3. Rock Band Track Pack 2 Story walkthroughUpdate notes

Welcome to the Rock Band Track Pack 2 walkthrough! This is a pretty easy 250 G, provided you're adept at playing Rock Band games. First, let's start with Solo Tour.

Solo Tour

Before starting Solo Tour, you must decide what instrument and difficulty you want to play on. You can play on any difficulty, and on any instrument other than bass. Bass does not have its own Solo Tour. There are a few things to consider when making your decision.

While there is no requirement for difficulty, you must keep in mind that you have to be able to not only pass all 20 songs, but get 5 stars on them as well. There's an achievement for getting 5 stars on all songs in Solo Tour, but they have to be done in the same Solo Tour on the same instrument/difficulty combo. Therefore, when picking your instrument and difficulty, make sure you can 5 star everything. Most songs are easy for adept Rock Band players, but each instrument has a few difficult songs toward the end.

The toughest songs on guitar are “Afterlife” and “Snow ((Hey Oh))”. “Afterlife” has a particularly nasty solo that can destroy you on Expert easily. “Snow ((Hey Oh))” is hard throughout, as it's a lot of constant fast strumming that jumps around the fret board and has a slightly odd tempo.

Vocals are generally annoying, especially considering that this game uses the super tight Rock Band 1 engine. I can barely get the RB1 engine to work for me, personally. Unless you're a master at the engine, I wouldn't recommend attempting vocals on Expert, or even Hard.

Drums are no real problem for an Expert player, but “Rio” is likely to give some players problems. It's pretty much a constant, relatively fast disco beat throughout the whole song. “Indestructible” can be challenging too, as it relies heavily on the kick drum. “The Perfect Drug” is also a bit tough. You may also want to watch out for the drum solo in “Afterlife,” the cymbal roll in “Why Do You Love Me?” and the outro to “It Hurts” if you insist on playing Expert drums, but if you can do “Rio” and “Indestructible,” these shouldn't pose much of a threat.

Typically, unless you're one of the highest level Rock Band players, I'd recommend doing the Solo Tour on one difficulty lower than you normally do, just in case. It would be really annoying to get toward the bottom of the list and find that you can't pass/5 star a song and have to start over on a lower difficulty.

Another thing to keep in mind while selecting your instrument is efficiency. Seven achievements are unlocked by getting 5 stars on certain songs on one of two specific instruments. Guitar has 5, vocals has 4, and drums has only 2, making guitar the most efficient instrument to play Solo Tour on. I'll cover these achievements later in the Quickplay section, so scroll down there to see what songs have to be played on which instrument. Also, note that 3 of them can be done on bass, but since there is no bass tour, that becomes irrelevant until after you've done Solo Tour.

Once you've made your decision on instrument and difficulty, start your Solo Tour. What we're going to do is play through all 20 songs, getting 5 stars on each song. If you don't hit 5 stars on a song the first time, you can replay it as many times as you need. The only achievement tied to Solo Tour is for getting 5 stars on every song in one tour, so once you've done so on all 20 songs, the achievement will pop.

Now, let's move on to Quickplay to finish off.

Quickplay

If you got the achievement for 5-starring Solo Tour, you will undoubtedly have at least a few of these achievements. And if you played Solo Tour on Expert, you may have picked up the 100% achievement for the instrument you played on.

First of all, there are 7 achievements for getting 5 stars on any difficulty on certain songs with one of two instruments. These instrument choices differ from one achievement to another. Five can be done on guitar, 4 can be done on vocals, 2 can be done on drums and 3 can be done on bass. Therefore, if you did Solo Tour on drums, you'll have 2 of these already, if you did Solo Tour on guitar, you'll have 5, and if you did it on vocals, you'll have 4. Take a look at which songs need to be done on which instruments and decide which instrument/difficulty you want to do them on and boot them up in Quickplay. There's really not much to say about these, since you can do them on any difficulty and it all depends on your skill as to how long it will take. You may also consider combining them with the 100% achievements if you can.

Finally, we have the achievements for getting 100% on a song on each instrument on Expert. For bass, you have to do it with only upstrums. Also, you can overstrum/overhit as many times as you need, so long as you hit every note.

For guitar, “Girl U Want,” “Monkey Gone to Heaven,” and “El Scorcho” are probably your best bets.

On drums, “Monkey Gone to Heaven” is a pretty good candidate as well. “Simple Man” is also fairly simple, but it's rather long and has a roll toward the end that can be easily choked on. To make drums a bit simpler, hold onto all your Overdrive so that drum fills will cover up a lot of the song.

Bass is pretty simple in general, so most of the first tier is pretty easy. “Monkey Gone to Heaven” is once again a good choice.

The clear winner on vocals is, you guessed it, “Monkey Gone to Heaven.” The majority of the song is talkies, and the pitched sections are just the chorus. The chorus is the same tone all the way through, except on the last phrase where the pitch slowly rises. It may take a few tries to get it down, but it is far and away the easiest vocals song on the disc.

Congratulations! That's the end of Rock Band Track Pack 2! Now, go export these 20 songs to your hard drive for play in other Rock Band titles and recycle this disc, because you won't be needing it anymore.
