. Go back up and right (not back through the archway). On your way round, you will find a handle. Use the Power Suit to pull the handle to reveal Minikit #10. Continue round until you see two areas to grapple. Grapple with both players to reveal a Robin Suit Signal. Change into the Ice Suit.

Change back into Batman's Power Suit and find the shiny silver statue in the centre of the maze. Destroy this to reveal some water. Freeze the water with Robin's Ice Suit by holding B. This will destroy Bane's vehicle too and end the level, unlocking the "Arkham Asylum Antics" achievement.

After the mission, follow the pink studs and talk to Gordon with B to start the next mission.

4. Asylum Assignment

First of all, break the objects at the top of the room to build the Robin Suit Signal. Use Robin to change to the Hazard Suit. With this, you can use X or B to put out fires. Put out the fire to the right and move past. Drop in to the pool of water with Robin. Press the switch to the right to raise a Batman Suit Signal. Use Batman and change to the Electricity Suit. Now cross the electrified pathway, and press the switch to the right. Switch back to Robin and move right (still under water). Break the objects in front of you to raise some platforms for Batman.

Jump across the platforms and press the next switch. This turns off the underwater fan. Switch back to Robin and pass the inactive fans. As you pass the first one, go left to find Minikit #1. Now move right and press the next switch to reveal yet another switch for Batman. Use Batman to use the switch, which feeds Killer Croc a chicken, and opens the next door for Robin. Switch back to Robin, move forward and hold A to swim up to where Killer Croc is. I found this more difficult than it should have been. Perservere! To the left of Killer Croc is Minikit #2. Go back down and destroy everything here to open up the path for Batman above.

Switch to Batman and move right. Destroy the computer desk and build from the debris. Have Robin climb in the cage, and use Batman to turn the cage. Change to Robin, and move right. Now hold A to escape from the water once more. Aim water above the gears with Robin to move on. Go upstairs and press the switch to freeze the water nearby. Now climb up the ice. Break the objects in the water here to create two fountains. Break the objects to the right to reveal a Robin Suit Signal. Use Robin to change in to the Ice Suit.

Freeze the water fountains, and then the water at the back of the room. Now climb up, go round to the left and jump across the newly created ice platforms. Use the Ice Suit to move through the Freeze Jets. Now turn the switch ahead to turn off the Freeze Jet, allowing Batman a way through. Move forward and use Batman's Electricity Suit to climb the ladder on the left. Use the switch up here to turn of the electricity on the ladder. Climb the ladder with Robin, and then climb on to the ice wall, moving to the other side. Jump down the hole here and use the switch. This will reveal a turn switch, which turns off the Freeze Jets. Climb back up and freeze the wall again with Robin. Switch to Batman and climb the ice wall, moving across to the right. Use the electrified switch, and have both players stand on the switches in the elevator.

From this new area, move right. Have Robin change to the Acrobat Suit. On the wall to the left of this suit is an Acrobat Pole. Jump up and then right across to Minikit #7. To the left of the TV screens is a switch. Press this with Batman to reveal a Ball Socket. Switch to Robin, press B to enter the Acrobat Ball, and then use it on the station in front of you. Watch the large screen in the centre and direct the stud through the maze. This brings a box to where you are. Use a grapple on the box and build the Batman Suit Signal within.

Change in to the Sensor Suit with Batman. Use Invisibility (B) and move left, pass the security cameras at the top of the stairs, and press the switch to deactivate them. With Robin, switch back to the Ice Suit, return to the top of the stairs and put out the flames. Move forward and follow the Scarecrow. In this next area, use the Sensor Suit's X-Ray Vision on the large panel. Press X to move the pieces so that green extends from left to right. This moves a bridge in to place. Move across, and freeze the water with the Ice Suit. Climb up and press the switch. Move across the next bridge, and then go left and up. With Batman, move to the wall on the left and use the Sensor Suit's X-Ray vision once more. Move the power cell on the left all the way to the right to create some stairs.

Follow the stairs up, and move forward towards Scarecrow. Have one player jump on the Acrobat stick on the left, and the other player use the switch. Defeat the goons, and then attack Scarecrow a few times to injure him. He retreats after three hits. Repeat this twice. After defeating the goons a third time, build from the objects at the back of the room. Turn the lever on the right to lower something to grab on to. Have one player grab on, and then turn the lever again to lift them. Once at the top, use the switch. Do the same on the left hand side. Now defeat Scarecrow, unlocking the "Asylum assignment" achievement.

Jump in the Batmobile and follow the pink studs. When you get to the blockade, you will notice that the switch is covered in electricity. Rather fortunately, there is an Electricity Suit just to the left. Change into the Electricity Suit with Batman, use the switch, and then continue following the Pink studs to find the beginning of the next level.

5. Chemical Crisis

Break the objects next to the contained Suit Signal. Build a switch and then use it to reveal the Suit Signal. Change to Robin and climb in to the Hazard Suit. The Hazard Suit can be used to clean up all the chemicals dotted around the area. When empty, you must refill it by jumping into the water. Jump into the water with Robin's Hazard Suit and press the switch. Jump up to the right of this area, and turn the lever.

Go through the now-open gate. Jump in the pool of green chemicals. Now break the objects around the lever before using it. Jump into the water and then clean the green chemicals to reveal the Electricity Suit. Switch to Batman, use the suit, and then climb the ladder behind you. Move around to the left and pull the lever. Go back to the ladder and press the switch to deactivate the electricity. Switch to Robin, climb the ladder, and then jump down the hole into the water below. Press the switch at the end.

Clean the area of chemicals with the Hazard Suit, and then build the Robin Suit Signal for the Magnet Suit. Use the Magnet Suit to climb the blue pipes, and the Electricity Suit to climb the ladder. At the top, use Robin's Magnet Suit to pull the blue object on the left, revealing another switch. Pull the switch with Batman, then turn the lever that appears. Cross the bridge that appears, and use the Magnet Suit to uncover the ladder. Reconstruct the next bridge/platform, and then move across. In the next area, you must climb on the conveyor-belt to the right to move across. Once across, use the Magnet Suit on the blue objects in the chemicals. Climb on them to get to the upper area. Use the lever up here.

There are more platforms to jump across now. Use Batman's Electricity Suit to use the switch. Now change to Robin and change to the Hazard Suit. You must shoot liquid of various colours in to their corresponding tubes. Jump in the liquid to fill your container, and then shoot with X or B. Change to Batman, jump in the water, and then climb up to the other side. Pull the switch so Robin can follow. Clean the chemicals from the area, and then push the next switch. In the next area, move to the right and climb up the pipes with Batman and use the switch. Climb back down, and then use a batarang on the upper-left to bring down a ladder. Climb up with Robin and use the switch. Now jump down the hole here. Move to the centre, float to the top with A, then use this switch to remove the water. Go back down and turn the final lever.

After the cut-scene, use the checkpoint and move right. Break the objects to the left, and build from their debris to create a pool of water. Use the water to clear the area of chemicals and fire. Behind the fire are bricks to build a Robin Suit Signal. Build it and use the Acrobat Suit. Throw an Acrobat Pole up the left and then jump across to the right. Once across, use the Acrobat Ball to build a bridge for Batman. Use Batman to press the first switch. Now use the second switch, and build the Batman Suit Signal. Change in to the Power Suit and use it to pull the handle to the right. Use explosives on the pipes to the left, and then use Robin's Acrobat Suit to climb up. Build the grapple for Batman and then move on.

Use Batman's Power Suit to pull the handle once more, and then use Robin's Acrobat Suit to jump up the walls to the next area. Break the ladder to allow Batman to join him. Use Batman's explosives (twice) to create a path to the right. Destroy the consoles in the lower part of this area for bricks to build the station for the Acrobat Ball. Change to Robin's Acrobat Ball, and move into the Ball Socket. Move the cursor to the pipe on the left and press X. Now do the same for the pipe on the right. Now climb the stairs and move across the now ice-free area. Move to the right, use Batman's Power Suit to pull the handle, and then Robin's Acrobat Suit to jump up the wall. At the top, use the Acrobat Ball to lower the platform for Batman so he can move to the other side. As Batman, change into the Electricity Suit, grapple up and pull the switch. Now you will need Robin's Acrobat Poles to jump across to the right. Once across, pull the left switch to allow Batman to join you. Use Batman's Electricity Suit to pull the switch.

And here's where Superman appears as a controllable character for the first time! Yay! Switch to him and hold B to put out the fire (1) to the left of the area. Now double jump to fly to unlock the "It's A Bird... It's A Plane..." achievement.

Fly up to the next area and use his super strength to pull the orange handle. Water will rush out to put out the fires. Use Superman's Freeze Breath to turn the water to ice, allowing all characters to climb up. Move to the right and use Superman's Freeze Breath to put out another fire (2). Break the objects here, and build the Batman Suit Signal, allowing Batman to use his Power Suit. Use Batman's explosives to reveal Robin's Hazard Suit. Now switch back to Superman and use his Freeze Breath on the fire (3) in the area near the chemicals. He can also use his Heat Vision to break shiny gold objects.

Also use Superman's X-Ray vision on the area above the pipes to turn the levers. Switch to Robin's Hazard suit and use the chemicals to fill the pipes. Green and Pink are up the stairs to the right. Once the pipes are full, use Superman's Freeze Breath to freeze the water. Switch to Batman, and change back in to his Electricity Suit. Now climb the ice platforms and move past the electricity. Pull the switch in the centre to clear the electricity. Use Superman to fly up to the higher platform and move right. Use Heat Vision to cut a shape in to the gold wall. This clears the way for Batman and Robin to grapple up. Just to the right is another fire (4) for Superman to put out.

To the right of this area, have Superman fly up and use Heat Vision on another gold wall to reveal water. Freeze the water to allow Batman and Robin to climb up. Before using the switch, put out the fire (5) to the right for Minikit #7. Now use Batman to pull the switch, and climb in the elevator.

On the roof, use Superman's Heat Vision to destroy the golden box (1) on the left of the area. There is also another golden box (2) at the back. Now fly upwards to find another golden box (3) to the left. Use Batman's Electricity Suit to climb across the bridge. Change back to Superman and destroy the two golden boxes (4, 5) on the right side of the roof for Minikit #10. Also use Superman to destroy the golden objects in front of where the switch is. Build a ladder so Batman can climb up and use the switch. As Batman, climb all the way back across to the left, and change in to the Power Suit. Move back over to the right and destroy the shiny silver objects to the right to finish level, unlocking you the "Chemical Crisis" achievement.
