Hello, and welcome to the walkthrough for Townscaper!
To quote the publisher,
"Build quaint island towns with curvy streets. Build small hamlets, soaring cathedrals, canal networks, or sky cities on stilts. Block by block.
No goal. No real gameplay. Just plenty of building and plenty of beauty. That's it.
Townscaper is an experimental passion project. More of a toy than a game. Pick colors from the palette, plop down colored blocks of house on the irregular grid, and watch Townscaper's underlying algorithm automatically turn those blocks into cute little houses, arches, stairways, bridges and lush backyards, depending on their configuration."

This will be a really simple and quick completion, and most of the achievements can be completed in any order. Let's dive in!
Given the simplicity of this game, there are no real tips or tricks to it. As long as you can understand the controls, you should have no trouble unlocking all of the achievements. Townscaper is a "play anywhere" game, and as such, there are multiple control schemes.
In addition, the availability of a touch screen on a Windows PC provides additional functionality:
- Tap on a block to place a piece.
- Long press on a piece to remove it.
- Drag to rotate the camera.
- Pinch to zoom.
The first thing we need to do is to turn the grid on. Open the menu, either by pressing , Esc, or clicking on the cog in the top right corner of the screen. From the menu, look around the middle of the selection for a checkbox labelled "Grid". Select it.
You will now see a grid marking the game area. This will make it a bit easier to work with the map, but will make one particular achievement easier, as we will later need to look for a specific arrangement of blocks.
Place down one block. Build two squares on top of it. This will create a house with a spire, unlocking your first achievement.
Next, build an area of 3x3. Next, build a second level, but leave the middle empty. This will create a garden, unlocking your second achievement.
Next, place a block down, and then place another one on top of it. Select a different colour, before placing a third block on top. Instead of the house with a spire, you will create a lighthouse, unlocking your third achievement.
Next, place a row of 3x1 blocks, and two more blocks to add a second and third level in the middle. If you are starting with your lighthouse, you can simply add a block on either side. Lastly, remove the block from the centre ground position. This will create a hook, unlocking your fourth achievement.
Next, build an area of 5x5. Next, build two layers around the outside. This should give you a larger garden. Lastly, remove the middle block from the middle layer on all four sides. This will add a sculpture to your garden, unlocking your fifth achievement.
SculptorDecorated a garden with a sculpture.
Next, build an area of 3x3. Build a 2x3 section on the second level, and build it up to a third level. Finally, remove the centre block from the middle level. This will create a church door, unlocking your sixth achievement.
Next comes the tricky one. Start a new game. This will give you an empty map, where you are free to scroll around. Keep scrolling until you come to a round area. We need a perfectly round section, and they can be tricky to find; you want to look for a set of six sections forming a hexagon, with the outer ring forming a near-perfect circle. The outer ring should contain exactly twelve squares. Once you have found it, build a circle, leaving a single empty space in the middle. Build it up a second level, before completely removing the bottom level. If you found the right area to do this, this will create a floating tower, unlocking the seventh achievement.
PropelledBuilt a floating town supported by propellers.
If the section is not circular enough, then you will create scaffolding under the building, instead. Delete it, and continue looking for that perfect circular spot.
By now, you should have placed 100 blocks, unlocking the first cumulative achievement.
Next, place blocks on top of each until you reach the height limit of 255 blocks. You may need to change the camera angle so that you can keep clicking on the top of your tower. Reaching the height limit will unlock the second-last achievement.
If you position the camera so that you are looking directly down on the tower, you can position the cursor so that it remains on the roof of the tower as you build up. This will allow you to spam the place button to reach the desired height much quicker. If this fails to pop for you, try starting a new game to build on a fresh map.
The final achievement is the second cumulative achievement and requires the placement of 1,000 blocks. Just keep spamming the place button until it unlocks. If you've been following this guide, you should have already placed about 350 blocks; 650 to go!
If you would like to keep count, start a new game before you continue building. If you enter the menu, you will see a counter under the "Undo" option that counts all of the moves you have available for undoing. As long as you do not remove blocks, this will tell you how many blocks you have placed.
And that's it! 1000GS, and another completed game.
