Note: If you decide to come back to casual matches to grind out tries/XP, be aware the game gets a little confused if you score more than 100 tries in a single match. At one point it even crashed my game!
Now we'll head back to the main menu and move to the top left option, 'casual match'. Here we'll try and knock out six (or more) achievements at once!
Select casual match, then move to the bottom left option, 'Auckland Nines Match'. Then choose either home or away. (Note: These achievements can be unlocked with a second controller also, but it should be easy enough without.)
For your league, choose 'National Rugby League' and for team choose either 'Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs' or 'Batley Bulldogs'. For the opposition, choose whichever team you like.
Underneath your player card, you will see 'challenges'. These can be things like 'win without making a substitution', 'win without performing an arm pin tackle' or 'gain X distance with grubber kicks'. The easiest one in my opinion is to win without making a substitution. If you don't feel confident you can achieve a challenge, quit back to the main menu and start again to refresh them.
To make this as efficient as possible, you're going to select 'match settings' and change to the following settings:
Half Length - 9 minutes
Weather - Random or your choice
Time of Day - Same weather
Injuries - None
Difficulty - Rookie
Extra Time - No extra time
Sin Bin/Sent Off - Disabled
Referee A - Doesn't matter
Referee B - Doesn't matter
Touch Judge A - Doesn't matter
Touch Judge B - Doesn't matter
Then start your match.
The first thing we're going to do is make sure we concede a penalty. There are many ways to do this, but the easiest way is to make sure the opposite team has the ball, then tackle with and keep holding until the referee blows his whistle. He will then award a penalty for held in tackle, unlocking:
On Your OwnGive away a penalty while playing for the Batley or Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.
After that, take possession of the ball and run it back to your own 40 metre line, we're going for a 40/20!
To perform a 40/20, you need to kick the ball into 'touch' (off the side of the field) by crossing the opponents 20M line, without it going over the try line. From behind your own 40 metre line , this can be a bit tricky to do.
To do this, stand about halfway between your 30M and 40M lines. Hold and tilt towards whichever side of the field you're standing on. Hopefully you'll get it first time, if not keep trying, the achievement pops when you perform a 40/20. This one is much easier with two controllers.
If/when you compete your 40/20, run the ball back up to your own try line, then run up the field, dodging any tackles/intercepts and score a try from 85+ metres. This unlocks:
Then play the match as normal, scoring as many points as possible, preferably with the same player. It should be laughably easy and over very quickly.
Once the match ends you will unlock the following:
CommanderWin a match using the Auckland Nines ruleset.
If you completed a challenge, you will also unlock:
Depending on how you played you will hopefully unlock;
Try HardScore 92 or more points in a single match.
Try HarderScore 9 or more tries in a match with a single player.
If not, don't worry as there will be plenty of opportunities to do these in career mode.
If this is your first match, after earning 1,000 XP you will also unlock:
DingReach user level 1.
Now we need to make one more match in casual mode. You can use the same teams as before (you can also use a second controller here too), except this time we're going to turn extra time on.
Play the match as normal, trying to keep the scores even this time. Eventually you will go into extra time, simply score here and win. You will unlock:
Now let's head back to the main menu and onto where the bulk of the achievements and grind take place, career mode.
