3. Superman Returns Story walkthroughUpdate notes

The game starts out in a tutorial of sorts. You'll be facing off against some meteors and putting out fires. This part of the game walks you through everything and shows you the controls and how to play. It takes maybe 5 minutes to get through the tutorial mission.

After the tutorial is over, you will be transported into War world. Ignore the fight at first. Fly around the room lifting the large discs that are stacked into towers. There is an achievement for lifting 10,000 tons over the course of the game and these objects are by far the heaviest in the game. Each one weighs roughly 65,000 pounds each. You will not be coming back to this area after this fight and nothing else in the game weighs even close to this amount. You WILL die a few times doing this as you can not get 10,000 tons in one life. But this is by FAR the fastest and easiest way to get this achievement. Lift a disc, toss it aside, lift another one, repeat until you are killed. It will start you right back at the start of this mission and you will NOT loose your progress on lifting.

Once you have your lifting achievement, the battle is quite easy. Just attack normally and throw the large discs when an enemy grows to massive size. Finishing this battle will net you the following...

Now the real game begins. You are free to roam Metropolis at this point. If you care to do so, pause the game here and enter one of the cheat codes listed in the general hints/tips section of this walkthrough. It's worth 0 gamerscore, but cheats do NOT affect achievements in this game so why not? When entering a code you will hear a chime if it is done correctly.

The story mode of this game is pretty straight forward. We will be flying by the story mode first and doing the random achievements after the story is over as it is much easier to do them without worrying about random encounters. For the moment, ignore ALL kittens you find. It will be much easier to save this achievement for later to get them one at a time going through a list. If you get even one early, it will be hard to tell which one you have gotten later on so for now just fly around looking for situations that need your assistance. After helping people and saving the city a few times, a boss fight will automatically appear on your map. The first one is Metallo. Throw cars at him until he launches a missile. Chase it down and partake in a quick time event and boss fight number one is down.

Make sure that you are using as many combos as possible during the game. There is a pause menu that gives you a list of the combos you can perform and you only need to perform 99 combos for the next achievement. This achievement is nearly unmissable as even spamming buttons when fighting will net you accidental combos.

Also, make sure to pick up lots of cars during your play through as well. You can even pick up and set down the same car 100 times if you would like. Just make sure to do this before the end of the game. For some reason, cars picked up after you have completed story mode do not seem to count.

Continue saving the city as normal for a while until the next boss fight appears. This time it will be bizarro. Use heat vision on him when he is in the air block/counter attack when he is on the ground. Defeating him will launch another quick time event and then another achievement afterwords.

Near the end of the game you will have to fight multiple bosses again that you have defeated before while not allowing the city to be damaged to bad. Just use the same methods to defeat them that you did the first time and after you defeat Mongul you will have unlocked another achievement.

The final story mission has you battling tornadoes. There are 3 mini tornadoes and one giant tornado. Make sure to save the 3 victims after the first mini tornado and if you have a good health bar when you get to the final, just blast it ignoring damage. Use heat when it is blue and cold when it is red.

The next achievement you will get at the same time as the Twisted achievement above. The reason I am listing it separate is because the achievement is for unlocking every power up. There is a cheat to unlock them all but this achievement will NOT unlock until you would have unlocked them naturally at the end of the game. The cheat does not disable the achievement, but you will not get it early using the cheat.

After the story is completed. It is time to start the mini-games and collectables. Here is a map with the locations listed for each fast flier event, bizzaro event, and kitten collectable.

This video shows all the kittens and bizarro destruction levels...

First go through the fast flier races. They are easy and you must do them in order 1-9. The next race will not unlock until you finish the previous so do them in order and you will have the following...

Next you will complete the 5 Bizarro mini-game levels. These task you with playing as Bizarro and causing lots of destruction.

Now the very time consuming 100 kittens. Follow the numbered map above and go in order from 1-100. This is quite tedious but is much easier done when the rest of the games achievements have been knocked out and you can just sit down and go in order without getting distracted.

.

Once you have the 100 kittens, 5 bizzaro levels, and 9 race achievements, you will get a 4th achievement for completing all mini games...

Once you have gotten the previous achievement you will also unlock at the same time...

Now for the 2 annoying achievements. You will have likely spent a lot of time playing this game and flying around the city. You will not likely have flown 10,000 miles or played for 12 hours yet though. After you have beaten the game, you will likely have only flown maybe 2,000-3,000 miles. So the best way to obtain this achievement is to start flying and rubber band your control so that Superman flies in a circle while you go off to do other things. I did it overnight with a play and charge kit plugged in so my controller would not shut off. Sometime during this endless flying you will hit hour 12 of playtime.

A few hours after that you will finally obtain the last achievement and have your full 1,000 gamerscore for this super easy game.
