Hello and welcome to my walkthrough for Shred It! This is a very simple snow boarding game, there are no fancy tricks or button combos or anything like that to complicate the game so this should be a pretty simple 1000g which I'm sure won't take too long. Because of the randomness of the stages, the order you get your achievements may differ. If you follow my guide, they will be more or less the same and my walkthrough should help you focus on what you need efficiently and likely give you a head start for other collectables.
We will only be playing two of the three game modes to get all of the achievements. These are Endless Slope and Checkpoint Challenge. There is a Chill Session mode but there aren't any achievements associated with it, so we'll ignore it. Most of the achievements will be obtained in Endless Slope mode as there is only one achievement for getting to the end of Checkpoint Challenge which should be easy enough to get in one run.
There's not really much left to say about this game, so let's get to it.
There are 5 "stages" or areas in this game. They are randomly generated and the further you progress, the more obstacles they throw at you. You'll be up against tree stumps, logs, branches, and gaping holes. You'll even come across squirrels and bears that will attempt to knock you off your board. You move using , jump using , and slide/duck with . That's all there is for controlling.
Stages 1, 2 and 3 are very simple and shouldn't trouble you at all especially as you'll be making multiple runs and getting used to the obstacles as you go. In stage 4 there are platform jumping sections which can be tricky to begin with, but after a few runs you'll see a pattern in each section and should be able to get through them relatively easily. Stage 5 has long sections where you have to stick to the left or right hand side of the slope to stop yourself from falling down the canyon which loses you your heart piece.
If any areas are giving you some trouble though, I'd recommend unlocking Cosmo (the astronaut looking character) who has a double jump ability. He can be unlocked by collecting 2000 leaves, 10 unique stickers and finishing Checkpoint Challenge.
The only frustrating part about this game is the sticker collection. You get stickers on Endless Slope mode only. They are in the form of a wrapped present. There are certain things to remember about collecting the stickers:
- The sticker received will correspond to the stage you're on i.e. Stage one will give you a sticker for column one, Stage two = column two etc etc.
- You will only receive a sticker if your heart is full. So in order to get the stickers in row 5 you'll have to get to Stage 5 with your heart intact.
- You will receive duplicate stickers. They can be sold for paperclips (Column 1 = 10 Paperclips, column 2 = 20 paperclips, etc.)
Paperclips are the currency in this game. You will need to collect them for a couple of achievements but there are daily challenges and daily bonuses which award you paperclips too if you really need them. You will need 2600 paperclips in total to unlock a new board (100) and outfit (2500) and the rest you can do what you like with (revive or purchase other boards and outfits). Paperclips are earned by:
- Collecting leaves, every 10 leaves gives you a paperclip
- Jumping over an owl on a fallen log
- Jumping just before the red lines and performing a trick at the drop
- Jumping through the hoop at said drop
- Grabbing the acorn before the squirrel gets there
The last thing to remember is to collect the golden feathers. There are three per Stage and collecting all of these will give you a bonus as you transition to the next stage in the form of golden leaf piles. As leaves give you paperclips its worth aiming for the feathers unless you think you'll potentially crash (i.e. Being on Endless Slope stage four and hoping for a sticker to appear on stage 5).
When you start the game you'll only have Endless Slope and Chill Session available to you. Checkpoint Challenge is unlocked by collecting 50 leaves which you should get on your first attempt of Endless Slope. Depending on how quickly you learn how the game works you should unlock quite a few achievements on your first run of Endless. Just getting to each stage will unlock the relative achievements. Therefore, you don't have to get to the end of stage 5 to unlock the related achievement. It'll pop as you enter it.
While doing these runs, you'll notice a couple of red lines before a jump, most of them have hoops carried by birds that you can jump through if you want (doing this will give you an extra paperclip for your troubles). Always jump by pressing before you get to the red lines to do a trick as there are achievements for doing these. These are mentioned later in the walkthrough but you will likely have them earlier.
The first set of achievements you will unlock are for entering each of the stages/zones. These will unlock during your run.
NOTE: Most achievements that remain do not unlock until after completing the run. Therefore, you will need to keep track of how many tricks, feathers, nuts, etc. you collect during your run before failing.
As you go down the slopes, keep an eye out for the beam of light from the top of the screen. This tells you that there will be an acorn that you can collect. However you will have to beat a squirrel to that acorn. Go towards it and try and knock the acorn away before the squirrel reaches it. Generally, I noticed that the red squirrels were slower than the white squirrels but that wasn't always the case. If the squirrel reaches the acorn first either steer round it or jump over it otherwise he'll knock you off your board. If you reach the acorn first you'll be awarded this achievement:
To get the super nut grabber achievement you'll have to get five acorns in one run. To make this easier you can unlock Rufus (the dog character) by collecting 1000 leaves, reaching stage 3 and collecting two acorns in one run. This is relatively easy and you should have him unlocked fairly quickly. When using Rufus, on the approach to an acorn will flash up on the screen, press it and he'll bark and scare the squirrel off. This will make collecting the acorns a lot easier. Grab five acorns in one run now for this achievement:
While doing these runs, you will have probably noticed golden feathers in each stage. These have three achievements associated with them. There are three feathers in each stage and collecting all three will activate a bonus in between stages. In the first stage it's quite hard to miss them as they are normally in the path of the leaves you'll be collecting. I found it easier to focus on either feathers or acorns during a run instead of trying to get both at the same time as you could miss one or the other. You'll need to do quite a few runs anyway for paperclips so it doesn't matter if you do a few runs just focusing on feathers. You'll get to know where feathers tend to appear over time. For example, on the side of tree stumps, in the middle of a jump or even in your path. Therefore, try and collect every one you see in a run all the way through all the stages. Once you've got them all in one run from stage 1 to stage 5, you'll unlock:
If you do not get all 15 in Stages 1 through 5, you are able to continue collecting feathers in later stages to reach the Gold Feather achievement.
If you have followed the tip early of jumping at every red line, by now you should have these two achievements as well. These have to be done in one run even though the description makes it sound as though they are cumulative.
You should know the stages very well by now so take a break from Endless and go to the Checkpoint Challenge. In this mode you have to go through all of the stages and reach the end of stage 5 for the achievement. You'll have a timer counting down, the object of the challenge is to get to the end without the timer reaching zero. Every 10 leaves you collect you'll get extra time, this varies slightly depending on what stage you're on but is usually 3-6 seconds. You'll also get a large chunk of time added on when you complete a stage, usually around 25 seconds. You don't have hearts in this game mode (so you can hit obstacles), but obviously the more you crash the more time you will waste and the less likely you will be to reach the end.
Having said this, I completed this mode on my first attempt. It really is quite simple, just watch out for the obstacles and don't crash too much. If you are finding it difficult, try doing the run with Cosmo (please see explanation to unlock on the previous page). I usually crashed in stage 4 when you jump from platform to platform but with Cosmo and his double jump you can save yourself from silly mistakes. I can't remember how many times I crashed attempting this but it was probably around 5 or 6 and I still got to the end with over 5 seconds to spare. Once you reach the end you will unlock:
With all of the paperclips you have accumulated you may as well go to the store and buy an outfit for 2500 clips and the cheapest board I found was the plaster/band-aid one which costs only 100 clips. By purchasing an outfit and board, you now have two more achievements.
Back to Endless now to finish up with the stickers which you should have a nice little collection of already, you may even have completed a row and earned the Sticker Collector Achievement. A row is defined as having a sticker from each of the Stages/areas in of the same genre. For example, the top row of the board is a fruit. If you collect the fruit sticker from each stage, you will unlock the achievement.
If not, don't worry, you can apply the same method for the stickers now. As explained in the hints and tips, stickers are collected in Endless mode and are random. There is sort of a pattern in receiving them but it is not always the case. On one run you may get a sticker on stages 1, 3 and 5 and on the next run you'll get stickers in stages 2, 4 and 5 unless you hit restart and then it'll be the same pattern as the restarted run. So if you know you need a stage 3 sticker and you've just collected one on stage 2, you probably won't get one on stage 3. This is true 90% of the time, although they like to throw a bit of randomness in just to confuse you sometimes. The best way to collect all of the stickers is to always aim to get to stage 5 with a full heart. You will get a sticker if you have a full heart but if you have already lost that heart you will get a heart in place of a sticker. In the end, I only had a couple of stage 5 stickers to go. If you lose your heart in stages 1, 2 or 3 keep going because you'll more than likely get a heart in stage 4 and if you keep the heart, you'll get your stage 5 sticker. If you lose you heart in stage 4 you might as well restart because you'll just get a heart in stage 5 rather than a sticker.
I used Cosmo for this and even though I only had 2 stage 5 stickers to go it was frustrating at times either losing a heart at stage 4 over a silly mistake or getting a duplicate sticker in stage 5 (which happened quite a bit). Just keep making those perfect (or near-perfect) runs and eventually you will collect all of the stickers. There are only 20 in total so I guess it could be worse. This can end up taking an hour or more depending on what sticker you're given and your ability to get to stage 5 unscathed but keep going at it and soon enough you'll get the penultimate achievement:
The last one didn't pop for me straight away, I closed the game and reloaded it and it popped then. Going to the leaderboard can unlock the achievement too so if you're not getting this straight away you should try one of those things. This achievement should unlock after getting all of the other achievements. With this you'll get the last achievement and that's it, 1000g in 4-6 hours.
Thanks for reading.
Shred It! had a Title Update released at the beginning of December in 2016.
It added achievements to the Checkpoint Challenge mode, namely an achievement for completing the Checkpoint Challenge with each of the available boarders. It seems like it could be quite awkward, and can provide a some challenge if you had to play through the Checkpoint Challenge as it suggests.
However, they are actually far far easier than they are supposed to be. I'd suggest finishing the base game first, purely because you'll have likely unlocked all the characters by then already. Now, at the Main Menu, instead of choosing the Checkpoint Challenge, all you need to do is choose Chill Mode instead. Choose the character that you want to start with. and now play run through Chill Mode.
You don't have to collect the acorns or leaves, you can even fail and go into something if you want, it really doesn't matter,all you need to do is play through the five stages as normal and try to dodge some of the obstacles. The final stage is the second ice area with the moon in the sky at the back. When you make it to this stage, stop moving the controller, then after a minute or two of constant crashes, the run will come to an end on its own. A retry menu will pop up and the achievement for the character you chose will pop. Simply repeat this method for all of the characters and you will pop all the Checkpoint Challenge achievements in no time at all.
Note: You can't just idle the whole run, as the run will end on its own after too many crashes, and if you don't reach the final zone before this happens, then the achievement will not pop.
Play as Cosmo to unlock;
Play as Erik to unlock;
Play as Frappe to unlock;
Play as Jessie to unlock;
Play as Parker to unlock;
Play as Pengz to unlock;
Play as Rufus to unlock;
And finally, for completing the Checkpoint Challenge with each boarder, you'll pop;
And that's all you need to do!
Congratulations on your completion.
