8. Ticket to Ride DLC - Legendary Asia

From now on there will be no more achievements left like the “Pressure Gauge 400” and “15 Tickets Punched”. This DLC takes place in Asia and only has four achievements. All achievements require you to win and there is a decent amount of luck involved in each one.

The new gameplay mechanic is that there are mountain routes. These routes require twice as many trains to claim. However, you do not need twice as many coloured cards to claim them! Mountain routes are the spaces that have the “chain-like” look.

Mountain Hermit

For this first achievement, you need to “Win while only claiming Mountain routes.” A mountain route is any route that has at least one “chain-like” space. So a route with one normal and one “chain-like” space is also considered a mountain route and will not void the achievement.

Restart until you draw tickets that have cities next to mountain routes. Not every city can be connected this way so keep that in mind. Make sure to connect your cities first. After that start claiming the longer mountain routes for some extra points. Play against a single AI to maximise your chances of winning. In my experience winning the game was the part that came down to luck. The mountainous routes that you claim are generally short and don’t earn many points. You basically have to hope that your AI opponent played poorly and didn’t complete many tickets.

Keep resetting until your odds are favourable and hope for the best. You should get this in a few tries:

Next, you will need to “Win with the Asian Explorer Bonus connecting 22 Cities.” The Asian Explorer bonus is awarded to the player that connects the most cities. Connecting 22 cities will 100% guarantee the bonus so you only need to worry about the second part. Next to your avatar, there is a small counter that tells you how many cities you gave currently connected.

Now you only have 45 trains to connect 22 cities. However mountainous routes claim double trains. Keep this in mind as you will need to connect as many short routes as possible, prioritising normal routes over mountainous routes. All cities must be connected to a single network so don’t skip any routes.

A general rule of thumb is that you should avoid four train routes a much as possible. Focus on the two train routes, play against one AI, and make sure to restart the game until you have favourable tickets. A good rule of thumb is to claim everything east of “Karachi” and make sure you claim “Hanoi - Macau - Taipei - Shanghai - Peking” early as the AI will likely try to claim this route for itself. Like the previous achievement, winning the game is 50/50 so hope for the best and keep playing until you get lucky:

Double Trouble

“Win while only claiming Double-routes.” Note that a double route is not a two train route but a route that has an adjacent route next to it. The strategy for this achievement is the same as with the “Mountain Hermit” achievement. However, instead of mountain routes, you only claim double routes.

The standard strategy applies. Make sure your destination tickets are reachable by the double route. Draw good tickets and hope for the best. After you win you will unlock:

Faster Than a Mongolian Horse

The last DLC achievement has the most luck involved as you have to basically need to get the right coloured cards and hope that you also win the game. You will need to “Win in 24 turns or less” which is only achievable by claiming the mountain routes.

My strategy was basically to hope for the best each time so that I could play fast and get as many games in as possible. Your starting tickets don’t really matter that much because you are only able to complete very few of them within 24 turns. Restart until you have low point tickets. I would then start drawing cards for the first 10 turns or so, hoping for a few locomotives. Now start claiming all the double mountain routes first. After that, I would focus on long routes and routes with mountains only. Unless you have a chance to complete a ticket your best best is to claim long and mountainous routes because you won’t be able to meet the 24th turn requirements.

Also, make sure that you end on two trains, or else the game won’t end. You really don’t want to take an extra turn to void the achievement. My mindset would be to always try to end the game by turn 24 and then hope for the win. Trying to win first and hope to end quickly is much harder than going for the finish line and hoping for the best.

This took me around 10-20 tries so don’t give up early. This achievement requires a different kind of playstyle compared to other achievements and takes practice to be adequate. There is a counter on your HUD displaying what turn you are on. If you manage to win by turn 24 you will unlock:
