4. SteamWorld Dig Story Walkthrough Part 2

4 Star Speedrun

I followed along (roughly) with this video during my four-star run, although I explored Old World a lot more than he did prior to getting the Mineral Detector, which made my run significantly slower. It's a great video to follow for these achievements. Ignore the story-related achievement locations if you did the first playthrough for Fully Loaded as suggested.

WARNING: This video does not obtain all 19 Secret Areas. You can return to nab the missing ones after completing the game, though, and I have included all 19 exactly where you should reach them in the text guide. Also, the depths for the caves are a rough estimate based on his run. Yours may be 10 or 20 metres higher or lower, maybe more. The key is to look for the next cave in this guide as you dig down.

Old World

Drill down, grabbing mineral deposits along the way. You should be getting Galena, Chocolotite, and Dolomite in this area. You’ll see a non-numbered cave (aka loot cave in my descriptions) at around the 195-metre mark, but ignore it and continue downward. If you come across an Amethyst and don’t have room, toss your cheapest item (most likely a stack of just one or two Chocolotite) to make room for it, as Amethyst is worth $75 by itself. Alternatively, just use your teleporter close to the Amethyst, unload quickly in town, warp back and grab it, and unload it as well. That way your inventory is freshly empty and your cash is higher.

Make sure to nab another teleporter when you’re in town after using it, as well as the Dual Tank upgrade (you should just have enough orbs to get both). Return to the cave via the teleporter and continue digging down. You should be obtaining the more valuable items like Amethyst, Gold, Galena, etc now. Not far below where you filled your inventory and used your teleporter, around the 240-245 metre depth mark, you should reach Old World Cave I, the first numbered cave of this area.

Old World Cave I

At the start, you should see a stack of TNT barrels to the right. Hit them with the drill or pickaxe, then quickly drop through the floor below they explode. Jump to the left across the TNT barrels/spike pits to reach a lever and activate it, opening a barrier to the right. Head right through the open barrier and drop down. A short distance ahead you’ll see a cave dweller tossing bottles at you. Take the ladder to the upper-left from here, and drill a single block from under the large rock on the right. It should drop down and crush the dweller below. Climb up the shaft the rock left behind to reach an Orb deposit.

Drop down to the right to get the Dynamite ability from the platform. Dig down through the soft dirt to the left (near where the large rock fell) to find another orb deposit. Climb up the ladder to the left and set off the TNT barrels, retreating to a safe distance. Beneath where they were, drill the mineral deposit for an Amethyst. Exit back out to the main cave area.

Old World – Main Cave & Loot Cave

Continue drilling downward, paying close attention for mineral and orb deposits, especially the latter. Because of the RNG of the main cave’s creation, you can easily miss the 150-orb star at the end of the game if you don’t keep an eye out for them. Just remember that you can take multiple passes at each downward dig in the main cave, dashboarding out of the game to pick up from your last save in town if you take a poor path, so that you know the lay of the land.

At around the 255-260 metre depth mark, you should find a pre-placed teleporter. It may be further left or right from where you’re digging, once again why sometimes taking multiple passes at each dig phase, via dashboarding, can help. Just remember to re-do any caves that you did since the last time you saved the game by visiting Tumbleton. Use the pre-placed teleporter to return to town. Unload your loot and purchase the Sturdy Armor from Cranky, as well as the Gigantic Pouch from Biff. You should now have the Drill-o-tron, four health bars, four water bars, and seven loot slots. Since you used a pre-placed teleporter, you should also still have yours that you purchased earlier.

At this point, if you didn’t do the Archaea Cave I – Sequence Breaker Visit step above, return there now (via the ladder) and use the dynamite-jump method to do it, assuming you can’t do the “trick jump”. Once that’s out of the way, return to town and use the teleporter to return to Old World. Continue digging downward. You should be getting medium-to-high value items like Gold, Biotite, Amethyst, Obsidian, etc from mineral deposits now. Just a few metres below the pre-set teleporter, around the 260-265 metre depth mark, you should find another non-numbered cave (loot cave). We skipped the first one in Old World, but we’ll loot this one.

Dig straight across to the left. Wait for the acid dripping above on the far left side to open the way upward, and wall jump up to the ledge above. Go across to the right side, and again jump up to a ledge above, this one to the right. You should see a health pickup, so jump up the wall there, grabbing it on the way. At the top, make your way across to the left again, then up once more. Cross to the right one last time, then up to reach a ledge with a mineral deposit. Mine the Zoisite from it and cross to the left to mine an Orb deposit as well. Return to the bottom of the room and exit back to the main cave.

Continue digging downward, grabbing as many mineral deposits on your way as you can. You can widen your search path a bit at this point, considering that the mineral deposits are yielding much more valuable loot at this point than the ones earlier-on were. I would suggest starting by mining generally downward toward the left, until you reach around 340 metres of depth, then climb back up to around 310-315 metres and mine down to the right. The next cave is down to the right. Once you reach Old World Cave II, approximately 340-345 metres in depth, find a safe spot to place your teleporter and use it to return to town.

Unload all your loot, and purchase another teleporter from Cranky as well as the Humongous Pouch upgrade from Biff, bringing you to eight inventory slots. Take the teleporter back to Old World and enter Cave II.

Old World – Cave II

Go left and down the ladder, then right across the acid pools. Climb up the 1st ladder and place a dynamite beside the wall to the right of the 2nd ladder, retreating to a safe distance. This will open the way to a room with TNT barrels. Hit them with the axe or drill to light the fuse and retreat. Once they blow, go into the room and mine the Orb deposit. Once that’s done, go up that 2nd ladder and climb up the 1st shaft above you as you go left. Go right at the top of the shaft, past a zombie. Drop down between the boxes below and mine the Zoisite from the wall to the right.

Mine the Orb deposit next to the zombie above, which is also Secret Area "4, then head left. You should reach a cave dweller guy tossing glass bottles. Deal with him, and climb up the wall just above and to the right of him. Go right at the top and dig out some dirt beneath a ladder to drop it. Head to the far right and break ONE box at the bottom. Leave the other, and jump onto it.

Aim up and break the two boxes above you, then wall-jump up to reach the ledge on the upper-left. Drop down through the floor to get to the platform, granting you the Steam Punch tech. Use it on the wall to the left, and make a long jump to the left from here to land on a far ledge with two TNT barrels and a single enemy. Detonate the barrels and get the Zoisite and Lazurite deposits beneath them before dropping down to the right and exiting back out to the main cave. Use the nearby teleporter you placed earlier before entering Cave II to return to town and unload.

You’ll only have enough cash for EITHER the Hard Armor or the Huge Tank upgrade. I would suggest the Hard Armor, as there will be quite a few places shortly where you may take damage, and not as much need for extra drill time (yet). Take the teleporter back to the cave.

Old World until Cave III

Loot is starting to get pretty valuable now. You’ll be seeing things like Lazurite and Uranium frequently, as well as gems, so loosen your left-to-right distance up even a little more to make room for finding more deposits. Like I said before, always try to look a few squares down from where you are, so you can plan your route, and perhaps do a few experimental digs downward before dashboarding out of the game to get a lay of the land and plan the best loot route to dig without clocking time against the speedrun.

Once again, pay special attention for Orb deposits. I finished the game with 180 orbs, but I was pretty thorough, and clocked 2hrs 20minutes on my 4-star run. If you’re going faster, you may skip too many of them. You should reach Cave III at around the 400-metre mark, give or take. Don’t bother teleporting to town unless you’re super full on loot. If you do, make sure to buy another teleporter while you’re there.

Old World - Cave III

Immediately drill the wall to the left when you enter for Secret Area #5, containing a lever. Activate it to open the barrier by the armadillos below. Assuming you’re full on health, just drop down and let the first hit you, then rush past them all while you’re momentarily invincible. Drill the wall to the left of the armadillos for a Topaz. Go right, and drill under the cave dweller, heading right until you see the TNT barrels. Get the mineral depost beneath them (slightly left) for a Purpletite. Climb out and bounce off the purple shroom to reach the small blocks above. Be quick crossing them, so you don’t set off the TNT. Jump to the right, and you’ll be passing through an area of mushroom-lined walls.

Use the mushrooms to bounce up to the left to some higher ones, then up to the right to a lone mushroom on a single block. Bounce off of it up to the right, aiming for a square of soft dirt on the wall. You should be able to destroy it (or perhaps it collapses?) even while wall-jumping, revealing Secret Area #6 above. Drill out the Orb deposit in the soft dirt up here, trying to make sure that you don’t fall down below when you drill it. Just do a quick wall-jump and you should be fine. Once you’ve gotten all the orbs, bounce up to the left off the single mushroom below to reach a platform with a single TNT on it.

Drop off the left end, and bounce off the shrooms below to reach the wall to the left. Wall-climb your way up this shaft to the area above, up and over the zombie to reach the platform, where you’ll receive the Fall Dampeners tech. Stand on the left end of the platform and use your Steam Punch to blast open a square on the left wall, revealing Secret Area #7 (that’s three in this cave, if you’re counting). Mine the Topaz out of the roof in there, then drill down below the platform. Drop down to the area below.

Go left, and just past the TNT barrels, climb up the ladder. From here, jump up to the three-square-wide platform on the right. Above you is a shaft that you can climb. You can either steam-jump up to the lower portion of its wall and trick-jump around the overhang midway up, or you can drop a dynamite and do a dynamite-jump to rocket yourself all the way up to the upper portion of the shaft. Either way, go to the upper-right side of the shaft to find a large patch of soft dirt with tons of mineral deposits, aka loot city, inside. If you’re inventory is getting full (hopefully not) and there are several Uranium deposits around you, discard whichever one of your inventory items is a multiple-stack item (the ones that fit four deposits in one loot slot) that you only have one of, such as the Purpletite.

Once you’ve collected all that, jump as far to the left off this ledge as you can to reach a horizontal area lined with more mushrooms as well as acid drips. Mine the orb deposit to the left (suspended as a single square in the air), and detonate the TNT, retreating to a safe distance. Enter the door and go left until you reach an acid pool with a few boxes. Jump onto the lower box, so that you’re standing on it with two boxes above you. Destroy the box beneath you. You’ll drop into the acid, so jump back out to the right quickly. Jump back onto the two remaining boxes and use your Steam Punch on the wall to the left to reveal Secret Area #8 (that’s four in this cave).

Return to the right, but drop down to the lower area with more acid pools and a cave dweller. Use Steam Punch to deal with him, and head right. You’ll probably just have to take some damage from the 2nd one, since your Steam Punch isn’t upgraded enough to reach him distance-wise. Just rush past him when you get hit, so that you’re invincible when you reach the zombies above. Dodge or kill them, and Steam Jump to the wall up and to your left. From here, you’ll have to do a “trick jump” to get around the overhang above you, then jump over to the right and cross the acid pit by jumping on the TNT barrels before the acid drips detonate them.

You COULD use a dynamite-jump from the ledge where the zombies were to rocket all the way up to the acid pool ledge, skipping the trick jump, but it isn’t recommended. If you’re not quick enough, you’ll have to jump into the acid pit to cross it, and by this point the cave dweller and dynamite would have damaged you so much that such a jump into the acid would almost certainly mean death. Drop off the ledge to the right and drill down through the soft dirt, around the right side of the purple laser. Once you reach the bottom and are on solid ground, drill and speed-run/sprint straight left, before the ground collapses beneath you.

From there, just keep holding left as the ground collapses, and you’ll make your way down through it to a long path below with a couple roaming robot enemies. Cross the path, avoiding the bots, and destroy the Generator on the far left. This is the 2nd one you should have destroyed if following this guide (or the video), meaning you should unlock the Sequence Breaker achievement at this point.

Sequence Breaker

Destroy two generators before entering Vectron.

Sequence Breaker
1 guideOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerMissable

Climb the ladder above, drill through the ceiling, and exit this area back out into Cave III. Make your way back through the mushroom-lined area, back to the first portion with the armadillos and cave dwellers. Exit back out into the main cave.

Old World until Vectron

At this point you will most certainly be full or nearly full on loot, so use a teleporter to return to town (or just use the one you placed before entering Cave III, if you did that). If you have room for one or two Uranium and/or Red Golds in your stacks, you can go ahead and drill down to reach the Vector area before using your teleporter to town, as it’s not far below you, and you should only pass through two or three ore deposits en route. At about the 430 metre depth or so, you should break through the last of the dirt here and fall down into the metallic-looking Vectron area, which will also plummet you down to around 470 metres’ depth or more, depending on whether you land on one of the taller portions or not.

Head to the far left of the vertical pillar-like structures, and look for a dirt square on the left side that you can break through to get inside it. Drop down to the bottom and cross to the far right to reach a door that takes you to Vectron proper, unlocking It Goes Deeper.

It Goes Deeper!?

You found Vectron!

1 guideOffline Game ModeSingle PlayerMain Storyline

Drop off to the right and drill through the wall to reach another shortcut pipe that takes you back to town. Whether you unloaded after Cave III in Old World or not, go ahead and unload again if you have any loot. If you’re on pace with the speedrun video, you probably have amassed only about $3700 to $4000 by now. Don’t stress about the gold star for $20,000 though, as there will be ample opportunity to earn loads of cash in Vectron. Grab another teleporter from Cranky’s if you don’t have one, as well as the Thick Armor, Huge Tank, and Water Seal upgrades at Biff’s. You should have eight loot slots, six health bars, and five water bars at this point. If you can afford it, grab the next water upgrade from Biff too, bringing you to six water bars. Take the pipe on the far left back to Vectron.

Vectron until Cave I

Vectron poses some interesting new challenges. The spike magnets aren’t new, per se, but up until now they haven’t been a hazard in the outer cave areas. Also, there are patches of dirt that constantly replenish themselves, meaning they can block your route back upward, if you’re not careful. A short section is easy enough to remove with an upward Steam Punch, but taller sections can be problematic (although still passable). To climb back up a longer vertical shaft of regenerating dirt, just continually wall-jump until the patch below you reappears, then stand on it to aim another Steam Punch up, and repeat the process via wall-jumping higher.

The spike magnets can be aimed in any direction (up/down/left/right), so pay careful attention to which direction they’re facing. If there is only one square of the softer dirt (the replenishing kind) between you and a spike magnet, it will launch through said square and squish you. They will also destroy mineral deposits, which if done too much can actually prevent you from reaching $20,000 earned (although this is unlikely).

The loot here is of high quality, so you want to get as much of it as you possibly can while working your way down, without going excessively out of your way or wasting tons of time climbing back up just for a single deposit, of course. Drill your way down, collecting as much as you can, until you reach around 555-560 metres. You should see a non-numbered cave, aka a loot cave, at around this depth, so head inside. Remember the strategy for climbing up vertical shafts of reappearing dirt mentioned above? You’ll have to use that here, so steam punch and wall-jump your way up through this vertical room to reach a small room at the top with four mineral deposits as well as an Orb deposit, then exit back to the main cave.

Continue drilling downward, getting as much loot as you can, until you run out of room. If you’re efficient in your movements, you should start to reach loot capacity at around 580 metres. Use your teleporter to return to town and unload. With the value of the minerals in this area, a full bag should easily net you around $900 each trip. Buy another teleporter while you’re here, and buy the Super Tank upgrade from Biff to get you to six water bars if you haven’t already, as well as the Improved Hydraulics upgrade so that your drill uses less water. Take the teleporter back to Vectron. Continue drilling down and looting until you reach around the 600-605 metre mark.

At this point, you should see a cave with a blue-glowing sign sort of resembling a capital ‘i’ beside it, and three green lights above it. Although these Vectron caves’ signs are a bit different, I will still refer to them as Cave I/II/III as there are still only three numbered caves in this area, even though Cave II & III’s signs look more like cryptic brail than roman numerals.

Vectron – Cave I

Head to the far left when you enter, and up the multi-tiered area past several enemies. On the very first tier above the ground level where you entered, drill through the wall on the far right side to reveal Secret Area #9 leading to an Orb deposit. Make sure you grab that to save from having to backtrack for it later.

Once you reach the upper-left corner, you’ll need to pass through some of the regenerating dirt beneath a couple of turrets. Take note of the hears in the alcoves above if you need them, but continue right to reach the platform with the Mineral Detector. If you haven’t already, go into the game’s settings and increase the mini-map size to its maximum. It is IMPERATIVE from this point forward that you make full use of the mini-map, as the Mineral Detector tech will place purple squares on all mineral deposits on the map. This allows you to plan your route to maximize loot, and clear the areas in the main cave much faster than trial-and-error/dashboarding the game.

Drill the dirt beneath the tech platform to collect the five mineral deposits there, then jump up to the single-square grey blocks above the platform. Stand on the top-right one and use your Steam Punch to blast the wall directly to the right, revealing Secret Area #10 containing a mineral deposit (Emerald). Go right and up, and drill down through the dirt to fall between two purple lasers. In the room below, go up and over the middle to the left-hand side. Standing on that platform, you should have two purple lasers below you, one horizontal and the other vertical directly beneath the square you’re on.

Steam Punch directly upward into the ceiling above the vertical laser to reveal Secret Area #11 (the 3rd one in this cave) with a mineral deposit (Emerald). Drop down to the bottom of the room and destroy the Generator to the right. Don’t forget to grab the mineral deposit to the right of that, a Purpletite. Go to the far left and drop down to the entrance of the room and exit it back to the main caves of Vectron.

Vectron Main Cave

For the remainder of the game, I’m not going to give you specific instructions in the main caves of Vectron. You should know enough by now to make your way downward, utilizing teleporters to return to town and unload your loot anytime your bags get full. Always remember to bring a teleporter with you from town.

As you dig your way down through Vectron, make every effort to hit all the loot spots going down. Don’t waste an inordinate amount of time doing so, but the loot here is very profitable, and you’ll need it to reach the $20,000 mark before finishing the game in under 2h30min. This should not pose much of a problem given your Mineral Detector tech now, as well as the larger mini-map if you followed my instructions. Just plan your path down so that you pass through as many, if not all, of the purple squares on the mini-map as you can.

Also make sure to visit Dandy and buy the Drill Star and Hyper Drill upgrades ASAP as soon as he/they become unlocked. This will greatly speed up your drilling operations in Vectron. Purchase the Gargantuan pouch after you’ve obtained the drill upgrades above, to assist with fewer trips to town due to the expanded inventory, and keep upgrading your water/armor/etc as finances permit. I will still provide more detailed instructions for each of the individual caves.

Between Cave II and Cave III, make extra effort to clear all mineral deposits to the left and right as you go down. The Unobtainium and other minerals, including Diamonds, in this area are crucial to hit $20,000. You should also be unlocking more armor and water tank upgrades round that time, which are very helpful in the end-game. The approximate depths and instructions for each are as follows:

Vectron – Loot Cave

This one is at approximately 660-665 metres - It has three green lights above the door but does not have the blue glowing letter sign beside the door like Cave I did. This is very simple loot cave with some laser turrets around you at the entrance, and a large area of regenerating dirt at the bottom that leads down to a mineral deposit (Ruby) and Orb deposit at the very bottom. You mainly come here for the Orb deposit, but get both.

Vectron – Cave II

This one is at approximately 685-690 metres – It has three green lights above the door, and a blue glowing “II” sign beside it. When you enter, go left to trigger the two large spike magnets before retreating to the right. The upper spike magnet will release a bunch of the smaller ones above, which will drop down and get rid of the enemy for you. Once all the magnets have moved, look for a mineral deposit on the ceiling midway across containing a Ruby. Use your Steam Punch to release it. Continue to the far left and down to reach a tech platform with the Static Dash ability, which is a double-jump for all intents and purposes. This makes dealing with the vertical movement immensely easier.

Return to the starting area of this cave and continue to the right, using your new Static Jump ability to double-jump over the horizontal laser and continue upward. When you reach the first four-way intersection a couple of levels up, go to the far right and drop down into a small alcove at the end with one of the exploding robots and an orange sprocket-looking item above you. Steam Punch the ceiling above you, against the right wall, to reveal Secret Area #12 containing said sprocket. Climb directly upward from here, past the pathway to the left you came from.

On the next ledge above, drill into the wall on the left to reveal Secret Area #13 with a single-square puddle of water and a mineral deposit (Ruby). Continue up and to the left, and in the upper-left corner of the area, charge a Steam Jump and jump up, followed by a Static Jump, to reach a wall high above. Jump onto the single grey block beneath the nearby Generator and destroy it. Drop straight down from the generator to the three-square-wide ledge below where you came from, and use your Steam Punch on the wall directly to your left to reveal Secret Area #14. Enter it and follow it to the end to find an Orb deposit before dropping back down to the main path.

Return to the entrance of this cave. The pit to the right of the entrance, that used to have the long horizontal purple laser, now has no such laser thanks to destroying the generator. Drop off the ledge immediately right of the entrance and drill the wall to the left to reveal Secret Area #15 leading to the left beneath the entrance, to a mineral deposit (Ruby). Exit back to the main cave and continue down through Vectron, using your minimap to hit as many (preferably all) of the purple dots (mineral/orb deposits) as you can on the way down.

Vectron – Loot Cave (3 Lights + 7 Lights)

At approximately 785-790 metres you should find a loot cave. It has the three green lights over the door like Vectron Cave I & II, but instead of a blue sign like those, it has a circle above the door with seven greenish-blue lights in it. As soon as you enter, drop down below the vertical laser to your right and drill through the wall to find Secret Area #16 with a mineral deposit (Ruby) at the end.

Head up and to the right past the laser, up again through a few horizontal ones, and left. Hit the lasers on the left side of the room from bottom to top so that you can drop down on the other side of them. When doing so, make sure to grab the mineral deposit (Ruby) to the left of the bottom laser. Grab the orb deposit at the bottom of this shaft, then dig the dirt to the right and exit back to the main cave of Vectron. Continue down through the cave, digging all of the mineral deposits as best you can. The loot here is very high value, with things like Dark Matter ($240 for a stack of four) and Diamonds ($500 each).

Vectron – Loot Cave (3 Lights only)

At about 820-825 metres’ depth, you should find another loot cave. This depth can vary; one video had it at 825, another at 859. This one just has the three green lights above the door. No sign is near it, nor any circle with glowing lights, nor laser barriers like the final boss cave. When you enter, go to the far right, passing over a long horizontal laser below. Destroy the generator, and dig through the floor on the far right to find Secret Area #17 with four mineral deposits (Dark Matter x 3, Gravitonium x 1). Make sure to mine the Orb deposit in the soft dirt above where the lower laser was. Standing on the far-left end of this dirt, above where the leftmost edge of the laser was, fire your Steam Punch into the ceiling to get a Diamond. Exit back to the main cave.

Continue down a short distance, and you should see the final room of the game at approximately 845 metres’ depth. It is very obvious, as it has a large grey impenetrable wall around it, with only a narrow shaft two squares wide in the bottom. There are lasers in that shaft, but assuming you have followed the guide up to this point, all of them should be deactivated from destroying the associated generators. The boss fight is in there, so before you enter, make sure you have $20,000 in cash. If you’ve been thorough, you should have collected 150 orbs easily.

If you have hit $20,000 in cash already, continue to the Final Boss Room step below to finish the game. However, there is one secret area that we did not visit. You can reload your game save after you finish the boss and get all the other achievements to get the final secret area, or you can do it now if you have plenty of time. It is included in the Final Mop-Up step below. Unless you need cash or have plenty of time, just skip that step and do the boss fight to make it under the 2hr 3min mark. Assuming you took my advice, you should have gotten the achievement for all the secrets on your first playthrough anyway. If you have NOT hit $20,000 yet, do the final mop-up step now, before the final boss, in order to collect more cash.

One last thing: Before you start the boss fight or return to Old World for the mop-up/cash, return to town so that your game saves, then warp back to the boss fight entrance in Vectron and drop down. Dig down as far as you can go, until you reach hard flooring that can’t be drilled through. You should unlock Rock Bottom. Quit out and reload your save so no time on the game clock is wasted on that achievement.

Final Mop-Up

If at this point you don’t have $20,000 built up, it’s best to revisit the Old World cave and work your way down through it, collecting many of the mineral deposits you bypassed as you sped your way down through it earlier. It’s also crucial to head there to reach a specific cave for another Secret Area. The quickest way to Old World is to take the pipe on the far-right side of tumbleton. Make sure to take a teleporter with you. Whether you’re there for loot or not, make sure you at least descend to the 285-290 metre depth, and look for a cave with a sign be side it with “80 Proof” written on it. This is a loot cave, and it contains Secret Area #18. Of course this will be your last one if you return here after killing the final boss.

Inside, go through the mushroom path to the right and up. Once you reach the first ledge directly above the mushroom tunnel, climb to the upper-right corner of this area and drill the wall directly to the right to reveal the Secret Area containing a mineral deposit (Zoisite). Make sure to grab the Orb deposit to the left, amongst more mushrooms, before exiting back out to the main cave. Use your teleporter to get back to town, unload asap, and take the far-left pipe back down to Old World. Fall through the pathways you dug as fast as you can to return to Vector and get down to the 845 metre mark to reach the final boss room and finish the game.

Final Boss Room

Go right past a few lasers. Before jumping up, drill through the floor just before the wall (the darker square before the light grey) to reveal Secret Area #19, leading to the plainly visible orange sprocket item. If this is your last secret, you’ll unlock It’s a Secret to Everybody. Otherwise, you’ll get it when you return to the 80 Proof cave in Old World after finishing the game.

Use your Steam Jump combined with the Static Jump to get up the vertical shaft. Go right and drop down between two more vertical lasers to initiate the boss fight. This fight is very simple, and merely consists of three phases where you must destroy several generators around the room using your Pickaxe, Drill, or Steam Punch, followed by damaging the boss using the same. I advise using the Steam Punch for everything, including damaging the boss, unless you run out of water. It does more burst damage, and assuming you’ve been following this guide, your Pickaxe isn’t even fully upgraded anyway.

I am fairly certain the generators are randomly placed around the room, but that each Phase has a consistent number of them. Phase 1 has three generators. Phase 2 has five, and phase 3 has seven. After finishing the 3rd phase and hitting the boss a few more times, a cut scene ensues to end the game. At the game-completion screen, you will receive gold stars and their associated achievements for four categories, as well as Assimilated for finishing the game if you haven't already.
