8. Act 2
At this point, you should be ready to continue on with the main quest, Ugly Baby. The quest will bring you to Kaer Morhen where you’ll need to do other quests (you know the drill), before you’ll get the quest Brother in Arms. For this quest, you need to go round all areas and try get allies to aid you in your fight once you bring Ciri to Kaer Morhen. You will also have to have completed a side quest related to the character. Also, not all will agree to come with you no matter what you did. The one critical character is Keira Mitz. As indicated earlier after the Friends with Benefits achievement, you need to have told her to head to Kaer Morhen. Once you go round to everyone, and hopefully you kept Keira alive, the Full Crew achievement will unlock.
Bring all possible allies to Kaer Morhen for the battle against the Hunt.
Try and finish all side quests and other business before proceeding to the Isle of Mists. The game also warns you that you will likely miss out on any secondary quests as you're approaching the Isle of Mist. Once on the Isle, you will follow the firefly to a cottage. Whoever’s inside will not trust you and you will need to do three tasks to gain their trust. Once you complete them, go back to the cottage and you will be let inside. The series of events inside the cottage will eventually unlock this achievement.
After leaving the Isle of Mist, you’ll be back at Kaer Morhen. The natural course of the events at Kaer Morhen will eventually have you at Bald Mountain, where there’ll be a couple of challenging fights. Ciri’s fight isn’t too challenging and I found best strategy for on one opponent at a time rather than take on all three at once. And move around a lot. I started with Brewess, then alternated between the remaining two witches. Avoid using Blink (teleporting power) when fighting all three. Somehow, one would always got a hit in. Geralt’s battle is tougher, so prepare for it. Load up on your decotion and potions (I recommend tawny oil, thunderbolt and swallow). The fight is manageable with dodging and quen until he loses 2 bars of health. Then he goes into hyper mode with quick attacks and teleports. Move and dodge all the attacks until his final hammer blow which gets his weapon stuck in the ground. You can only get in one attack then, so get in a power attack. Keep doing this till his death.
Time to head to Novigrad in the quest Final Preparations. There will be sub quests related to this quest which will involve Avallac’h, Ciri, Yennefer and Triss which are somewhat long. You can take them in any order. There’s an achievement tied to Avallac’h’s quest, Through Time and Space. There are a few portals in this quest (poor Geralt) and the path in between them can be confusing. This video can help. All that’s left to do now is complete the quest and getting the achievement...
Visit Tir ná Lia and convince Ge'els to betray Eredin.
Ciri’s quest Payback is just that; payback to those who wronged and helped her while she was in Novigrad. It’s also dependent on your choices earlier in Novigrad with Whoreson Junior, whether he lived or died. But there’s nothing complicated about the quest.
The quest with Triss Blindingly Obvious will lead you to meet up with Dijkstra, who is having a bit of trouble with his ‘guest’. To make things a bit easier, go with the choice "I can help her" to avoid fighting the troll, and when you encounter the Fire Elemental, keep hitting it with Aard to stun it and douse its flames. Remember earlier in Novigrad you completed the quest ‘A Deadly Plot’; Well, now it’s time to execute it. When the topic of taking out Radovid comes up, choose the option to listen to Phillipa. She’ll offer herself as bait to draw Radovid. You will then get the secondary quest Reason of State at the end of Blindingly Obvious. Take up this quest before continuing with the main quest. Accept to complete the quest when Dijkstra asks you and complete it. You will hence unlock;
Now you can finish off with Yen in the last of the Final Preparations quest, The Great Escape. There will be an optional quest to enlist Zoltan’s help. Getting Zoltan to help out will make things easier in the quest, so go and see him before setting off to meet Yen. Zoltan will help in getting the witch-hunters inebriated and you can avoid most fights since most will be too boozed to fight. Just stay out of their way and only fight the ones who attack you. The rest should be easy and you’ll be able to complete the quest, and soon after complete Final Preparations.
When you complete the various missions to complete Final Preparations, you should also clear out all the witcher contracts. There could be a couple that might look daunting with the recommended level to complete them, but you should be good enough to clear them no matter your current level. Thanks to Euradayce for the list of all contracts. Complete the last one and you will unlock Geralt: The Professional.
Likely now you are at level 31-32 and can progress with the game and progressing with the main quests should get you to level 35 by the end of the game. If not, there’re a couple of spots to grind it out post-game, and you shouldn’t need much to unlock Munchkin.
Reach character development level 35.
Now on to the main quest, Battle Preparations which will also have various parts like the Final Preparations quest. Veni Vidi Vigo is an easy one. Just follow the quest markers and should be easy to complete. The Sunstone quest depends on who sits on the throne of Skellige. Trusting you got the Kingmaker achievement, then you have to deal with Madman Lugos before being told where to find Ermion. If Svaringe is king, you will have to fight with Nilfgaardians before Ermion gives you the answers you seek. Choose to go see the bard, who’ll be whale watching. When he’s giving you the story on the elven ruins, the whale he seeks will appear. Either choice that appears won’t matter, but when he asks why you seek the ruins, tell him “it’s for an adventure book you’re working on”. If you go for the pearl diver, you’ll need to dive underwater into a cave entrance near his boat. You’ll find him and his mate inside and you’ll get the info you need from them. On returning on news of the sunstone, Ciri and Yen will head off on another quest that you’re to join them on, Child of the Elder Blood. You may also continue on with the Sunstone quest with Philippa. Get to her location by boat and explore the ruins with her. A few fights here and there as you follow Philippa and you’ll get to a room with a puzzle of mirrors that you’ll need to shift. You’ll just need to shift each of the 3 mirrors once and that will do the trick. Now with the Sunstone, all to do is get out of the ruins...which was bit harder than I thought. They’re a few ghosts on your way out which proved to be a bit of a pain to deal with! After making you way out, you can make your way to Yennifer and Ciri to complete the Child of the Elder Blood quest. This one isn’t too bad either. Just carry on with the quest to the end. Just note that there will be a couple of critical choices with Ciri in the quest that will affect the end of the game.
Nothing more, but to complete the game. And just the small matter of killing the King of the Wild Hunt. But you’ll have a bit of a warm-up first by battling Caranthir. The first part of this fight is manageable. The second phase isn’t too bad either. Just keep your quen up and roll toward Caranthir when he uses the ice blasts. Things get tricky when he summons ice elementals. Luckily, you can let Caranthir do most of the damage since his ice blasts will also harm them. Don’t focus too much on the elementals since he’ll keep summoning them. Avoid them and dodge your way towards Caranthir to get your hits in. Also make use of Igni to get rid of his ice shield and get more damage done.
Now for Eredin. But first you’ll need to make your way to him. There’ll be mini-skirmishes on your way to Eredin’s location that you can just ignore and follow the markers. The fight with Eredin is a bit grindy. Nothing special, but dodging, rolling, get 1-2 hits in, then move away and Quen. This fight also has multi-phases, but the strategy is more-or-less the same. Use Igni just as you did with Caranthir to get his ice shield down. With patience, you should beat him in no time unlocking...
Nothing for you to do now but complete the game which is mostly cut-scenes and moving from one point to the other. The ending plays out differently depending on the critical choices you made in the game. Whether, good, bad or tragic, at the epilogue you will unlock;
Walked the Path
Finish the game on the "Death March!" difficulty level.
Ran the Gauntlet
Finish the game on the "Blood and Broken Bones!" or "Death March!" difficulty levels.
And that's that for the main story.
