Need for Speed: ProStreet

Need for Speed ProStreet is probably different to those who have followed the previous NFS games. Different, but still good. I would have to compare the physics of the game to more of a Gran Turismo handling style; you have to break hard for corners and try to avoid taking damage of any kind. It is more realistic driving than that of Underground or Most Wanted. This game stands out because of this, and also the extensive car list.

If you are a fan of racing games this one shouldn't disappoint you, if you have accepted the fact that it is a more "hands-on" racing game. You can't just NOS around corners with blatant disregard for your vehicle, you have to use caution taking sharp turns so you don't total your car. Don't worry though, if you DO end up wrecking your car you will have the option to repair it using cash or a repair marker (which you will get over the course of playing through the game normally). The game follows the career of a racer that you control as he climbs the ranks by competing in Race Days, and eventually challenging the Showdown King to become the best racer.

There are different type of races in each race day, and you can only use specific cars for specific events. The difference race variations are: Grip Class, Grip, Time Attack, Sector Shootout, Drift, 1/4 Mile Drag, 1/2 Mile Drag, Wheelie Competition, Top Speed Run and Speed Challenge. There is plenty of variation to keep the game interesting, and they get harder as the game goes.

The thing that I found interesting was the Blueprint system that they used in ProStreet. You start off with a base model of a car, which you can assign to one of the categories avaialable such as Drag, Drift, Speed, Race. From here you have a pretty decent customization process, which can take as much or as little input as you would like it to. For those who want to get right to racing, there is a quick upgrade option, from which you select 3 tiers of upgrades depending on how much you are willing to spend. Tier 3 will get you the best parts avaialble, and Tier 1 will be a step above your standard parts. If you are a "do-it-yourself" kind of gamer, then you have the option of individually selecting parts and upgrading as you go. There are also options to change your cars appearance, such as spoilers, window tints, rims, rim tints, etc. Once you have finished your customization you can save your Blueprint and start using it, as well as SHARE it with your friends! toast

THE BREAKDOWN

Playability: 9/10
I found this game to be enjoyable, and don't mind playing it even now. The different race variations keep it interesting. I found that I liked Grip, Drag and Drift races rather than Top Speed later in the game. (Probably because my Zonda is hard to control at 200 mph). I don't have many complaints other than totaling my car and the announcer making jokes about there only being 24 left in the World. facepalm

Graphics: 8/10
The graphics are pretty appealing, and the physics of the game seem to work well. The only complaint I might file here is when you wreck your car it doesn't quite smash it to bits like Burnout Paradise. As far as driving goes though, the graphics can hold their own against most other racing games.

Online Multiplayer: 0/10
I got this game late unfortunately so the servers were pretty bare. Thanks to the TA community I did manage to get all of the online achievements and 1000/1000 this game! Unfortunately if you haven't already gotten yours then they are no longer attainable. As of 4/15/2012, the servers have been discontinued by EA.

OVERALL: 6.3/10
This was a good game while the servers were up and still enjoyable if you're are not worried about completion percentage. However, now that they discontinued the online modes I have adjusted my review. You should definitely avoid this title if you track your percentage!

I think this is one of the best games in the series, especially when it was released. And it is a good break from the Need for Speed standard. I know there's no police to evade and for the most part it is off the streets, but the driving game play is better than ever before and actually takes some skill to play (In King Mode) and can take some good time to get used to. So don't take this game lightly it takes a good while to get used to the physics, but when you get your game on and upgrade your cars, man is it sweet!

Worst racing game I have yet to come across! Steer clear of this

The physics in the game is a joke to any game you can drive a vehicle in.
Sound effects are overdone.
Graphics is fine
And plenty of EA's licenses are in use. Many cars

I used to love their old arcade styled games like NFS Underground. But boy did they miss big time on trying to relive that succes..

Adds from Underground are drag, drift and highspeed.
Other than that it's replica, probably with same generation software in use.

Now this game has a bigger margen of bad reviews like it deserve

The fact that EA is server shutdown rider to just make more money out of people, forcing them to buy newer games says it all

Sum this game up in one word easy 'Boreing'

I will admit i love racing games and would rather play them over anything else. Loved Dirt, Dirt 2 and Forza 3. This however played the first race won stupidly ealily and was just bored. The only good thing was that i didnt get any achievment points for winning the first race. even when you continue to play its just minotomus i just for some reason could not get on with this game. my advice for anyone who is a fan of the need for speed franchise stay away you will be dissapointed, bring on hot pursuit to bring back my faith
