One of Insomniac's best games makes it way to the Xbox Win 10 store and this Win 10 PC port does not disappoint. This game scales fantastically to higher resolutions like 4k and cane be played in ultra smooth 60fps. The colors and design of this game are simply eye popping at 4k60fps.
It is a real shame that this game still does not get the recognition it deserves. The same team behind the hit PS4 game, Spiderman, also made this game. Even many of the voice actors are the same, including the main character of both games. Honestly, as awesome as Spiderman and his PS4 game are, I prefer Sunset Overdrive more. By the end of Spiderman, the gameplay felt repetitive and I was just waiting for the game to be over, but with Sunset, I beat on console, and then later went back and excitedly played the game all over again on PC. Sure, its cool to be Spiderman and jump around a well re-created New York. But most of know New York city from movies, and tv, and it's playable in so many games. Sunset City, the setting for Sunset Overdrive felt so fresh and goofy and more fun to explore.
Sunset Overdrive is 3rd person action adventure game like we have come love, GTA, Crackdown, Saints Row. This game follows the same formula as those. Main story line with quests. Side-quests. And of course lots of collectables. A new energy drink turns the citizens of Sunset City into monsters and you must save the day. The story is goofy but fun, the characters are simple but silly. The combat is wild and fast. You always have to stay on the moves, and the crazy weapons of this game keep the combat changing all the time. You can grind, jump, climb, and hop around. If you stay put, you die. This forces the game to have a very fast, but fun pace. Upgrading the weapons is fun and the collectables feel like a quest, not a chore.
As far as 3rd person city based action adventure games go, this is one of my favorites and the PC with a semi beefy machine makes the experience even better.
A solid 9.5/10
