3. Story walkthrough
When you first start playing Titanfall, you will be put into training. Here you will learn the basics of Titanfall: the controls, the wall running/parkour and of course how to use your Titan. There are 14 parts to the training and it does not take much time at all. When you get the last part of your training you will be put against endless waves of enemy Titans until you die and are forced to eject from you Titan. You will then unlock:
Note: When you are at the last part of training (part 14) you will have a chance to unlock ‘Vortex Volley’ (see below). Simply use your vortex shield to catch the bullets from an enemy’s vortex shield and launch them back at the enemy. This achievement will be detailed more below, if you miss this chance don’t worry you will have plenty more.
Catch a projectile shot from a vortex with your own vortex
The first thing you'll probably want to do is play the Campaign. The players in it are generally lower skill level and this will allow you to get a grasp of the game.
Select Play campaign and you will see a short cut scene before you are put into a lobby. You will be put on either the IMC or the Militia team. I recommend quitting the game before it ends if you are going to lose (that is, only finish the match completely if you are going to win). You will retain all your experience but will not get credit for playing the mission. There are 9 total missions. Once you complete all nine you will unlock:
Or if you are on the militia team:
Along the way you will level up and once you hit level 5 you will be able to change a custom pilot loadout which will unlock:
If you rename that custom loadout, you will unlock:
Also when you hit level 10 you will be able to change a custom titan loadout which will also unlock:
At this point you should have the above achievements and you should also have 18 campaign games played due to completing the campaign as both teams. You will have unlocked two new Titan chassis’, the Quick Play ability and the ability to select any campaign map to play. I recommend playing any maps you did not win. You can identify these maps in the mission select screen by the gold cup next to the faction icon on each mission screen. As you do this you can be working towards Frequent Flyer, which requires you to play 50 campaign games.
Note: Most gamers are reporting that if they select a specific level they need a win on, it nearly always places them on the IMC side. Therefore, when going for your Militia Elite Pilot achievement, it is best to search via the 'quick play' option on the campaign screen until you get put on the Militia side. Depending on what map you're on for the current game, you may need to back out and search again (if it puts you on map 5 and you need maps 3 and 4) because it rotates through the maps in order until it reaches the 9th one and 'finishes' the campaign. If you're put on an earlier map than the one you need, just stay in the lobby and keep playing as it cycles through the maps.
Once you're done with all this, you should have:
The next set of achievements you will want to go for, and start working towards, are the win-specific achievements. You can easily boost these or go for them legitimately; I will cover both ways however I suggest boosting if you want to complete this quickly. The achievements are to win 50 games in each game mode and you can track this in the achievement app. To quickly work out how many wins you have, view the achievement in the achievement app and divide your percentage by 2.There are 5 game modes in Titanfall so you will need 250 wins in total. There is also an achievement called ‘I’ve Seen It All’ which requires you to play every map on every game mode once. You can work towards this whilst you complete the win specific achievements.
The Boosting Method
Boosting in Titanfall is a very simple thing to do. You will need to create 2 parties of 6 people and have the leader of each party change their database to Japan West. The 2 party leaders will then communicate in some way and search at the same time in order to get into a game with each other. The best method is called the backing out method: one team will back out straight away granting the other team a victory. The only drawback is connection issues may cause delays and setbacks in the sessions. This works well with every game mode but Last titan standing, where the fastest method is to have the losing team auto eject at the start of each round until the game is over and then swap teams.
The Legitimate Method
In Attrition killing anything on the enemy team counts towards the score limit, which is 300. Having a good, well communicating team of people will get you very easy wins in this game mode. Make sure to target Pilots and Titans as Pilots give 4 points and Titans five 5 points so killing multiple will get you a big lead or help you catch up if your are losing.
Last Titan Standing
This game mode is extremely easy to win in if you have the right tactics and a good team. I got 5 wins in one go playing with 5 of my friends. Our strategy was to stay well in cover and in our side of the map. The other team would come rushing towards us and we would target them, using shields to protect ourselves and well-timed rockets to take out the enemies health and shields. Another tactic is to put on nuclear ejection and if you get doomed you rush towards an enemy titan and eject, taking out some of their health in the blast. Make sure to always be helping your team mates and never go round solo as this is dangerous and you could get attacked by multiple Titans and without backup and 99% of the time you will lose the fight.
This game mode is basically attrition but only killing Pilots counts towards your score limit, which is 50. I have played and won 30+ matches of this game mode legitimately, so I can give good advice for it. The easiest way I found is to use a run and gun (SMG/Run n Gun) class along with an over powered Titan. With this you should just run round looking for Pilots on your map and attacking them. Burn cards such as ‘Map Hack’ and ‘Satellite Uplink’ will help with finding Pilots.
To win in Hardpoint you must capture and hold the A, B and C points so you can gain points towards the limit, which is 400. If you are playing solo I recommend you choose a point, capture it and then stick to it. When you get your Titan call it in and put it on auto pilot whilst you control the point. If the point has access for a Titan then you can hop in your Titan whilst controlling the point. If you are playing as a team you should put 2 people in each point and ‘triple cap’ the other team or if that doesn’t work then put 3 people in 2 points.
Capture the Flag
The score limit on this game mode is 6. A game is split into 2 rounds, after the first round time is up or a team captures 3 flags the second round begins. The teams swap sides and have to capture the enemy’s flags 3 times again. I recommend playing in a team who can all communicate and know the basics to Titanfall. One person should sit near your flag and put satchel charges on it so when it is taken he can detonate them to kill the flag carrier. 2 or 3 people should go mid map in Titans to keep back the enemies. Then there should be around 2 people attempting to capture the flag. Fast ways to capture the flag are to put on a Stryder Titan, grab the flag get back in the Titan and dash back to your flag. Another way is too use zip lines if they are on the map you’re playing or use rare burn cards such as ghost squad and permanent stim to get the quickly cross the map.
MISCELLANEOUS ACHIEVEMTNS/MOP UP
At this point you should have 15-20 achievements left before you finish the game. Here I will cover the achievements I have left out and skill based achievements. Gen 10 and All the Hardware will not be featured on this page and will have separate pages dedicated to them.
As you play through the game you will level up. There are two level specific achievements in the game one for reaching level 25 and one for reaching 50. To reach level 50 you will need to gain around 900,000 xp. The fastest way to level up by far is to complete challenges. Each challenge has 5 tiers.
Tier 1-500 xp
Tier 2-1000 xp
Tier 3-2500 xp
What you will want to do is get a weapon to Tier 5 and then move on to another weapon. My friend stacked up a bunch of weapon challenges on Tier 5 and completed the challenges in one game and got 70,000xp in that game. I have done this myself and I got 55,000xp in a game. I gain around 8,000xp per game without challenges which is not bad either. So in summary the fastest way to level is to get challenges to Tier 5 and get 10,000xp.
Once reaching level 50 you will be prompted to ‘regenerate’. DO NOT DO THIS! By regenerating your Pilot you will lose all your challenge progress which will reset you progress towards ‘All The Hardware’ (see page 5). First, you need to decide if you will be getting to Gen 10. If you will be, feel free to immediately regenerate. The Gen 10 page of this walkthrough will tell you when to focus on 'All The Hardware' (Gen 8). If you're not interested in Gen 10, or simply are not sure, then make sure you DO NOT regernate until you've unlocked 'All The Hardware'.
You don't need to take all the challenges for each weapon to tier 5 to unlock all of its attachments. Most only take a challenge level or two. You should be able to do all the pilot ones in one sitting if you put your mind to it, but the titan weapons may take a little longer.
You do not have to do this and can unlock ‘All The Hardware’ later on but as soon as you want to regenerate you will unlock:
Pull and Pull Harder
When an enemy Titan gets ‘doomed’ or goes ‘critical’ the Pilot can eject into the air. When this happens you can shoot the Pilot out of the air. The best way to this in my opinion is to use the Chaingun and take careful aim on the Pilot as he falls. Another way to this is to Rodeo a Titan and when the Pilot ejects you will also be ejected. Look for the Pilot and shoot him as you drop alongside him (or throw satchel charges). This achievement can be easily boosted in LTS.
For Pull Harder you need to get an ejection kill with the Plasma Railgun. Use the Instant Shot mod. Try to judge the speed of the Pilot and where to shoot perfectly, I found it easier to aim below the Pilot but some people find it easier to aim above the Pilot.
Kill 10 ejecting Pilots
Kill an ejecting Pilot with the Plasma Railgun
I Killed Them All
This achievement is very hard to obtain legitimately and the fastest way by far is to boost it. If you want to do it legit then there are a few ways to get it. Kill some enemies when they are near the evac point with your gun or grenades and Satchel Charges. Some enemies will be in Titans so you will need to take them out too. If any enemies actually get in the drop ship you will have to destroy it before it takes off and make sure you get the last shot and not an assist. If you get the rare occasion where every enemy gets in the drop ship then this is your perfect chance to destroy it.
This achievement is easy but a little time consuming. Play a game mode like CTF or Hardpoint as these game modes are slow and will give you more time to wall run. Find a nice place on the map and run up and down the walls until you die or the game ends. You can keep track of your progress by going to Personal Stats> Distance. You will need to run 5km to unlock the achievement.
If you're going for Gen 10, then don't bother dedicating running time to this as you will likely unlock it long before Gen 10. Probably around Gen 3 or 4 tops.
All The Cards
You unlock Burn Cards by doing certain challenges and activities within the game. For example you get a Burn card for winning and you get multiple Burn Cards for completing Tier 5 challenges. Some Burn cards are useful however others are not, depending on your play style. I recommend you get rid of all Burn cards that you do not need so you can make space for new ones. You can only hold 25 Burn Cards at a time so make sure to remove cards you don’t need or want. You’ll need 500 cards to get this achievement which should take you to about Gen 2 or 3.
Superior In Everyway
This achievement requires you to kill 1000 AI enemies. This is cumulative through the generations so it doesn’t reset if you go up a generation. This is a very easy achievement as AI’s are in every game mode however some game modes are better for killing lots in. Attrition tracks the amount of AIs you kill under Minion kills on the scoreboard and you can average about 20-30 kills per game.
My Robot Army
For this achievement you must hack 20 Spectres. This is easy the last campaign mission and the map Corporate have a load of Spectres for you to hack. Spectres are the robot looking things and when you walk behind them it will prompt you to press X. Hold X for about 5 seconds and you will hack the Spectre however it will automatically hack all the others around you, but the achievement requires you to hack them manually so only the one you hacked yourself counts. By playing on the last campaign mission you can get about 5-10 hacks per game making it easy to get the achievement.
I Like A Challenge
This achievement is very easy to complete, especially for 50G. Many people try to get this achievement by using weapons that have a lot of challenges which will waste their time. The fastest way to do this is by using the ‘Archer Heavy rocket’ under Anti-Titan Weapons. This weapon has one challenge you need to complete which is to kill 10 Titans with it. Once you have done that the achievement will pop.
Another easy achievement. At the end of every game, apart from Last Titan Standing, there is an epilogue. This is where the losing team have to run to an escape drop ship and jump on it. To unlock this just lose a game, jump in the escape ship and wait for it to leave. 2 important things to note are that once you’re in the ship you cannot be shot by any enemy Pilot but enemies can shoot the ship down, even though it is pretty hard to destroy.
Survive an evacuation
All Charged Up
This achievement is also easy to complete. It can be won on AIs and Pilots. Just wait for a group of enemies to run past, Spectres go round in groups of 6 sometimes, and shoot them with the Arc Cannon. The achievement should pop but if it doesn’t just try again.
Death From Above
Yet another easy achievement. This is a cumulative achievement so you won’t have to do it in one go. When you are ready to call in your Titan try to aim it at some enemies, preferably grunts as they tend to stand around more so than spectres. It should hit them but if they move try to coax them back into the drop point in time. The Warpfall Transmitter in the Tier 2 Kit is a good help for this if you are having trouble.
This one is not so easy. You must snap the necks of 10 Pilots. To do this you need to sneak up behind an enemy until it prompts you to press RS. You must be standing still and relatively close to them when you press RS because otherwise 9 times out of 10 you will perform a jump kick instead of a neck snap. Press this and you will snap the Pilots neck. Repeat this 10 times to get the achievement.
Ride ‘Em Cowboy
To ‘Rodeo kill’ a Titan you need to jump on top of the Titan. The best way to do this is to get on top of a building and wait for a Titan to walk past and jump on him. Once you’re on top of the Titan you will do a short animation and then you just need to shoot. The best weapon for Rodeo kills is the Spitfire LMG. When you are shooting the Titan it will attack his health and not his shield making it an easy kill. Be sure to kill the Titan fast or the Pilot may jump out to kill you himself.
I gave a short tutorial for this achievement at the start of the walkthrough. You need to have the Vortex Shield Tactical Ability equipped. When you see an enemy Titan put up their Vortex Shield and shoot at it. When they launch the bullets back at you pick them up with your Vortex Shield and then launch them back at the enemy.
Catch a projectile shot from a vortex with your own vortex
I Could Get Used to This
This requires you to use 5 Titan Burn cards. These are the cards that change your Titan in some way. Check the solution for a full list. Use any 5 and you'll net the achievement. If you need some, there's usually at least one or two available cheap as a daily deal. Don't waste credits trying to get them from packs.
Call in your Titan 25 times. This will come whilst you play; you should get a Titan every game so should take 25 games to complete. You will get your Titan after 4 minutes and then every 2 minutes after that. To get your Titan faster you can use Burn Cards or kill enemy Pilots which will take 30 seconds of the timer.
Best In Class
For this achievement you will need to come first in your team. This is very easy to do and will come naturally. If you want to get it quickly then play the objective. For example capture the most flags in CTF or kill the most Titans in LTS etc.
There are two achievements tied to having a winning streak. You need a streak of 5 and 10. This could be boosted. I also found it incredibly easy to get a team of six people in a session and simply play Hardpoint. Assign 1 person to each capture point, and then have a team of 3 who go to different points as necessary. As long as everyone plays for the team instead of the highest personal score, it's nearly impossible to lose.
I did encounter some glitches where players in my session would disconnect at the end of the game and this would reset their win streak. It happened to me at 9, twice. You simply have to start over and get it done. Our group, which had never played together and was not particularly great, ended with a 23 game winning streak (and we didn't lose, we just ended it).
