Welcome to the TrueAchievements walkthrough for XDefiant.
XDefiant is a free-to-play multiplayer-only first-person shooter published by Ubisoft. You play as one of many Ubisoft-branded factions, each of which give unique abilities to disrupt and destroy your opponents. XDefiant has 13 achievements that will require you to play online, complete objectives, and efficiently kill your enemies.
XDefiant will take the average player 25-35 hours to complete, most of which can be completed within the first 10 hours.
In this guide, I will be reviewing and clarifying requirements for basic multiplayer achievements. some strategies that can be used to the skill-based achievements, and tips for the long-term weapon and player level achievements.
A Note About Seasons: Similar to many other multiplayer games, XDefiant will evolve over time. Typically the largest jumps in this evolution will come at the start of each season, with the introduction of new Fanctions, Characters, Weapons, Map changes/Updates, and possibly more. This walkthrough was written during XDefiant Preseason (May-June 2024). If any such changes are significant from the perspective of unlocking achievements, this walkthrough will be updated accordingly. However, there may be minor details, in particular within the image and/or video content used, that become out-of-date over time. I will refresh the image and video content should it ever become significantly misleading or detrimental to the quality and accuracy of the walkthrough.
With all that out of the way, let's get started!
CONTROLS
For this guide, I will be assuming you are using the default controls. It's okay if you don't, but when we go over specific button inputs, yours may be different. Below are the controls we will be using the guide.
WEAPON LOADOUTS
At the beginning of each match you will need to choose a weapon loadout. I would recommend using a custom loadout with the ASSAULT RIFLE AK-47 or the LMG M249.
AK-47
M249
The TTK (time-to-kill) on both of these weapons is very good. The LMG M249 does not need to be unlocked and can be used immediately when starting the game; however the AK-47 will require unlocking. To unlock the AK-47, you will need to deal 4000 damage with an assault rifle. The M4A1 assault rifle is available immediately, and will need to be used to unlock the AK-47. It is not difficult to deal 4000 damage over to course of a couple matches, but if you want to only use one weapon to unlock every achievement, use the LMG M249.
Leveling up these weapons will give you weapon attachments. Weapon attachments can increase damage, suppress recoil, shoot faster, and help tailor the weapon to your needs. I would personally recommend using attachments that reduce recoil, such as the Tactical Grip, Padded Stock, and Lightweight Grip.
You will need to upgrade one weapon to Level 50 to unlock the achievement "Weapon Master." This can comfortably be done before the end of the walkthrough, but I would recommend using one weapon from the start of the game, just to make sure you don't have this achievement hanging over your head.
FACTIONS AND CHARACTERS
At the beginning of each match, you will also need to choose a faction. These factions offer many abilities and passives that will help you complete achievements, and we will go over specifics in the XDefiant Walkthrough section. In this section, we will be going over all factions available during XDefiant Preseason.
CLEANERS
The Cleaners are a powerful faction that can deal massive amounts of damage. Their passive trait, "Incendiary Rounds," inflicts extra burn damage but decreases weapon range. This allows you to kill enemies faster, and sometimes kill them after you die. The ability "Firebomb" can one-shot enemies if you are close enough, and "Incinerator Drone" sends a burning drone to explode towards enemies. The Cleaner ultra is a powerful flamethrower called, "The Purifier," and can kill enemies fast.
I'd recommend using the Cleaners in the mid-point of the walkthrough, best used for getting your weapon level to 50.
ECHELON
The Echelon are a sneaky faction that are best at recon and stealth. Their passive trait, "Low Profile," prevents your character from appearing on enemies minimaps. The allows you to travel on the outskirts of maps, making as much noise as needed, and being much harder to find. The ability "Intel Suit" is a periodic sonar wave that shares the positions of enemies around you. The "Digital Ghillie Suit" allows you to turn invisible and sneak up on enemies. The Echelon ultra, "Sonar Goggles" lets you see all enemies on the map, and arms you with Sam Fisher's 5.7 pistol.
I'd recommend using the Echelon when trying to cancel enemy ultras and execute 5-Kill steaks, using your "Intel Suit" to get the drop on your enemies. They are also useful for getting assists while using the "Intel Suit."
LIBERTAD
The Libertad are a support faction that can heal themselves and teammates. Their passive trait, "Espiritu de Libertad," heals you and nearby teammates continuously. The ability "El Remedio" can be thrown on the ground to heal nearby teammates and yourself. Their other ability, "BioVida Boost," is an activated health regen canister for you and nearby teammates. The Libertad ultra, "Mediuco Supremo," deploys a backpackon the ground to give you and teammates large health and healing boost for a limited time.
I'd recommend using the Libertad when trying to execute 5-kill streaks, using the "BioVida Boost" to extend your life and heal quickly.
PHANTOMS
The Phantoms are a tanky faction that can withstand and block damage. Their passive trait, "Hardened," increased their maximum health to 120 HP. The ability "Blitz Shield" gives you a tactical shield that blocks all damage. The other ability, "Mag Barrier," allows you to deploy a barrier that blocks incoming enemy fire and grenades. The Phantom ultra, "Aegis," gives the player a spherical shield to block damage and wield a powerful blaster.
I'd recommend using the Phantoms as the first faction you use. The higher starting health is very helpful when learning maps and weapons. The Phantoms also have a specific achievement tied to this faction.
We will go over the specifics of this achievements in the XDefiant Walkthrough section.
DEDSEC
Every other faction is able to be used from the beginning, but the DedSec faction needs unlocked in the Major Challenges section. You will need to earn 700,000XP to unlock DedSec or have bought via microtransaction. You can earn 700,000XP before the playthrough is over, I'd recommend saving your money.
The DedSec are a high-tech faction that use gadgets to impede and kill your opponents. Their passive trait, "Fabricator," allows you to use another device after one has already been deployed. The ability "Spiderbot" is a power drone that will run towards an enemy to disrupt their vision, damages, and stuns them. The other ability. "Hijack," allows you to hack enemy deployed abilities and make them your own (such as Phantom "Mag Barriers," Libertad "Mediuco Supremo," and DedSec "Spiderbot"). The DedSec ultra, "Lockout," Prevents enemies from using their abilities and ultras. "Lockout" also will cancel certain ultras as they are active.
I'd recommend using the DedSec if you need assists or need to cancel enemy ultras.
Getting Started
Once you've downloaded and booted into the game, you'll be prompted to enable and change any accessibility, control, and visual settings to help your gaming experience. After you've selected "Continue," you will need to create a Ubisoft Connect Account. Extra accounts like this can be very annoying, but after this you will never be forced to look at the Ubisoft Connect Account again.
Now that you have all the paperwork out of the way, I'd recommend going into the "Practice Zone" to test controls, try out weapons, and learn the movement of XDefiant. The "Practice Zone" can be found under the "Play Menu" on the right.
Once you have a good grip on the game, I'd recommend playing the "Welcome Playlist," as you will be more likely to be match-made into lobbies with newer players, giving you a better opportunity to earn kills, assists, and wins.
The First 10-15 Hours
After you've spent some time in the "Welcome Playlist," ensuring you've been killing enemies and playing the objective, it shouldn't be long before unlocking the next few achievements.
Earning 50 kills can comfortably be done in just a handful of matches. I would recommend using the LMG M249 or the ASSAULT RIFLE AK-47, as we've gone over in the General tips and hints section.
Earning 50 Assists requires you to help someone else kill an enemy. Damage assists, shock assists, and flame assists will all progress the achievement. Kill assists DO NOT progress this achievement, as these "assists" go into the kill column.
Like "Exterminator," this achievement can be done in a handful of matches. Shooting enemies (even if you don't kill them) helps progress this achievement.
This achievement must be completed by playing as the Phantom or the Libertad Factions.
To block damage, play as the Phantom faction and use the "Mag Barrier" ability. When in a Domination or Occupy match, make your way to an objective. Hold and aim where you want to place the "Mag Barrier" and release when you choose your spot. Enemies shooting your shield will progress this achievement.
To heal damage, play as the Libertad faction and use the "BioVida Boost" or "El Remedio" abilities. When in a Domination or Occupy match, make your way to an objective. When using "BioVida Boost," press to heal nearby teammates. When using "El Remedio," hold and aim near your teammates feet and release when you choose your spot. Teammates healing will progress this achievement.
To win games, try to stay on objectives, use your faction abilities, and (obviously) gather kills. This achievement may take a while to complete, it did for me. Sometimes you may be put into lobbies against players that are very good at this game, and winning may not be possible. Other times, you could get stuck with under-performing teammates, leading to a loss. I would persuade you to not worry about this achievement too much. You will have to play many, many, matches to complete the "All Grown Up" achievement, you will unlock this achievement naturally.
Grand TourComplete a Match in 5 different Game Modes
In XDefiant, there are 6 Game Modes total: Domination, Occupy, Escort, Hot Shot, Zone Control, and Team Deathmatch. Domination, Zone Control, and Escort are all playable in the Welcome Playlist. The other three game modes, Hot Shot, Zone Control, and Team Deathmatch will have to be selected manually. If you are under player level 25, instead of selecting the "Welcome Playlist,' select "See All Playlists" and play the remaining gamemodes you need.
For this achievement you will need to a friend/another player. Invite them by going to your "Social" tab (Press while in the main menu).
Here you can invite some of your Xbox friends or your Ubisoft Connect friends. Once your friend is in your XDefiant party, complete a match, and this achievement should pop.
Some people have reported this achievement is buggy. If this happens to you, restart your game and try again; this solution worked for me.
Sending and receiving high-fives happens after matches have ended, when all 5 of your teammates are visible. Simply press on a teammate to give them a high-five. A teammate giving you a high-five also progresses this achievement, so this can unlock faster if you play well enough or if you have a friend that can help boost. In the image below, you can see everyone voted for the player on the right. If you were one of the players that voted for him, that would've progressed this achievement by 1. However, the person on the right that received all the votes had the achievement progressed by 5.
Skill-based Achievements
These achievements can be tricky and are ultimately up skill to you to complete. I will give some general tips and tricks to use and wish you good luck.
Cancelling enemy Ultras isn't too difficult, some faction ultras are harder to cancel than others.
Enemy Ultra |
Best Way to Cancel |
Cleaners "The Purifier" |
Keep your distance from the player and shoot him, this ultra gives the enemy no extra protection. --- This can be done with any faction.
|
Echelon "Sonar Goggles" |
Listen for the sonar goggles audio que and sonar waves on the ground. They can see you through walls, but they still have the same amount of health. The best way to cancel is to get behind them and kill them. --- This can be done easier with the Phantoms, as the additional health will give you more time to kill the enemy. This can also be done with the Echelon, as the "Intel Suit" can help identify where the enemy is. As DedSec, activation your ultra with cancel the enemy Echelon ultra.
|
Libertad "Medico Supremo" |
This is probably the hardest ultra to cancel, as you would have to kill an enemy with 200HP that is constantly regenerating. --- If you feel bold, try using the Cleaners to deal massive amounts of damage with you guns and "Incinerator Drone" and "Firebomb" ability.
|
Phantoms "Aegis" |
This is a tricky ultra to cancel but can be done. The best way is to sneak behind the Phantom, get inside their shield, and shoot them. --- This can be done with the Cleaners, sneaking behind the Phantom and activating the "Firebomb" ability.
|
DedSec "Lockout" |
This ultra can be annoying to play against but can be killed like any other enemy player. This ultra gives the enemy no extra protection. --- This can be done with any faction.
|
Once you've cancelled 5 enemy ultras, this achievement should pop right away.
StreakerAchieve a Killstreak of 5 or higher
This achievement can be a tricky, as sometimes you can just get unlucky. These 5 kills can come in any form, so getting kills with guns, equipment, and ultras all count.
Any faction can be used to unlock this achievement, but I would personally recommend using the Libertad, Phantoms, or Echelon. The Libertad can quickly heal themselves with the "BioVida Boost" ability The Phantoms start with 120HP, which is useful when taking on multiple enemies. The Echelon ability "Intel Suit" can tell you where enemies are, allowing you to get the drop on them.
I'd recommend staying on the edges of the map, trying to catch enemy players running through. Placing down prox mines through doorways can be a great way to farm easy kills.
This one may take you a while and is really RNG dependent on how good your enemies are.
As soon as you get to a 5-kill streak, this achievement will pop.
MVPFinish 3 Matches as MVP
To be MVP, you must have the high score in the match, not just on your team. This can be a little tricky, making your play the objective and gather kills to score.
An easy way to inflate your score is to play as the Phantoms or the Libertad. Blocking damage as the Phantoms and healing friendlies as the Libertad will give you "Support Score," that count towards your total score. I'd recommend playing as one of these factions and play the objective obsessively, using abilities to gather support score, and getting a couple kills in matches. This will get you a very high score that should put you toward the top of the leaderboards.
This one may take you a while, and is really RNG dependent on how good your enemies are/how good your teammates are.
As soon as you get your 3rd MVP, this achievement will pop
Long-Term Achievements
These two achievements will take you the longest to unlock.
Getting your weapon to Level 50 will have you earn 150,000 weapon XP (3000XP per level). I'd recommend using the AK-47 or the M249, we went over in the General tips and hints section. Each level will give you a new weapon attachment, which can help you customize the weapon to your personal likes and needs. I would recommend using one weapon from the start of the game, just to make sure you don't have this achievement hanging over your head.
As soon as your weapon hits Level 50, this achievement will pop.
This achievement will take you the longest. To get to player level 50, most players will have to play between 25-35 hours. To level up faster, gather kills, play objectives, and complete daily achievements.
Completing all of these challenges in one day will net you 22500XP. For most of your playthrough, this will be slowly unlocking in the background.
