The Metal Gear Plan
It's time to undertake a journey I've been anticipating since high school. And it's only grown larger in that time. So here's the specifics that nobody asked for and nobody wants to read!
I'll be playing through every Metal Gear game in the core canon (i.e. not Ghost Babel, Ac!d 1 or 2, or either NES game). I'm just running through the stories with extras mostly only where specified. Once I've run all the games, I'll be free to come back through and clean up as I see fit.
There may be some spoilers in here, just throwing that out there.[DONE] Eva's Tapes (PSP):
In MGS: Peace Walker, Eva sends you 7 or 8 tapes detailing The Boss's history in the time after she left Snake. The first tape is just an intro about Eva, so I'll be skipping that one and just listening to the others.
You have to unlock these first, but I already have them unlocked on the PSP version. Bonus![DONE] Metal Gear Solid 3 HD (360):
MGS3 Subsistence is my favorite game of all time. I've beaten it four times but, due to circumstances I've design, I've never played it on Normal. Basically, I was bad at games the first time I played, and later on I wanted to unlock all the movie viewer movies to unlock the secret movies. But if you replay the same save file, you can't change the difficulty. You see my conundrum.
Anyways, hyped to see how this plays when I have to pay real attention to survival![DONE] Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (PSP emulated on Android):
I have this on PSP and have beaten it, but I'm going to emulate it on my tablet because I want to map the D-pad to the right stick of a controller so I can control the camera easier.Tablet didn't work out, had to go back to PSP.[DONE] Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops+ (PSP emulated on Android):
I know this is non-canon, but I like to imagine the recruited troops hung around after PO to clean up some. Plus I just want to check this one out some.[DONE] Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD (360):
I 100%'d this on PSP (if you don't count emblems, insignias, or endlessly grinding for a handful of custom ZEKE parts), and I really enjoyed it. It's amazing what a difference moving the camera from the D-pad to the face buttons made to the playability of these games.[DONE] Ground Zeroes App (Android):
This app is crap. It's a base builder, but it's basic beyond basic, to the point of very early tedium. I'll probably mess with it one day and then move on.[DONE] Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (360):
Never played this one before! At all! Hyped! I think this takes place entirely at night, so I'm going to try to play it at night. I might go for 100% since apparently this one's pretty short anyways.[DONE] Metal Gear Survive (Trailer)
I hate Konami.[DONE] Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (360):
Also never played this. Going to try to run just the story, and then come back for cool extra missions and things later, but we'll see how it goes. I don't want to get bogged down on this playthrough, but I also don't want to not fully enjoy TPP.[DONE] [Intermission]
I need a break from fun.[DONE] Metal Gear (360):
I've played most of this before, but I think that's when I originally decided I wanted to do a chronological playthrough and stopped playing. This was during the PS2 years, mind, so this idea's been a long time coming.
I'll be playing this one on Easy because I'm bad at these. These two are going to be played on the MGS3HD disc, by the way.[DONE] Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (360):
Same type deal, twice times, twice times. Except I've only played maybe five minutes of the beginning of this one.[DONE] Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions (PSTV):
Gonna run as much of this as I can, but I'm not married to finishing it to 100% completion. I've run some of this before, and completed the VR Missions on the PSX MGS aside from the big "all levels" time trial, so I should be good enough.[DONE] Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (GCN):
I've beaten this six times. I'll try to avoid using the bandana and stealth camo. Should have the special outfits off, I think? Or maybe on. Maybe I'll just start a new save on a different memory card.[DONE] Metal Gear Solid: Philanthropy (Film):
The well-known and well-loved Italian fan film. It's been sitting, unwatched, on an external hard drive here for like a decade now. It's time.[DONE] Metal Gear Solid 2 HD (360):
Okay, this one's complicated. I might read the two in-game books first. Then play the Tanker chapter. Then, if they did indeed remove the iconic main theme for whatever reason, I'll watch the original opening credits on YouTube. Then play the Raiden VR missions (I hope I don't have to unlock those first - I may have to do them on PS2). Then finally the Plant chapter. I've beaten this game twice, but it's been a good while.[DONE] Metal Gear Solid: Philanthropy 2 (Film):
This just exists as a trailer, as they got cease and desisted after that.[DONE] Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (borrowed PS3):
All I've played of this is five minutes of not knowing the controls in the PS3 trailer at the Dew Tour years ago. I don't even own this one, since it's a PS3 exclusive. I have to borrow the game and system from a friend. I can't wait, though. I've avoided as much as I could about this game and it's going to be a hell of an experience.Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (360):
All I've played of this was a demo sometime around launch. I was not very good at it. But I'm psyched. I really don't know much outside of the basics and a few characters.
For this one, I'll be starting with the VR missions. Then the Blade Wolf DLC, then the Jetstream DLC (might have those backwards), then finally the main game.I wrote a concept for a fanfic comic once:
It's called Metal Gear Legacy, and it's set 100 years after MGS4 (I think) and stars a very old Sunny Gurlukovich at a Peace conference in a very Deus Ex: Human Revolution endgame-esque location. I'll read over it here and probably laugh.
I also wrote a concept for how a game about The Boss could work. It was seven chapters, each focusing on a different event in her life, and I think it was pretty pro. But that's neither here nor there. The Rest:
At this point, I can run back and do all the unfinished business I left behind, or play the Ghost Babel/Ac!d timeline and maybe the NES timeline if I hate myself enough.
This is going to take a while. Months at best. But I'm ready. I've been preparing for this for half my life.
