Mr.Driller Online is what defines an arcade game. Mr. Driller puts the player in the role of a driller moving down through screens of blocks, having to keep his air supply from running out while avoiding being squashed by falling blocks. The game can get very hard on the later stages and too fast for newcomers to the game, that they'll put down the controller fast.

In Mr. Driller, after a character is selected and a country is selected, the player then drills a seemingly endless onslaught of colored blocks, ending with that country's given mileage (given in meters.) The blocks can merge with other similarly-colored blocks, therefore disappearing after 4 or more blocks merge. There are 4 main colors of blocks: red, blue, green, and yellow. There are also 3 special kinds of blocks: white blocks, which are pale blocks that don't merge with other similarly-colored ones; crystal blocks, blocks that last for around a few seconds before disappearing; and X-blocks, brown crate-like boxes that take 5 drill hits to disintegrate, and also take off 20% of the player's air supply. The player has an air supply that acts as his/her vitality gauge, and when it is under 30%, the player's complexion will turn blue and a bubble with an air capsule will appear over his/her head. To keep the air from running out, the player can collect air capsules that replenish the driller's health by 20%. A life is lost when the player's air runs out, or if he/she is squished by falling blocks.

Sound is the classic arcade sound from 1999, but the music is hard to tell because of the volume being to low.

Up to par with today's standard; very colorful with every 100m down the background screen changes as well as the block color.

You have 2 modes of online tag team and duel. I've never played online due to no one being on so I can't really say much about it. Added note the TA points for the online achievements are incredibly high! Boost with 3 other partners for some massive points!

This is game's difficulty is ridiculous. Unlike past Driller games, this one doesn't have a tutorial or in-game tips. Playing the first level is a breeze. The second may seem hard but not a problem. Third... impossible.

For 800 Microsoft points? If you're an an exceptional puzzle player than all means it would be right up your ally. However, if you purchase the Namco Museum Virtual Arcade, which includes a variety of games and as well as this one; that would almost be considers a steal!

This is a classic game but only true puzzle gamers and fans of the series should purchase it.

Boots OrionI agree with your analysis and the final grade of 3/5 (or 3 stars), but how you got to it makes no sense. Everything except sound is between 4 - 5, except online which you had never played and so you couldn't grade it. The difficulty is frustrating but it shouldn't mean that it isn't a good game when all else (that you wrote) suggests that it is a very good game.

That said, I don't think this game is very good and a 3 star review is more than fair. I have played online and while the modes are good, it is insanely laggy for whatever reason, even if you aren't that far apart geographically. Furthermore, I think 800 MS points price tag is ludicrous, but fortunately I got it in the Namco Virtual Arcade pack, which I paid about $7 total for.

Anyway, nice review, I just think that your conclusion is somewhat flawed.

ATurkishPenguinI should rate the game 4/5. Truly a very good game and I should also mention about price as well, as I totally agree with you in all. I must admit looking back at my first review (lol), it is flawed. I'll update it thanks Boots Orion!
