Hi and welcome to my review to N++!
Introduction:
Most of you probably know N from flash games or DS or even played the Xbox Version back in 2008 upon release.
As one my favourite secret games, this game is the successor and was released last year in 2017, which is almost 10 years since it's Xbox debut.
Up to today, there are only 2 games from N-series but maybe there will be more future releases.
So lets start with basic information about the game:
Just like its predecessor N (N for Ninja) is a side-scroller in 2D-graphics, where your aim is to get to a door switch in order to open the exit door and then leave the level without failure from lots of traps, enemies that are chasing you. That is the main goal in every level.
On your way you will encounter lots of obstacles, that can make your way difficult, so in some cases, planning will be your friend. Watch the level, watch the enemies, and try to obtain gold to increase your timer, as if this reaches zero, you will die again.
What is so special about this? Well, it is not a platformer, where you can just rush. Your Ninja does not carry any weapons or something and you only can dodge or avoid enemies. Every small failure will result in death making it so challenging.
Unlike it's predecessor this game comes with a soundtrack from various artists that you can turn off or listen to them. Mostly it is minimal electronic beats or EDM/EBM which fits perfectly to the game's atmosphere.
The game features ranking lists, coop mode up to 4 players (which is extremely fun!) a racing mode, where you have to beat the levels as fast as you can and some hardcore variants, where your skill really matters.
But not only skill, but in some cases your luck counts with you. As dying in this game will happen to you a lot, a misjump can just make you dissappointed enough to try again and do it better. That is why you won't stop playing this game, although you tried it a gazillion times.
Another good thing is, that N++ Ultimate Edition comes with over 1500 Levels to try out. And believe me this is HUGE. The Levels are organized in Episodes sorted from A-E and numbers.
There is an Intro section, where you learn the basics, the "normal" N++ levels, a hardcore section and another one. Every section has got 100 episodes containing 5 levels each.
Remember that you have to complete all 5 Levels to finish an episode. You cannot skip single levels or go back to the level, unless you start the level again. So if you're aiming to get all gold in a particular level and miss one and complete it afterwards, you have to start all over again.
In the options menu (by pressing LT) you can individualize your ninja by giving him a scarf. But changing the theme is more interesting, you can choose a variety of colour schemes if you unlocked them. This will affect the whole game, as some traps are more clearly visible if you have difficulties seeing them.
Despite this game is being renewed and makes lots of fun, unfortunately this game seems like it has lost it's popularity. I can definitely recommend this to you if you want to challenge yourself. This game is a secret casual game, which is one of my favourite.
Currently the price is 14,99€ and therefore is a bit expensive, but it is absolutely worth it if you played this before and missed the funny and weird deaths or the coop mode which will make you laugh out loud with friends.
So what else? Well this is the game actually, a 2D-platformer with a simple goal and obstacles but it's graphics, atmosphere and unnaturally challenging and somewhat impossible looking levels is what this game makes so special. You literally will dive in the game and will try to perfect the controls.
Oh and you have an editor, where you can create your own levels!
