This game is pretty simple and straight forwards. All you'll really need to worry about is pressing the button for choices and selecting things. You will be utilizing the and sticks through the game as well. There isn't really much more to explain when it comes to the controls as this game is pretty straight forward on its controls.
You'll start the game off by looking at a photograph of yourself, your mother and grandmother. Flip it over and press to pack it into the box. At this point, you'll want to stay in the starting bedroom and go around collecting all of the items you need to pack into the box. You can actually leave the opening bedroom to the rest of the house and come back and still get this achievement, so if you accidentally leave the room, it is okay, just come back into the room.
The items required for the A Lot to Unpack achievement are as follows:
If you have collected all of the items, your screen will go black for a moment and the achievement should pop. Now you can explore the rest of the house if you wish, but your next achievement should be to dig around in the trash a little bit on the first floor. You'll want to head to the white bucket with a water bottle and a fast food cup inside of it in the living room. Choose to pick up the fast food cup and you'll get a short cutscene of your mom chastising you. At that point, you'll unlock your first secret achievement in the game: Just Checking It Out!
Next, we'll be going for the next secret achievement here in the first area of the game. Head over to the kitchen and walk to the fridge. Open the door of the fridge and try to leave the kitchen without closing it back. Your mother Opal will once again chastise you in a cutscene and then you will unlock the second secret achievement in the game: Born in a Barn!
Alright, we're done with secret and misc. achievements in the first area of the game, so we can go ahead and head into the attic now. You get there by finding the attic hook in the mother's room. It will be in the armoire/cabinet in the room. Head up into the attic and find the suitcase. To find it, find a box covered with a sheet. When prompted, remove the sheet off and a cutscene will play out. Open it up and go through the items which include snapshots, grandma's glasses, a postcard and a diary. None of the dialogue options make any difference for achievement purposes, so just select whatever responses you like. Once you interact with the diary and find the hidden key inside, you'll unlock the first story-based achievement which is unmissable and therefore end the first portion of the game at the house. This will unlock the achievement: Problem Attic!
Now we are out of the house and in our first car travel portion of the game. These serve as interludes between the few locations we will be going to throughout the rest of the short game. In our first car trip section here, we'll knock out two more secret achievements while we're here. The first is a funny one, as you'll annoy your mother Opal in the car by doing different things of your choice. You can either look in the back seat and zip and unzip your duffel bag over and over again until she chastises you for the achievement, OR you can poke the air freshener over and over until you get the cutscene that way. Really funny achievement, but either way you will unlock the achievement: Does This Bug You?
Next, while we are riding in the car, we'll want to get the next secret achievement. This one you'll want to interact with the car's radio and turn it on. You will want to change the radio station to 106.7 and you'll get a conversation between your character and your mother talking about the numbers. (Call of Duty: Black Ops, anyone?) This will unlock the achievement: The Signal!
At this rate, you'll just want to go through the dialogue with your mother, choosing whatever options you like as it does not affect achievements at all. Just pick what you want. At some point, the conversation will end, the first car ride will be over and we'll be arriving at our second major area in the game. It's at this point you'll unlock the story-based achievement: Are We There Yet?
The next area will be upon us which is the summer home part of the game. Eventually, you'll find out you need to go through the crawlspace at the back of the home to get in the back side of the house, since there is a blockade in the middle and you can't access certain parts of the house from the front. After you go crawling through the crawlspace and pop back into the house, you'll want to take out the next secret achievement while you are here.
Go into August's room and open the bottom drawer of her dresser and you'll find a bunch of goodies. One of them will be a treasure map. This will direct you outside of the home and send you next to the dog house. You'll get a prompt to dig up the treasure next to the dog house and after finding the item buried inside, you'll get a brief conversation with your mother Opal. During the dialogue, you'll want to choose the option to keep the treasure and you will unlock this final secret achievement for this area of the game. This will unlock the secret achievement: Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night(shade)!
Now that we have this last secret achievement of this area taken care of, let's go back into the house and head to the bathroom. Inside, you'll see a photograph of your mother Opal stuck to the bathroom mirror. Select it and you will unlock some dialogue between the two of you. Once the dialogue has finished, you'll unlock this next achievement for the game: Waiter Skater!
At this rate, all achievements are done other than wrapping up the story that you have here. So go ahead and inspect the bedroom that's locked and you'll be directed to head outside to the van and find a screwdriver in the glove box. Nothing else really matters in here unless you are interested in the story of the game. Grab the screwdriver and bring it back inside the house and go to Grandma's bedroom door that's blocked. Use the screwdriver on the door to open it and gain access to the room. You'll use the key you found in the diary back at the beginning house on her desk drawer to open it and find a few more documents inside. Pick up the small white piece of paper and you'll see an address on the back that leads to Canada. After some dialogue, you'll be prompted to head back out to the car where the adventure will take you and your mother to our next section of the game. By heading to the gate to leave, you'll unlock the next story-based achievement: Going Mobile!
Going MobileExplored the trailer home... I mean, mobile home.
At this time, you'll go directly to the short hotel section of the game where there's a lot of dialogue between you and your mother and just a few filler things to do around the hotel room. At some point, your mother will leave to go get you your burger, so it's at this time you'll want to text Francine when the option becomes available and put your phone back in your pocket. Now, explore the hotel room and head to your mother's luggage bag sitting near the bathroom door. Open it up and check out her pills, then text Francine one more time on your phone to unlock our next secret achievement of the game, and the only secret achievement for this portion of the game as well: Mother's Little Helper!
Once you've unlocked this achievement, put the pills away and just randomly mess with stuff around the room until your mother gets back with your burger. At some point the only option left will be to just do your homework until your mother comes back on the table, so go ahead and do that and the cutscene will start of her arriving with the food. Before doing your homework on the table that's next to your bag, you'll want to check out the plate of food which is your hamburger and fries. Interact with this food five (5) times until the burger is completely gone and you'll unlock the next achievement in the game: Clean Plate Club!
Once you've eaten all of the burger and received a phone call and have gone through the dialogue for the story, finish the rest of your homework. Then, you'll want to head to the hotel room door that leads outside and choose the option to find mom and go to bed. Doing this will end the short hotel section of the game and you'll be back out on the road again with your mother. This should also unlock the next story-based achievement: Room Service!
At this rate, we're heading to the last major location of the game which is the houseboat. Just go through the dialogue with your mother in the car, choices again don't really matter if you are just going for the gamerscore. Just get through the car ride dialogue and eventually, you will reach the last location in the game. By doing this, you will unlock the next story-based achievement which is: The Road Warrior!
Now that we have arrived at the final destination in the game, there's only two more achievements left at this point. You'll go through a bunch of exploration throughout the houseboat on the first and second floors, finding items like a plank, study key and mailbox key. The plank will be leaning on the dock and you use that to walk over to the houseboat. You'll want to head to the bar area inside the houseboat and find the study key lying there on the counter. Head to the study, using the key to unlock the door and then head to the desk and open the top drawer for the mailbox key. Head back outside the houseboat and unlock the mailbox using the newly acquired key and this will lead to a bunch of cutscenes and dialogue leading you to the end of the game. Once you've gone through all of the this, you'll reach the end of the houseboat section in the game, which will unlock the second to last achievement in the game, which is also a secret achievement: Pier Pressure!
After the houseboat section and the exploration, you'll be back in the car again one last time with your mother as the sun sets. This is the final part of the game. Just go through the dialogue, making choices as you wish while speaking to your mother. At the end of the dialogue, the car will drive into the distance, signalling the end of the game. This will unlock your final achievement in the game: The Road Less Traveled!
Congratulations on your 1000 gamerscore! This was my first ever attempt at an achievement guide, so I hope you enjoyed it! Thank you for reading and I hope you had a great experience!
