MXGP3 – The Official Motocross Videogame Walkthrough

3. Story walkthrough

Once you load the game up for the first time, you'll be prompted to create a rider. After creating your rider you'll be brought to a screen where you can select a free motorbike from one of the seven manufacturers in the game. Your choice really doesn't matter, so choose whichever manufacturer you like the look of. You'll then be asked whether you'd like to look at the tutorial pages (there is no actual in-game tutorial). Do so if you want, but the game is incredibly simple to get a hang of. With all that over with, let's go into single player and start the career.

Career

After a brief cinematic you'll be introduced to your personal manager who will explain the sponsor system and the current situation, to receive an offer from an MX2 team you'll need to impress in the upcoming wildcard races. Continue on and you can select from one of three sponsors. They all have the same criteria and that is to finish in the top 15. After making your decision, select 'next race' and go into 'race options'. The options below should be the default but make sure to compare them to what the game is showing you. It'll make the game a lot easier.

  • Race Length: 3 Laps
  • Race Sessions: Two Races
  • AI Difficulty: Very Easy
  • Physics: Standard
  • Joint Brakes: On
  • Rider Weight: Semi-Automatic
  • Transmission: Semi-Automatic
  • Rewind: On

Credits are used to customise your rider and motorbike, alongside purchasing additional motorbikes. With these race options on you'll only receive a total bonus of 30% additional credits. However this really doesn't matter as there is very little need to spend them during the season beyond upgrading your bike (which requires a pitiful amount of credits to max out). There are loads of customisation options for your rider and motorbike but I'd urge you to save your credits unless I tell you to spend them at a certain point in the walkthrough.

You'll begin with a race at Kegums. This won't be a part of any series and will serve as a warm-up to allow you to get used to how the bikes handle and what to expect from the tracks. By skipping qualifying and only doing two races we'll save time, but this will come at the minor cost of your rider having to start on the outer edge of the starting line. It's unlikely that you'll win either race here as your bike and rider skills won't be at a good enough level yet. Don't fret though as this track will appear again during your MX2 and MXGP seasons. You only need to win one of the two races to unlock the relevant career mode achievement for the course, but obviously once the season begins we'll want to win both races in order to win the Grand Prix (to contribute to a later achievement) and gain as many points as possible for the Championship. During the course of these two races, you'll definitely unlock the following achievements for falling and using the rewind feature:

Get back up in MXGP3 – The Official Motocross Videogame
Fall for the first time
  • Unlocked by 10,749 tracked gamers (94% - TA Ratio = 1.03) 11,420

Déjà vu in MXGP3 – The Official Motocross Videogame
Déjà vu13 (10)
Use the Rewind for the first time in any Single Player game mode
  • Unlocked by 6,582 tracked gamers (58% - TA Ratio = 1.31) 11,420

Another wildcard race will follow at Matterley Basin before the MX2 season begins. After this you'll receive a message asking you whether to stay at your existing team, change sponsor or move to a new team. This message will reappear at certain points during the career. DO NOT move teams mid-season as there is simply no need. However I'd recommend to change sponsor when possible to slightly improve your credit reward for winning each race (the criteria only seems to ask for you to finish in a certain position).

After those two wilcard races, you should have some credits to spend. First, lets get a quick and easy achievement out of the way. In the menus select Customise > Rider > Rider Outfit, select whichever outfit from here and then scroll along to Goggles. Buy whichever for your rider from any manufacturer (they all cost 400 credits) to unlock an achievement:

Such finesse! in MXGP3 – The Official Motocross Videogame
Make your first purchase in the rider customization page
  • Unlocked by 3,769 tracked gamers (33% - TA Ratio = 1.73) 11,420

Now go back and select Customise > Bike > MX2 > 250cc 4-stroke and find your chosen manufacturer among the options. You'll be in the garage where you can pimp your ride. Scroll along until you get to the exhaust (the prior options are all cosmetic) and you'll see a variety of different options from several companies. The upgrading system in this game is rather straightforward. Generally just pick the most expensive option and this will upgrade your motorbike to the greatest extent. Eventually you'll want the 4,000 credit exhaust to improve your acceleration and speed, but you can settle for the 2,500 credit option for now and return when you have more credits. For tires, they are all pretty much the same so just buy one for 500 credits to improve your handling. For the rims, buy whichever you like that is 700 credits. Each suspension will likely be available for 2,500 credits. These don't need to be immediately purchased. Finally buy the 800 credit brake discs to improve your braking power. You won't be able to purchase all of these straight away, so focus on improving the exhaust first and foremost. Upgrading your bike is inexpensive and makes the career even more of a breeze.

The MX2 season will begin with a race in Losail. You should now have enough of an edge on the very easy AI to win both races here and along with it, the Grand Prix. Abuse rewind constantly during the first race in case you fall or go out of bounds and upon winning the race, you'll be awarded with three achievements:

Desert Marauder in MXGP3 – The Official Motocross Videogame
Win a race at Losail in Career mode
  • Unlocked by 1,534 tracked gamers (13% - TA Ratio = 2.72) 11,420

  • Unlocked by 2,435 tracked gamers (21% - TA Ratio = 2.16) 11,420

Perfect balance in MXGP3 – The Official Motocross Videogame
Win a race without taking a fall in any game mode
  • Unlocked by 2,507 tracked gamers (22% - TA Ratio = 2.13) 11,420

Now that you are familiar with the course at Losail, you'll be going for another achievement during the second race. This will require you to win without using the rewind. This ultimately shouldn't be too difficult as long as you exercise caution as some of the stretches are quite narrow. Restart the race if you fail or you could wait until later in the career for a track that you're more comfortable on. Upon winning the race without rewinding, you'll unlock:

No cheats! in MXGP3 – The Official Motocross Videogame
No cheats!67 (30)
Win a race without using the Rewind in any Single Player game mode
  • Unlocked by 2,266 tracked gamers (20% - TA Ratio = 2.24) 11,420

From here its very much routine for the rest of the season, keep on winning every race and you'll eventually win the MX2 Championship. Ensuring that you win at least one race on each of the remaining 17 tracks will unlock the following achievements:

During the MX2 season, you'll also be guaranteed to unlock two cumulative achievements for miles traveled:

Rookie rider in MXGP3 – The Official Motocross Videogame
Cover a total of 50 km (31 miles) with any bike
  • Unlocked by 2,150 tracked gamers (19% - TA Ratio = 2.30) 11,420

Cover a total of 150 km (93 miles) with any bike
  • Unlocked by 1,482 tracked gamers (13% - TA Ratio = 2.77) 11,420

With the MX2 season complete after the Grand Prix at Glen Helen, you'll be offered the chance to move to a new team. When doing so ensure that the team you select is in the MXGP and uses the same manufacturer that you used for the MX2 season. Upon joining an official team for the MXGP season you'll unlock:

A natural talent in MXGP3 – The Official Motocross Videogame
Sign a contract with an Official Team of the MXGP class in Career mode
  • Unlocked by 1,074 tracked gamers (9% - TA Ratio = 3.26) 11,420

At this point you should have roughly 60,000 credits (assuming that you followed my advice not to spend them on anything unnecessary). Now we can finally put those credits to good use for an achievement. From the career menu head into Customise > Bike > MX2 > 250 cc 4-stroke and buy a motorbike from each of the six manufacturers that you don't have one from yet. They will cost 9,000 credits for each bike which will amount to 54,000 credits in total spend. The bike you were gifted at the start of your career is considered as 'bought' for the purposes of the achievement. Once you have a bike in your garage from each manufacturer in the game, you'll unlock:

My treasures in MXGP3 – The Official Motocross Videogame
My treasures334 (100)
Purchase at least one custom bike from each manufacturer
  • Unlocked by 1,020 tracked gamers (9% - TA Ratio = 3.34) 11,420

Now it's simply a matter of running through the races again for the MXGP season. Ensure to upgrade your new motorbike before beginning the season using the credits left over. You should have enough to fully upgrade it. Pretty much everything is the same for the MXGP season, from the race calendar to the AI, so you know what to expect. Once you've built up an unassailable lead (likely after the 14th Grand Prix, assuming you've won every race), you can load up the remaining Grand Prix and quickly retire from them to speed up the process. Upon winning the MXGP Championship at the end of the season you'll unlock an achievement. Also during this season you'll have undoubtedly unlocked the last cumulative achievement for miles traveled.

With that we've done everything possible with this rather basic career mode.

Monster Energy FIM MXoN

From the single player menu select 'Monster Energy FIM MXoN'. This mode is basically a motocross tournament where different countries face off against one another. You'll have the choice to select a driver from any country that competes in either the MX2 or MXGP series. The tournament itself consists of only three races of three laps each, all on the same track that you can choose from the menu. There are two achievements tied to this mode, one for winning the tournament and the other for winning it with France. Let's knock both of them out with the same tournament. Select France and check the options to make sure it'll be a cakewalk (they should be set to the easiest by default). Upon winning the tournament with France you'll unlock:

Green fire in MXGP3 – The Official Motocross Videogame

Win a Monster Energy FIM MXoN with any of the available nations

  • Unlocked by 1,089 tracked gamers (10% - TA Ratio = 3.23) 11,420

Grand Prix

Now let's load up Grand Prix mode to finish off the remaining achievements. In the options ensure that Physics is set to 'Pro' this time and select Matterley Basin as the track. We'll be going for three achievements here, to win a race using Pro physics and get 10 holeshots. You will have noticed during the career that drivers will have been awarded a 'holeshot' at the beginning of the race. There's a small chance that you may have got a couple as well. A 'holeshot' is basically awarded to the driver who is quickest around the first corner in the race. The reason why this achievement has been left until now is because we've skipped qualifying throughout the career in order to save time. This has meant that we've started on the outer edge of the starting line, drastically reducing our chances of receiving a 'holeshot'.

The reason that we'll be racing on Matterley Basin is because the TA community has found a very useful glitch affecting this track. Basically you start the race and then immediately restart. Oddly as the race starts again the AI pathfinding will become messed up and they'll go the wrong way, effectively removing any competition. You'll encounter the AI again each time you drive past the starting line, but thankfully you can't collide into them.

Drive through the first stretch of the track until you receive a notification in the bottom left that you've received the holeshot, then rewind two seconds back and drive through it again to receive another notification. This will count as another holeshot for the purpose of the achievement, so repeat this eight more times to unlock both holeshot related achievements.

  • Unlocked by 1,011 tracked gamers (9% - TA Ratio = 3.35) 11,420

Go on to finish the race using Pro physics and you'll unlock yet another achievement.

You're too pro in MXGP3 – The Official Motocross Videogame
Win a race with Pro Physics in any game mode
  • Unlocked by 1,328 tracked gamers (12% - TA Ratio = 2.92) 11,420

At this point you should only have one achievement left, to win 50 Grand Prix. Thankfully your progress from the career counts toward this so you should have over 30 already won. Again it is recommended to race on Matterley Basin using the glitch mentioned above as it'll make things a breeze for you. Ensure in the race options that race sessions is set to one race, meaning that you'll only need to win a single race to win the Grand Prix, unlike in the career. Also revert the physics back to standard. After winning you'll get booted back to the main menu, but all of your options will be maintained so you can keep on loading up the track quickly. You can check your progress by going into Extras > Statistics via the main menu. Upon winning your 50th Grand Prix, you'll unlock the final achievement in the game:

I'm unstoppable! in MXGP3 – The Official Motocross Videogame
Win 50 Grand Prix in any game mode
  • Unlocked by 767 tracked gamers (7% - TA Ratio = 3.85) 11,420

Congratulations on your completion!
