Ah yes, I remember why I loved and hated this game for the Dreamcast. What's not to love about 56 Marvel and CAPCOM characters? For me, it is the 3 man tag format. I don't dislike it now as much as I did then, but still it turns into a hot mess on the screen more often than I would like. It looks like some kind of awkward superhero reunion when 4-6 characters are occupying that one tiny space.
With that one minor complaint out of the way, let's talk about the awesome. The new filters for smoothing the graphics look great. At times it is hard to believe that it didn't get the SSF2THDR redrawn treatment because it looks so smooth.
The cast is by far and large one of the best out there including some legendary fighters. Sure, this game is still wildly unbalanced (Cable and Blackheart to name a couple), but I'll be doggoned if there is a fighter as enjoyable as this that doesn't have the name CAPCOM attached to it.
The best addition is the 6 player private rooms. Why this wasn't in SF4 I'll never know, but it is great to be able to get a group together to talk junk while breaking out ridiculous combos that are only rivaled by Killer Instinct in terms of the number of hits. An achievement for a 200 hit combo? Count me in!
This is shorter than a typical review for me, but there isn't a lot else to say. To summarize:
Who should buy it? Anyone who loves fighting games, the legendary Marvel characters, or anything with any Street Fighter character ever.
Who should at least try the demo? Those who aren't sure about fighters. For all the nuances there are in the game, making a fist and mashing it against the controller is actually a decent tactic.
Who should avoid it? People who want to argue that MK vs. DC Universe is the best. Evar.

zodarzoneI didn't vote against, but totally disagree on the gameplay and controls. I played the crap out of the PS2 version and beat it numerous times with a variety of characters, but am finding this version impossible even on easy. Maybe it's the controller, I don't know, but I cannot get it to execute special moves on a consistent basis so I'm left flailing like a four year old and unable to get past round three.

Regarding graphics, the font for the text in the move list is so small it's a blurry mess on my TV. The only other thing that bad was the message text in Dead Rising.

My experience, I can't give it more than a single star. I want to, I loved it in the arcade and on the PS2, but this one has been a giant disappointment.

ADROCKgreybeardI've been playing with an arcade stick (which are becoming more and more affordable) so the controls have been solid. Perhaps that would help, and with the resurgence of fighters (not to mention how much fun classics like X-Men Arcade are with the stick) it might be a great investment for the future.
Thanks for not beating up my review too bad though! ;)

Marvel vs Capcom 2 waas released 10 years ago and quickly became one of the best fighting games ever to be released. With a huge and very popular cast (56 characters) and an original fighting engine (3 on 3) it was not hard for this game to rise through the ranks. Alot of its popularity comes from the combination of some of marvels greatest heroes and villians (wolverine, hulk, magneto, & dr.doom) and capcom's a-listers (ryu, mega man, jill valentine, & morrigan) to make one hell of clash. Aside from some gameplay issues this is a must play.

GRAPHICS (10/10) - The character models are very polished and the 3-D backgrounds are flawless. The characters are perfect renditions of their solo game (capcom) or comic book (marvel) counterparts.
SOUND (7/10) - All the character vocals and sound effects are great, but the stage music leaves little to be desired. No one wants to fight to elevator music plain and simple. Also the "take you for a ride" theme at the character selection screen is cheesy and does not set the tone for anything epic at all.
GAMEPLAY (9/10) - The game is very fun and easy to pick up allowing veterans and rookies alike to get in on the action instantly. And lets be honest, what fighting game fan doesn't wanna play a fighter with 56 selectable characters. On top of all that its 3 on 3 so the number of different teams you can put together is nuts. The one blemish is that the character balance is a nightmare sometimes with characters like cable and sentinel being so overpowered.
CONTROLS (10/10) - This being a capcom fighter, the motions for moves are very responsive and they even took it a step further by taking out all the double moves (for instance ryu's super fireball is no longer D,DF,F*2 + PP) that are usually included in their other fighters (street fighter) and making it just one motion. This keeps the gameplay fast paced.
REPLAY VALUE (10/10) - I repeat 56 characters, 3 on 3 teams, and an unlimited combo system. nuff said !!!
