I've been a fan of videogames since I was five. First game I remember playing: Popeye.
The arcade was a great place to experience videogames but the true videogame experience didn't happen until the NES home console came out. Thankfully, after the crash of 1983, Nintendo took the gamble with a test-market release in New York 1985 and single-handedly saved the videogame industry. Games like Metroid, Mega Man series, Super Mario Bros. series and the Legend of Zelda provided adventures that the arcade just didn't have. Plus the D-pad was pure genius.
Since then there has been many great "console wars" but Nintendo will always have that special place in history in the hearts of the more elderly gamers.
