3. Metro 2033 Cumulative Achievements
Through the game there are several cumulative achievements, mainly relating to weapon kills or mutant kills. These can be knocked out through your play-throughs or if you're missing one or two feel free to reload a chapter once you've completed the game to finish these.
Killing 100 Nosalis. You will easily get this without having to grind. Doing so will unlock:
Killing 200 Mutants. Same as above. Doing so will unlock:
Kill 200 Mutants.
Killing 100 enemies with a revolver, this can be achieved easily in the 2nd level exhibition whilst trying for the achievement to prevent the Nosalis breaking through the vents into the room or just generally as you play. You can also use the grinding method described below. Doing so will unlock:
Kill 100 enemies using revolvers.
Kill 30 human enemies with head shots. So depending on how accurate you are will define how long this takes, but just aim for the heads and eventually this will be done. Doing so will unlock:
Kill 30 human enemies with headshots.
Kill 20 Lurkers. These are the small dog like mutants that hide in holes and jump out at you, they first appear in the level Lost Tunnel, you can find them if you fork to the left instead of following Bourbon. I found that I got the 20 kills without grinding. Doing so will unlock:
Use 75 Medikits. This is easy and you will definitely get this without trying. Doing so will unlock:
Kill 50 Watchmen. This is easily obtained through the game so no need to grind this one. Doing so will unlock:
If you are struggling with any of the below achievements please view the excellent video that LifeExpectancy has kindly given me permission to use, shows a brilliant location to quickly grind these achievements. For those who don't like videos, the level to grind is Lost Tunnels. Follow Bourbon through the train wreck and he will say "shit, caravaners" and continue some long speech. Look to the front to see a dead body holding a safe key be sure to pick this up. Avoid hitting the cans on strings and in the next room pick up the throwing knife and ammo, make sure you jump the trip wire, you can cut this to work on the trap achievement. Now the next room has 7 or 8 humans use this area to grind various achievements. At the end of the room is a safe, unlock this and then reload the checkpoint. Repeat till you have the achievements unlocked.
Kill 15 human enemies with headshot from at least 30 meters. Can be tough if you are not very accurate. Use either a revolver or rifle at distance to work your way through this. I found the start of the level Frontline a good one to crack this achievement. Doing so will unlock:
Kill 15 human enemies with Headshots from at least 30 meters' distance.
Kill 100 enemies with shotguns. As soon as you get the shotgun, which is very early in the game use it till you unlock this. Doing so will unlock:
Kill 100 enemies with shotguns.
Killing 100 human enemies. This will possibly take a few chapter reloads to progress depending on your playing style but is very easy none the less. Doing so will unlock:
Kill 100 Human Enemies.
Kill 50 humans with Pneumatic weapons. These are the guns you need to pump and have 3 balls as the image for ammo, try and keep one of these weapons in your inventory for when you come up against humans. You will find the first available weapon in Lost Tunnels. Instead of following Bourbon branch to the left and you will find one on a dead body. Easily grindable after you complete the game. Doing so will unlock:
Kill 50 humans with pneumatic weapons.
Kill 100 enemies with assault rifles. You are handed an assault rifle at the beginning, there are a number of different types through the game. Just work through this as you play. Doing so I will unlock:
Knock out 30 human enemies. Sneak up to humans and press , time to complete this will depend on your play style. Doing so will unlock :
Knock 30 human enemies out in close combat.
Stealthily kill 15 enemies. Sneak up to humans and press , time to complete this will depend on your play style. Doing so will unlock:
Stealthily kill 15 Enemies.
Kill 30 human enemies in close combat. Either sneak up and press or just run up to human enemies and press , eventually you will unlock:
Open 15 lock boxes. Through the game there are a number of these scattered about. Some are easy to find the keys for, some aren't. They usually contain 'military' ammo and worth the effort to find. On your 15th lock box you will unlock:
Open 15 locked safe boxes.
Kill 30 enemies with throwing knives. Easiest to do against humans in stealth. Put the knife as your secondary weapon, aim and press . Once you kill them don't forget to pick up your knife. Doing so will unlock:
Kill 30 enemies with throwing knives.
Disarm 15 wire traps. Through the game you will find wire traps, simply crouch down and approach the corner of the wire until you are prompted to press . You will easily get this by your second play-through. Doing so will unlock:
The following are not unlocked until some way into the game:
Kill 2 Demons. Not available until at least the Dead City. Play through the game and when you find these shoot until you kill them, they take a lot of ammo to kill. There is a point in the game where you can use reload checkpoint to your advantage and I'll specifically make note of this during the walk-through. Killing 2 will unlock:
Kill a librarian. Not available until depository. These things look like gorilla's and are tough as hell. Use bombs to kill these. Killing one will unlock:
Kill 30 enemies with the Flamethrower. Not available until the level Dark Star. This is easily obtained, simply wait till you are prompted to pick up the Flamethrower, pump it to make pressure and wait for the Nosalis Hunters, When you see the anomaly appear simply reload the checkpoint and repeat till you get your 30, unlocking:
Kill 30 enemies with a flamethrower.
Kill 30 enemies with Flame Grenades. Best done on level Dark Star, wait till the Nosalis attack. Move to the back of the trailer and wait for the Nosalis to jump either to the right or left, as they are stood there throw the flame grenades at them. When you see the anomaly appear simply reload the checkpoint and repeat till you get your 30, unlocking:
Kill 30 enemies with flame grenades.
Explode 30 enemies. Best done on level Dark Star, wait till the Nosalis attack. Move to the front of the trailer and using either sticky grenades or standard grenades, throw them just before the Nosalis make there way along the tunnel blowing them up. When you see the anomaly appear simply reload the checkpoint and repeat till you get your 30, unlocking:
Kill 30 enemies with the Hellbreath. You can purchase this for free in the level Church. Make sure that this is not the centre gun of your three (replace either the left or right gun with the Hellbreath) otherwise when you start Dark Star the flamethrower will replace it. Once the fight starts on Dark Star swap the Flamethrower for the Hellbreath move to the back of the trailer and wait for the Nosalis to jump either to the right or left and kill them. When you see the anomaly appear simply reload the checkpoint and repeat till you get your 30, unlocking:
Get 30 kills with Hellbreath.
Killed 10 spiders. Not available until and only available in the level Caves. You will fight through the level until you get to a part where you are asked to crawl under a blast door resulting in it shutting behind you. You will see scorpion / spider looking Nosalis. Kill 5 or 6 then reload checkpoint easily getting you the 10 kills, unlocking:
Killed 5 amoebas. Not available until and only available in the level D6. You will work your way through the level until you are told to get the power on and the only way is down the lift. As you, Miller and another colleague make your way out you will be ambushed by two green orbs. These don't count however those are amoebas. As you head down the lift you will see these orange glowing pods and these are what release the amoebas. Make sure that when they are released you kill them before Miller. After the 5th kill you unlock:
Kill at least one enemy with each weapon in the game. This includes all secondary weapons. If you have unlocked all of the weapon achievements in the game you just need to ensure that you have used all of the different varieties of the shotguns and assault rifles. The icons for the guns are unique so it makes it easy to know which guns you have used already. The list of guns and secondary are as follows:
Revolver - First weapon you obtain in Exhibition
Bastard - rubbish assault rifle from the beginning
Duplet - double barrelled shotgun handed to you early in the game
Tihar - The basic pneumatic weapon found in Lost Tunnels
Shambler - pump action shotgun with shells stored on the side found on most human enemies
Kalash - Obtained from Bourbon, looks like an AK47
Kalash 2012 - Looks like a P90, can purchase it in Polis
Helsing - This is the gun that shoots metal bolts, can be purchased in the level Armory or alternatively found at the end of the Dead City, in a room guarded by Nazi's in Front Line, in Defense or in Black Station.
VSV - You are handed the gun by Ulman at the level Black Station.
Bigun - Purchased in the level Church.
Abzat - Purchased in the level Church
Hellbreath - Purchased in the level Church
Flamethrower - Found at the beginning of level Dark Star
It must be noted that you don't have to do this in one sitting and you can get it by loading specific chapters after the game has been completed. Killing one of each enemy with the above list will unlock:
Kill at least one enemy with each weapon available in the game
