Shame that the Music & Rhythm lost it's competitiveness
It’s hard to want to compete when most people on TA just use bots and MIDI to complete them. Used to be skill.
Honestly I'd say it has more to do with the lack of quality music games coming out. I only know a single guy on TA who bothers playing 500 Let's Sing stacks haha
Ok, there is no denying that. Needless to say, I think music gaming is officially dead on Xbox. It’s a shame guitar hero live was a flop.
I don't think most people on TA use bots or MIDI to complete games. Even the Green Day drum achievement barely has any unlocks. The lack of quality for sure plays a role.
But also lack of peripherals for current gen. It's a multi-hundred dollar investment at this point. And yes, I'm not going to spend beaucoup money on 10+ Lets Sing games.
For the competitive aspect, one of the major contributors to burn out was the bots and MIDI. Add the lack of quality games to prove skill and you have an unenjoyable
experience. I’ve conversed with many of my competitors over the years and one of the most discussed issues is the ethics behind automation. It’s pretty rampant on this
sure because it can’t be tracked and usually provides some decent ratios. And yes, with Mad Catz going out, that was sorta the final blow to peripheral gaming.
Also I guess I should have asked to define "competitiveness" in this case. Who can get the most achievements in the genre, or some other metric to measure who is the
best overall guitar / bass / drum / turntable / keyboard player, singer, and dancer.
I am in the top 60 or so in the world for the genre, and I feel like I have nothing left to prove. To be in the top 20 I would need to spend a lot of money.
Outside of the achievement realm, I do feel the genre is mostly dead, which contributes to the lackluster releases. Long gone are the days I take off work to try and be
the first in the world to complete the latest Rock Band. (And I'm still salty I was 2nd to 100% Rock Band 3... but dang did I have a whole lotta fun going for those!)
In the term of metric, competitive aspect here on TA was measured by our completions. Harder completions used to earn some serious cred.
But with bots and MIDI, it’s impossible to tell who is legit and all the higher ratios have significantly dropped over time.
Silly metrics, but you’d be surprised how many active users were competing back in the prime days prior to the allowance of MIDI support.
Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t really bother me anymore. I personally quit music gaming awhile back because of it, but got revived by a couple close overtakes.
I see. Yeah, that kind of puts a damper on things. You'll always be #1 in my book :) Are they able to MIDI program the dancing games too or just GH and RB?
Luckily, the dancing for the most part requires raw skill. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of achievements can be dummied, but for 5 star or rating achievements, it’s skill.
Whereas in GH or RB and even DDR, scripts can automate and emulate all notes with no effort. It’s why I prefer Dance games over music games nowadays.
