13. Ticket to Ride DLC - Germany

Finally, we are heading to Europe and we are staying there for the remaining three DLC maps. First up we have Germany. No major new mechanics are on this map. Instead of the normal destination tickets, you can now draw either short or long destination tickets. Since you can restart the map until you have favourable tickets it doesn’t really add to the challenge.

Intercities & Mega Commuter

The first achievement on the list requires you to “Win while only completing short Destination Tickets.” At the start of the game make sure to only draw short tickets and restart until you have three or so tickets that are close together. Play against a single AI bot and use standard strategy:

Intercities

Win while only completing short Destination Tickets. (Solo)

The next achievement will unlock once you “Win while only completing long Destination Tickets.” which is the same as last achievement only with the long tickets:

Mega Commuter

Win while only completing long Destination Tickets. (Solo)

Das Rheingold

This next achievement doesn’t have much room for error. You will need to connect the following cities within 15 turns and also win the game afterwards:

- Niederlande (The Netherlands, red-white-blue flag)

- Düsseldorf

- Mainz

- Karlsruhe

- Freiburg

- Schweiz (Switzerland, red flag with white cross)

You can connect them in any order. You are going to need to connect either Koblenz or Frankfurt on your route as well. Both options are fine as the optimal route through Koblenz takes 13 turns and the optimal route through Frankfurt takes 14 tuns. There will be a turn tracker for the achievement on your HUD.

You start out with 4 coloured train cards. There are a total of 14 spaces on the board you are going to need to fill if you are routing through Koblenz and 16 if you are routing through Frankfurt so you will need an additional 10 or 12 cards. This will take either 5 or 6 turns to draw. You will need an additional 8 turns to place your trains on the board. This means that you only have one or two turns to draw extra coloured cards in case you didn’t get the right colors.

Count the number of cards you need for every colour and look out for what you need ahead of time. If your opponent takes one of the routes you need you will probably need to reset the game.

Since you need to win the game I would recommend you to take long destination tickets because they earn you more points. Keep resetting until you draw one or two tickets that require you to connect Switzerland or France to a city in the north as these will be on your route and yield a lot of points.

Taking the Berlin to Hamburg route is also a good idea if you can because there are many tickets that lead to Berlin plus long routes earn extra points. Another tip I can give you is to draw another round of tickets after you finished the achievement requirement and hope you can also complete these as well because the player that completes the most amount of tickets will be awarded the bonus.

The AI is eager to claim one of the single train routes you need early on so claim these for yourself as soon as possible. Using this strategy will most likely earn you the achievement without too much trouble:

Das Rheingold

Win connecting cities of the Rhine in 15 turns: Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Mainz etc. (Solo)

Berlin Traveller

Finally, we will need to “Win while connecting Berlin to the 5 surrounding countries.” There are five countries you will need to connect. To illustrate the general route you want to claim, view the picture below:

Image 1

This route is similar to the one we needed in the previous achievement only the key here is that you will need to connect Berlin as well. This can be frustrating as connecting Berlin requires many trains of a single colour. Also, the AI likes to claim the Hamburg to Berlin route more often than not so don’t wait too long on claiming it for yourself.

Again the key to winning here is by picking long tickets and resetting the map until you draw one or two tickets that require you to connect Switzerland or France to a city in the north as these will be on your route and yield a lot of points.

Also, make sure that you don’t forget one or two routes in the south as the map can become quite cluttered over there and you might look over the fact that you forgot to connect Lindau to Austria.

Using this route and strategy will earn you the achievement without too much trouble:

Berlin Traveller

Win while connecting Berlin to the 5 surrounding countries. (Solo)
