21. Conker's Bad Fur Day (2001)
Welcome to Conker's Bad Fur Day! Before we get started I'm going to mention that this game is full of adult content. Unlike very other game in this collection, it is probably best you try avoid playing this one in front of any kids! With that out of the way, lets get started! This game doesn't have Rare Replay cheats, however it does have in-game cheats that mean we can skip almost the entire game. Personally I think it is a game worth playing from start to finish, however here I will be abusing the cheat system to get this game done as efficiently as possible. After each segment, it is a good idea to check the achievement app to see if the progress for the achievement to finish the game has gone up.
Once you start the game you will get the following achievement;
After the start scenes, you will be in a pub. This is the main menu, head left or right over to the Options tab by the fireplace. Click to go into it, then go to Cheats. In this menu, enter the cheat WELDERSBENCH. This unlocks all chapters in the game. Doing so will also net you the following achievement;
Time to play the game! From here we're going to do the tutorial, then just skip to the moments where our achievement tracker jumps forward. Back out of the options menu, and head over to a game save slot. Pick whatever number takes your fancy, and lets head into it.
To start just sit back and watch the opening cut scene, it takes a little while. After it has finished, you'll be hungover on an island. You'll want to make your way around the fence to the other side to met Birdy, a drunk scarecrow. He will tell you about the context sensitive pads on the ground. Follow his instructions here until the gate opens (For some fun here you can keep using the pad you're on a couple more times). Head out the gate to the pad outside to get yourself a cure for the hangover. Now head through the water to the landing at the edge of the waterfall, where Conker will tell you how to both double and high jump. Make your way up the jumps, past a wooden door, until you come to a stone bridge (If you fall, just follow the water out a tunnel to end up back by Birdy). Don't cross the bridge, but instead high jump under the lever just here. This opens the wooden door we passed on the way up, where you now need to head back. Once you've entered the door here, you'll have to pick up the key to exit again. Chase the key around for a while, and eventually Conker will remember that he has a frying pan as a weapon. Knock out the key and pick it up by walking into it, then head back outside.
Head back up to the stone bridge to met a gargoyle who, unfortunately for us, just got comfortable here. Walk close to him, without walking in to him, to hit him with your frying pan. With him gone, head over the bridge and up the boulder that is now in our way. Stand as far to the right as you can, and high jump-hover your way over to a wooden platform to the right. Use the pad here to open the exit, head through it and we're now done with the tutorial!
Before we start chapter jumping, continue to watch the cut-scene here as we'll met Gregg first for an achievement. After the cut-scene you'll be introduced to the health system - anti-gravity chocolate. After picking up the first one, jump over the edge to loose it again. From down here, you will see a cobblestone path on the ground. Head left up it (Not the way we just came) until you come to stone walls that have barbed wire over the entrance. Walk into the barbed wire until you die, and are then introduced to Gregg, a quite humorous character.
Conker's Bad Fur Day: Meet Gregg.
Now to start skipping out parts of the game, exit out of your current game back to the pub. As told in the tutorial, you can skip any cut-scenes you don't want to watch from now on by pressing as chapter select assumes we've already seen them.
Go to Chapters, then move right until you get to Bats Tower. Select the very bottom one 'Bullfish's Revenge'. This is a relatively short easy run, and the cut-scene gives you the idea of what you're about to do. Once you're in control, jump in to the water and edge along the outside as you don't want to be attacked by the bullfish. As you leave the opening, the bullfish snaps free and will begin chasing you. It will always swim in a straight line towards you, so the idea here is to swim/jump over the catfish so that it gets them instead. When you get past the last catfish, a cut-scene will trigger. Jump on top of the bullfish and high jump up to the cash. That's this segment done!
We have to do two segments here, however they are right after each other, so we'll simply start from the earlier one. Go to Chapters again and select 'Frying Tonight'. As soon as you're in control, head forwards and around the pole in front of you to find a ladder you can use to climb up. Once up here find the pad and use it to pull out some throwing knives. There are three electrical cords you need to hit at their weak point here (Use to throw). Note the middle one of the three is a little lower than you are, so look down. There is no cursor in this game, so just adjust after every throw to get a feel for where you're aiming. You do have to hustle a little bit here though, as the water starts rising again quite soon. The next step is to quickly swim over the water to another ladder. At the top here you'll have to do the same thing again. After knocking all three down, the exit is directly opposite you up high. Once the water has raised high enough, swim over to it and enter. Jump on the tablet the creature here is holding and it will toss you up, pick up the cash here and head out the window to finish this segment.
You will now be at the start of this segment. This is another short area. All you have to do from here is climb the ladders all the way to the top, avoiding the wasps on the way. Once you're at the top, jump over the edge of the diving board and spam to activate a pad below you. Once you've hit the bottom, climb the ladder in here. At the top, carefully go right two segments to find a ladder on the outside of the bucket. Climb all the way down, and look left at a lower portion of the roof to see a stack of cash (We don't need this, just for sense of direction) jumping around. To your right, at the corner where the high and low parts of the buildings connect drop down onto a safe landing. Move forward from the ground level here to find some water, follow it left to the entrance that we saw open after slam dunking earlier. Pick up the cash in here and we're done!
The segment we'll do here is called 'The Bluff'. This will only take a minute, walk forward to the two kings guards standing here. Watch the cut-scene and we're done! The achievement tracker should now read 50% complete.
Here we will be doing 'Buga the Knut'. This is a boss fight, although it isn't too hard. Whenever Uga Buga jumps and causes shockwaves, jump over them to avoid being knocked off your dinosaur. When he does an attack where he raises both his hands up with his weapon, you want to press to attack him in the groin. Doing so will make his pants fall down, so run around and press when the lightbulb appears above your head. This will make your dinosaur bite a chunk out of his backside. Do this two more times to beat him and reveal his secret to the world. After that is done, look around for a slab of concrete now in the lava moat with a wooden platform above it. This leads us to the giant babe. After this cut-scene, head through the door right behind you. Follow the right platform around to another door, and out here is the cash. Pick that up and we're done!
Pick the segment 'Mr Barrel'. Walk to the right to see a barrel with eyes popping up out of it, walk into and then then jump on top of it. Roll out the door we started in front of just earlier to find ourselves outside. Roll forward, and you'll see a rather perilous looking path ahead of you. Once you get a little bit of momentum up, only worry about holding left and right to steer. Head through the exit at the end to find yourself in a graveyard. Continue onward until you come up to water, go into the water and roll up the waterfall to the exit here. Head through the exit, and pick up the cash right next to you. You should now read 75% on the achievement tracker, only two to go!
Load up 'Peace at Last'. This is just a couple of cut-scenes, watch them or skip them to your desire. Once you're in control again, we're done with this segment.
Onto the final boss, load 'The Vault'. Doing this will unlock the following achievement;
Conker's Bad Fur Day: Collect $2310 throughout the game.
The final boss here is a homage to Alien. What we have to do is knock out the alien, pick it up by its tail and throw it out the airlock three times. The alien has two attacks, a tail spin and a bite. Jump over the tail, and use to defend against the bite. If you manage to successfully block an attack, you will leave the alien momentarily stunned. Otherwise between attacks you can sometimes get a window big enough to get in there and punch it in the face. Use to punch it a few times, until you uppercut it. Quickly make your way around to its tail, where you should automatically pick it up. Using the left stick, spin around and around until the alien's claws a no longer dragging on the ground. When it will fly towards the airlock, press again to let go. Only two more times to go! Practice makes perfect here, so don't expect to come in and do this first try. On the third round, I found it impossible to land attacks for a good 30 seconds, so I would just stay alive a while before trying to get in there.
After the third time you've thrown it out, you're done! Sit back and enjoy the last cut-scene, as well as your achievement;
The multiplayer is nothing more than completing each game mode five times. You do not need a second controller, as you can do them all vs AI. From the main menu pub, head into Multi. I will work from left to right, starting with Beach.
Select Beach, then go to Set-up. Change the score to 1, and the enemy AI to Einstein. Select play, accept player 1, then make sure you're a refugee squirrel on the left. Skip the initial cut-scene with . You will spawn on either the left or right docks, as soon as you are in control run forward and head down the very middle of the map. The AI should take no time to kill you, ending the match. Select restart, and once you've done it a total of five times you'll unlock;
Paws For Fort
Conker's Bad Fur Day: Finish five games of Beach in multiplayer.
Next is Raptor. Same as before, set the winning score to 1 and the AI to Einstein. Make sure you're a caveman, start up the game. Standing still, it only takes about 30 seconds for the raptor to come and kill you, ending the match. Once you've done it five times you'll unlock;
Next is Heist. In set-up, set it so you have 1 life. Get into the game, and flick the right joystick down to drop a bomb. Go stand next to it, killing yourself and ending the game. Once you've done it five times you'll unlock;
Next up is Deathmatch. We will be doing the same thing we did for Heist, simply setting your lives to 1 then using the right stick to throw a grenade and kill yourself. Once you've done it five times you'll unlock;
Next up is War, using the same suicide method as above. Again, once you've done it five times you'll unlock;
Conker's Bad Fur Day: Finish five games of War in multiplayer.
Next up is Tank. In the set-up, set the lives to 1 and the enemy AI to Einstein. Once the game starts, head out and use the radar to find the AI. Go sit next to them until they shoot you to death, ending the match. Otherwise you can just leave the bunker you start in and wait a minute of the AI to return the explosive device. This will kill you as long as you're outside the bunker. Once you've done it five times you'll unlock;
Tanks a Lot
Conker's Bad Fur Day: Finish five games of Tank in multiplayer.
Last up is Race. Set your lives to 1, start up a race, then just go straight into a wall to kill yourself. Once you've done it five times you'll unlock;
Conker's Bad Fur Day: Finish five games of Race in multiplayer.
Congratulations, you've now finished Conker's Bad Fur Day!
