Welcome to my Uno Walkthrough!
This is another installment in the famous UNO card game on the console. If you are not familiar with the game, I strongly recommend playing the Tutorial or reading the rules. Basically, you need to get rid of all of your cards on the hand before anyone else while avoiding drawing any new cards.
If you follow this guide, you will get the achievements in the fastest way possible. However, note that I STRONGLY recommend to do this with at least one more player (preferably a friend) just to keep it simple. In fact, you will need another physical player for some achievements, since finding randoms can take some time.
With that said, I play my second card...UNO!!
Seeing as getting cards is all down to pure luck, there is not much in sorts of tips that might help out a lot. However, I will try my best to provide some things.
Playing with house/custom rules changes the game to a rather large extent, so don't rush into things if you play with these on. Also, the bonus set cards change the game to a large extent, so unless you are really good (and lucky) at this game, I don't recommend using any of these unless you aim for certain achievements. The bonus set cards are also worth quite a lot of points if your opponent still has them in their hands when you win.
Use special cards as soon as you get them, especially if you aim for the achievements related to them. This might sound obvious, but there isn't anything more annoying than missing your chance to play these if you want to get the achievements quickly.
Keeping the colourchanger cards for last in your hands is a double-edged sword. It will certainly assure victory if this is your last played card. However, it will also give another player a tremendous amount of points if he happens to finish before you. Also, you will need to wait for a rather long amount of time to get rid of all the other cards if there isn't the right colour on the stack. Ideally, you have two of these cards or even more to assure victory, but again, keeping them too long will certainly limit your options.
Alright, at this point, I strongly recommend to get either one or up to three other players to help out with this. EVERY achievement can be won by playing with other players, and it will make your struggle a little bit more doable and maybe more enjoyable if you can control 100% of the cards that are played. I will write down the achievements in the most likely order they will unlock, but please note that some might unlock before you unlock others, so there are other tips to get the corresponding achievements for the things you do.
So, with that said, we start our first match (I recommend offline for now) and turn at least 3 house rules on in the match setup. For now, you need to win solo a few times, so hang in there. So upon finishing and winning your first round, you will unlock the following two achievements. Note that for finishing AND winning, there is one achievement for each!
WelcomeComplete the First UNO round.
Now continue beating the AI 5 times with house rules, and you will unlock the following two achievements. One is for winning five matches against 3 AI players, and one is for winning 5 matches with house rules.
Our HouseWin match 5 times with at least 3 house rules.
Now you should be pretty close to getting the achievement for calling UNO 10 times. This occurs when you only have two cards left and you play either one. Make sure to press the corresponding button either before or while playing the card. Otherwise, you get "called on" and have to draw two cards.
Be HeardSuccessfully Calls UNO 10 times.
Of course, there is an achievement for calling on an opponent 15 times as well, so I will put it here. Chances are, however, that you will not get this achievement until far later in the game. Again, I recommend doing this with real players rather than the AI, since the AI tends to be incredibly (if not to say unfairly) fast in calling on it, so you will have, most of the time, no chance to react on it.
Good EyeSuccessfully Challenge a missed call UNO 15 times.
So, now for the grinding, if you could call it that. You will need to do the following things in order to get an achievement. However, these are down to luck in drawing the right cards:
- Play a total of 100 Action cards: This will come naturally as you will use the cards anyways while playing normally. The cards that count are Skip Cards, Wild Cards, Reverse Cards, and Draw 2 Cards. In addition, the bonus cards from any other pack count towards these too.
- Make an opponent draw 10 times 4 cards with a wildcard: Self explanatory, simply use the +4 card on 10 occassions.
- Change colour 40 times: The wildcards count both the regular and the +4 towards this achievement
ActionPlay Action Cards 100 times.
JokerSuccessfully make opponent draw cards with Wild Draw Four 10 times.
So, here are the last achievements in the game and most likely the last ones you will unlock. Although the order of the achievements doesn't really matter, here is the order I think works the best in regards of completion.
Grab 1-3 other players and exchange wins with them. You need 10 in total. However, while doing them, I recommend to work on either missing achievements from above or (which I strongly recommend) the next 2 achievements. Puting up a boosting session is advised.
Set a game to custom cards and to the highest amount of points. Considering you have another real player, make sure to tell that person (or persons) to stack up on cards. Basically he/they need/s to keep ALL special cards he/they can draw, especially the wildcards! Now, as soon as there are no more cards to be drawn or the players have at least 20+ cards on their hands, finish the round. This should net you without any doubt either over 700 points or close to 700 right away and unlock the following achievement. Make sure to stay underneath 500. Otherwise, the match will end. There is a lot of trial and error included in that one, but considering that you need to win 10 matches anyways, this should come at some point.
First off, each player needs to focus on getting and keeping the +4 wildcards. As soon as one is aquired, the player that would "receive" the card (forced to draw 4 cards) has to be either you or any other of your boosting partners, NOT an AI player! This is important since AI players tend to ignore the option of challenging this card. Secondly, you need to make sure to have (or the player that uses it) at least one card of the currently played colour on your/other players' hand. Now simply receive or use the card, and use the challenge option. This will prompt the other player to draw 6 cards instead of you drawing 4, basically rendering the card useless. This has to be done a total of 20 times, so this will most likely be your very last achievement in this game.
Congratulations on this easy completion!
