WARNING - Very long review, incorporates previous, different version. Please disregard Original Section if only interested in today, Section left in for comments / history purpose.
I don't do long reviews, so this is intentionally short. SvZ defense is a fantastically enjoyable tower defense game - Free to Play, so by nature achievements come slowly at first, and will come a lot faster for those willing to invest, but 95% are achievable within 5-10 hours of gameplay.
Without over-killing the issue, on release this game had significant freeze / resetting issues, that majorly hampered progress. Massive thanks to TerreDactyl
for assistance / resolution on pushing Glu to apparently resolve this, patch was applied on 24/04/13 and I've got 5 bug free hours so far (to contrast, I couldn't get 1/2 hr previously, or 30 seconds idle time). Please comment / PM me if there are still issues on this game, and I'll update here accordingly.
This is a regular leader-driven Tower Defense game; your samurai uses currency to buy allies to drive off zombies, coins / jewels upgrade your defences / resources, and jewels, for the most part, are the F2P "cost" element of the game. Without glitches, I loved this game, and am happily playing through on wife's profile currently - easy to pick up, has a fantastic element of one-more-levelitis (yes, that's a word
) and is a genuine blast, irregardless of F2P element, which I'm not a massive fan of.
Only current caveat / letdown is achievement 20 -
To simplify, the game takes 50 levels; standard difficulty rules apply, 1 = tutorial, 50 = final battle with multiple bosses.
Then, when complete, you can re-play each level 97 times, to level 98, to "upgrade" the level completely. The above achievement requires 50 * 98 levels to be completed, or 4900 levels. Rough TA estimates are at 300 hours played, so whilst kudos to the first who gets there, not even a good idea for a grind achievement, rather a money-making grab in my view. this is not a full review yet, I will write this when it is done. For the time being, this is a massive FYI / beware.
It's a freemium game, always good for something, right? Maybe even completable, with time and effort, right? I mean, what's the worst that could happen? Put simply, if I had realised this was made by Glu...
This game is great. Really, it is. The gameplay, the concept / level up, this is defense gaming (not using word tower, not my genre but doesn't feel quite right) at it's best. And, much as I positively despise freemium, I can even tolerate the forcing of jewels on you, as game is
doable without the things.
For me, however, this game crashes each 5-7 minutes on my PC (Amilo HP, 9 months old, very recent spec.). It crashes when an achievement unlocks. It crashes on progression of a level. It crashes when the sun rises in the western sky. And it doesn't crash the game... it crashes my whole computer. ALL. THE. TIME.
How long would a reasonable, non half-assed effort, at testing the gameplay bugs on this, take? I had hoped this was my PC issue, but exploration of TA / X360A indicates this is a widespread issue. Please note, do not expect a full 200 of this, or any reasonable concept on fun gameplay, until this is resolved. I will update this review if / when this occurs, still attempting to play on my / wife's profile.
As a last thought, those who've noted second paragraph may wonder on Glu's gaming previously? My highest rated solution (pathetic, I know :-),
, is the simplest reminder of why Glu cannot be trusted to design games. My submission to Glu's support site is detailed below, I will again update on response.
You may be aware the Windows 8 version of this game has significant issues currently, and crashes PC / tablet on regular occurrence, notably on pause, unlock of achievements, or progression of level. Please can you let me know if this is known issue / a patch is imminent for this?

Glu's helpful response, came through this afternoon (only 3 days smile);
Crashes are normally related to apps running in memory or not having the latest video drivers for your computer. Please ensure that your drivers are up to date.
We have alerted the team to your issues to investigate the issue.

Thank you for response. To confirm, as intimated in original note, I have no concerns regarding either memory or video drivers, and am comfortable this is not the issue.
I had a friend check the issue on my behalf, and he advised it may be prudent for your technical team the following;
"The game runs on ARM and Pc but the touch parameters didn't set what are ARM specific and which are not.
So if the game has to check hardware it may crash due to a runtime error in .net 4.5
The errors were also because i don't have the korean language pack installed.
There's also a major memory leak where it tries to load a file that doesn't exist on the main menu then that would be swell"

TL:DR - Glu Mobile either don't understand why their game doesn't work, or don't care. Not holding much hope for a fix, but I will update here if / when any news from dev.
Update 17/04/13 - response from Glu Mobile Customer Care.
I will pass this information along to the development team, they are currently working on addressing many of these issues.
