I had planned to start Turning Point: Fall of Liberty for weeks now. As a couple of the achievements require six people, I'd joined Luuc's gaming session last month, but it fell through due to people dropping out last minute. We tried again this week and finally got to it. It took less than two hours to get all but the grindy achievements in multiplayer and I turned my attention to single-player most of the week, and due to being low on time it took me longer than it should have. The game is not only short but really easy on Normal. Well...for the most part. There are some parts that got a little hectic, with zero cover and enemies swarming from all sides. The checkpoints are also few and far between, so when you do die you have to make a bit of a trek back. Very annoying. I was also taking time every day to grind a bit in the multiplayer for about an hour or so. Except on the weekends when I did so for 2.5-3 hours. I'm averaging about 110 kills every 35 minutes (including setting the match back up and such), and I ended the week with about 1300 kills. So I'm making good progress and should be about done by the end of next week.

So...thoughts about the actual game: yuck. This game is no bueno. I don't usually care about stiff controls, poor graphics, and garbage design on its own, but all together? This game makes a Gamecube game like Freedom Fighters look like a modern classic. It's just not a good game and it's shockingly comical that the developers thought people would play this enough online to warrant an achievement for 2500 kills in ranked matches. While I don't think developers should aim low, in hindsight it was definitely an overestimate on their part. At the premise is kind of neat, but it's nonsensical how in just a few short days the protagonist goes from everyday New York construction worker to "the best shot in the resistance". Yeah, uh huh, ok.

Electrinity and I continued playing Dead Rising 2: Case West on Sunday and Monday, knocking out the last two achievements. It only took us so long because I wanted to do my final, Survivor-focused run at least partially on video but the first one corrupted so we had to make a second one. With that done Monday night I quickly saved the last few survivors. I do miss this series. I may have to jump into the Xbox One versions soon.

I realized on Saturday that I'd have to start a new game to keep my streak going because there was no way I was going to get the final multiplayer achievement in Turning Point. I thought it was time to dip back into the well of non-backward compatible XBLA titles I still had installed on my Halo: Reach Xbox 360. I settled on Swarm, as usual a game I've tried before and just hadn't gotten around to starting yet. It's REALLY easy. I'm not sure why in the world two achievements have such high ratios as I got them on the fourth level (of a whopping 11) and it took me maybe three tries to get both. Am I just that good? Maybe. But, I managed to reach the final boss just after my midnight cutoff so I couldn't actually defeat it quite yet. It's a silly, fun little game that I recommend. Reminds me of Pikmin, except instead of little helpers they're sacrificial, easily replaceable pawns.

Don't worry, little guys. Just...look away and cower together.Don't worry, little guys. Just...look away and cower together.

While I only had a few Sequences left in Assassin's Creed Unity, there was still a LOT to do. The main story is never even close to the most time-consuming part of these games; it's all about the various side things to do. Even then, the most time-consuming collectible, the chest, has never needed to be 100% collected for an achievement (I'm pretty sure...), Unity changes that with an achievement requiring all of the hundreds of chests be opened. I would do the DLC first and then move to the main story but I would always stop to grab any chests nearby. Even better, by finishing the DLC first the sword I got made the main story a joke, Speaking of the story, I felt a little let-down. I saw the end coming a mile away and it didn't really wrap up the modern-day stuff. There was no big revelation into the lore, no character development...it all felt very inconsequential to the series as a whole. But, the pain I had with the combat last time was lessened greatly with a super-powered add-on sword so at least that didn't cause me much grief. The free-running controls continued to, though. God, I've never yelled "Get down!" at an imaginary character so much in my life. At least Arno was a better character than Conner or Altair. I'm curious how Syndicate will tie in. Soon...

During the weekend, I received a message from el teby informing me he had someone that was handing out the two achievements I needed on Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition. On Tuesday, I finally messaged MthsD and I quickly used his map to grab the llama caravan and Shulker achievements. That should have been the end but on Friday I decided to set my own map for the Shulker achievement so both Shawn1991 could get the achievement (since he still needed it) and I could transfer it to the Xbox One and get it there too. Well, three hours later after setting up a very nice map...I found out they had disabled the ability to transfer 360 maps to the One LAST YEAR! I was pretty mad as with my current employment I'm more than a little defensive of the little free-time I get. But...whatever. I had fun. Too late to complain now.

Of course, as soon as I discovered my mistake I jumped on Minecraft to work on the achievement there. Luckily, I had copied my "Achievement World" so we could do the Ender crystal and Map Room achievements on Peaceful back when those were added to the game. This did mean I had to murder the Ender Dragon again, but I'd kind of figured out a trick to do so, and since this was my super map I had many strong pieces of equipment and plenty of diamonds and levels to make more. So, I quickly killed the dragon, got my achievement, and setup the achievement for Shawn1991. I'm sure I'll be back.

I'm no stranger to foreign import stacks. I've done the Japanese version of a few games and it's always nice to complete "the series". But, one such stack I never though I'd get access to is the Japanese version of Dead Rising 2: Case Zero. See, getting other games was easy, because all you had to do was fake a Japanese connection with a VPN and buy a Japanese Xbox gift card. Easy-peasy. But, games like the Dead Rising series are rated "Z", which is like our "M" in the US. This is for older gamers and requires a Japanese-based credit card to buy, something I'm sadly lacking. Well, my prayers were answered! In return for access to the AquaZone: Life Simulator DLC on my alternate gamertag, someone on Facebook was kind enough to lend me their Japanese copies of the two Dead Rising XBLA titles! Well, and the Japanese stack of The Evil Within (Psycho Break), but I don't have interest in doing that one quite yet. I was excited to play it but didn't get around to doing so until Saturday.

I forgot just how much I loved the Dead Rising 2 era of the series. All four of them are so fun! I love the style, the gameplay, everything! Dead Rising 3 was okay, but it didn't have that same Canadian + Japanese charm. So Case Zero was the first and it's so short. You can easily get all but one achievement in one "day" in-game. The only one that needs a little more TLC and attention is the for spending $100,000 at the pawn shop and even that could probably be fit into a full run-through. Why didn't developers continue doing this? A $5 taste of an upcoming game is genius. I remember eating this up back when it was released and playing Case Zero just made me even more excited for the full game.

Continuing off the other game. I rolled right into the Japanese version of Dead Rising 2: Case West. The problem with this one is the need for co-op. So I recruited my wife Electrinity and she played through with me. This...turned out to not be as big of a disaster as I feared it would be. I'm sure this is in large part to the slower pace of this series compared to similar ones. She held her own very well, with me having to revive her a whopping three times overall. The game itself is very much like Case Zero, just slightly longer and in a new location. There're also far more collectibles, with camera, survivors, and stickers to gather. I actually managed to get the cameras during our first run, but for some reason the achievement didn't pop. So, before I called it a night I quickly restarted the story and sprinted through the facility getting the cameras only. Took barely 15 minutes and this time it popped. All I have left is the PP stickers and the survivors. I think my wife may even continue playing for at least one more playthrough. She had fun!

I continued my foray into the French Revolution with Assassin's Creed Unity throughout the majority of the week. Sunday evening I managed to reach Sequence 3 and the Sequence 4 the following day. I went and saw Wonder Woman on Tuesday and spent the rest of the week playing co-op and heist missions with Shawn1991. I was mostly useless during this process as by that point I had barely any strength at all. On the opposite end Shawn1991 had already beaten the main story so was overpowered. I attempted to help by being stealthy, but the developers saw it necessary to stick a footman and a sniper in such a way to make sure there is no blind spots and stealth is nigh impossible. It's annoying. So, I was completely useless. We struggled through it until Friday, when we couldn't continue to the add-on missions because I hadn't started it. From that point and through Saturday I tried to get as much of the add-on and main game done. I got about halfway through the DLC and to Sequence 7 in the base game. I actually worked on the Dead Kings add-on first, and boy, was that a good idea! When I went back to the base game I was far stronger than any of the enemies I came across and it became a little more enjoyable. But, this has definitely been one of the more annoying Assassin's Creed games I've played. While Assassin's Creed III was dreadfully boring, at least it wasn't frustrating. Arno has a terrible tendency to jump on things you don't mean to more often than the others. It could also be that Paris is more densely packed and you're indoors more often. Regardless, yuck.

Hey look, more Minecraft achievements! Actually, as usual, both versions got new achievements but I decided to do this one first. I jumped into the tutorial to get the first few out of the way and made a new map using the seed "frost walker" to get the achievements involving the new forest mansion. It was all really easy, and Shawn1991 had the llama achievement ready to go for me, too. That leaves the one involving the Shulker, which is going to take some actual work.

I did Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition quickly after finishing the last one, though it took FAR longer. The trick I used to get the Frost Walker enchantment for the achievement didn't work as quickly as it did in the One version earlier in the day and took almost 2 hours. The rest were just as quick and again all I have left is the Shulker. I also have the llama one left, but Shawn1991 is setting it up. I figure he can do that since I've been the one to setup just about every update achievement.
