Ah yes, I remember why I loved and hated this game for the Dreamcast. What's not to love about 56 Marvel and CAPCOM characters? For me, it is the 3 man tag format. I don't dislike it now as much as I did then, but still it turns into a hot mess on the screen more often than I would like. It looks like some kind of awkward superhero reunion when 4-6 characters are occupying that one tiny space.
With that one minor complaint out of the way, let's talk about the awesome. The new filters for smoothing the graphics look great. At times it is hard to believe that it didn't get the SSF2THDR redrawn treatment because it looks so smooth.
The cast is by far and large one of the best out there including some legendary fighters. Sure, this game is still wildly unbalanced (Cable and Blackheart to name a couple), but I'll be doggoned if there is a fighter as enjoyable as this that doesn't have the name CAPCOM attached to it.
The best addition is the 6 player private rooms. Why this wasn't in SF4 I'll never know, but it is great to be able to get a group together to talk junk while breaking out ridiculous combos that are only rivaled by Killer Instinct in terms of the number of hits. An achievement for a 200 hit combo? Count me in!
This is shorter than a typical review for me, but there isn't a lot else to say. To summarize:
Who should buy it? Anyone who loves fighting games, the legendary Marvel characters, or anything with any Street Fighter character ever.
Who should at least try the demo? Those who aren't sure about fighters. For all the nuances there are in the game, making a fist and mashing it against the controller is actually a decent tactic.
Who should avoid it? People who want to argue that MK vs. DC Universe is the best. Evar.
